Chronicling Salvation of the Sages [Spoilers]

Spoiler:

Name: Kei, the Rubellite Sage
Race: Skinwalker
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Class: Death Druid 9
Description: A young man with tan skin, unkempt white hair and red eyes (most of the time). The one time tomb robber from Osirion had his life change when was bound to the restless spirits whose resting places he plundered. Blending the Druidic traditions of his people and his connection to the spirits, he began to seek out the haunted places of the world to put to rest the spirits that people like him helped to stir.

With him travels Zarisha al-Sahba, one of many spirits whose final business he's been cursed to see to. A cultist who died fruitlessly and now clings to the despair the mortal world brought them. The pair work well together, operating as investigators, infiltrators, and archaeologists for the Scarab Sages and the Pathfinder Society.

Scarab Sages 2/5

Name: Dunia Mbani, the Obsidian Sage
Race: Human-Looking Oread
Alignment: Lawful Good
Class: Ectoplasmatist 10
Description: Dunia is nominally an Oread, though she thinks of herself as a historian, an archaeologist, a shaman, a warrior-exorcist, and a Mulaa well before she dwells on where the touch of Earth in her blood came from.

Though she believes that there is useful knowledge to be found within all the peoples of the world, as evidenced by her particular combination of Chelish exorcisms with the more animistic spiritualism of her Mulaa upbringing, she believes that the lost wonders of Garund have been lost for too long, and has made them her primary focus. Her studies of the Sky Pyramids and Jistkani golems of old have led her far afield, however, and she has also spent a good deal of time studying the strange automata and artifacts that litter the land of Numeria to see what connections may lie between them.

Dunia is broadly built, but very short, barely cresting over 4 feet. She has dark brown skin, thick black hair, and remote black eyes. She would nearly look like a particularly squat Mwangi woman if it weren't for the obsidian sheen she gives when light hits her.

Her expression is usually sour, and she frequently tries to avoid speaking too freely with those she isn't familiar with, as her accent, a creole of Polyglot and Chelish Taldan, has frequently led to mockery or distrust in her travels. In the past this led her to frequently keep her own counsel, but over time she has grown weary of allowing fools to lead themselves into destruction. Though her words may rasp like sandpaper, she makes certain her counsel is heard.

Dark Archive 5/5

Name: Talathel, (Insert appropriate gem here) Sage
Race: Elf
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Class: Rogue 4/Investigator 3/Slayer 1
Description: Talathel is dressed in weatherbeaten clothing of sturdy make. He looks at home in the outdoors, his skin sun-kissed and his calloused hands bearing the marks of many adventures. Despite his garb and appearance, he spends a good portion of his time indoors, doing research and, when he is not on sabbatical, teaching. Talathel is a Fellow of Archaeology from Lepistadt University in Ustalav when he is not out exploring ruins for the Pathfinder Society. His over a century of life experience serves him well in both the field and the classroom. Of average height for an elf, and a little too thin from too many missed meals in the field, he keeps himself active and moving.

Finally:

Name: Yen Deyno Taishin
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Race: Human
Class: Draconic Bloodrager 9
Description: Deyno is a tall, powerfully built, tian male. He wears his crag linnorm hide breastplate proudly. He carries no weapons, just a few wands and scrolls that are placed in secured loops on his belt. His draconic heritage is given away by his eyes, a silvery blue mix. A family crest, of what appears to be a serpentine like dragon weaving through clouds, adorn his cloak.

Scarab Sages 1/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Name: Agraic Shieldarm, the Noqual Sage
Alignment: Neutral Good
Race: Half-elven
Class: Barbarian (Unchained) 10

Description: This weathered half-elf looks like he's been run over by the Cart of Life a half-dozen times, each time followed by it backing up to make sure that the job was well and done.

DESPITE that, he has a generally optimistic demeanor about him.

Over his shoulder rides an adamantine polearm

Spoiler:
horsechopper
of dubious construction, seemingly tied together with rope, glue, and cloth. His armor, in sharp and biting contrast to the worn and aged weapon and above noted occupant is the most brilliant of mithril plate armors, designed along ancient elven lines.

Complementing the armor on his right hip rides a silver tankard, lovingly crafted in stylings and wisdom of The Drunken Hero, and on his left is a dagger.

Introduction:
"Howdy! I'm'a 'graic. Wai' a sec', tha's a bi' so'." he pauses for a moment, pulling out a keg from his bag and setting it down on a stand, while pulling some mugs out for folks. "As I was sayin', I'm Agraic. Praise be t' th' Drunken Hero and if y' wan' some 'f this, feel free, it's my latest batch." He pauses to take a sip. "I'm th' Noqual Sage 'f the Scarab Sages, a genuine Ossirionoligister and Thassilonianist. No, I know those aren't words what most folks don't recognize-like, so I'll prune it back... I know history and not just in Ossirion. But 'nough 'bout myself, I hope y'all have been having a good time 'f it and if y'need my help wi' somethin', le' me know, a'ight?"

Background/story:
Agraic was found battered and bruised within a few inches of his life by parties unknown about five years ago by members of the Grand Lodge. To repay his debt, he signed on, and then had the fateful chance to travel to Ossirion, and meet possibly the MOST controversial member of the Pathfinder Society -- who was the first person to treat Agraic as a *person* and not an 'attitude with a stick'.

This prompted the Caydenite to start actually thinking of himself as smart, and if not educated, at least wise enough to ASK questions, and not be afraid to make mistakes. During the course of the missions to Ossirion he managed to briefly touch divinity, or as close to it as he imagines he'll ever be able to, and that solidly affirmed his resolve to be a Sage, should the means become available.

During the fight to reclaim the Sages, he died twice, and he bears no regret about the choices he made or what happened. He's hoping that he can be an example to the folks who focus on armaments at the cost of intellect that the choice doesn't have to be a permanent or lasting one.

Lantern Lodge

1 person marked this as a favorite.

So Jade is the only Stone which reallly relates to Tian, but someone already picked that. I'd like to point out that there's Jade in several shades. I'm just going to assume that by "jade", you all thought of a light green coloured gem, so instead of that preferred colour, I'll have to be the White Jade Sage then.

There are still Brown, Red, Black, Grey and Dark Green Jade available then ;)

Name: Grimm Bookworm, The White Jade Sage
Alignment: NeutLawful Good
Race: Gnome
Classes: Student of War 2/ Samurai 1/ (Unarmed) Fighter 1/ Monk (Master of Many Styles) 2/ Bard (Archivist) 2/ Universalist Wizard 1

Description:

SPOILER:
For a gnome, he has spend a dangerous amount of time with reading, which in turn drained all the colour of his hair, making it plain white, but adventures keep the Bleach from taking any colour out of his jade green eyes.
Grimm got the most out of his natural Intelligence in a unique way. Instead of just studying one field like magic, he studied in a multitude of fields all relating to one theme: Tian Xia. His fascinating with the far eastern continent made him study the Kirin martial arts style to perfection, as well as the way of the samurai, tianese cultures, languages, nature and monsters, all while spending loads of gold just to aquire a precious collection of tienese items, some magic, some mundane, and some even alive: He is often seen riding a young axe beak or talking to his spirit Oni familiar or the reforged magic sword Gamin, which is almost not recognizable in his now tienese Design (more of a Hwandodaedo than an avistani longsword).
Ever since he read books about Tian Xia, he was obsessed with it. As a pathfinder rookie, he aquired a Katana made of Jade for Venture Captain Amara Li, which turned out to be her family's legacy and a connection to The Way of the Kirin. Grimm then joined the Lantern Lodge and undertook expeditions to Tian Xia in order to establish contacts with the Way of the Kirin for the Pathfinder Society, as well as to help the Society aquiring the famous Hao jin Tapestry, which he is allowed to travel through and uses it as a gateway connecting Goka and Absalom, where he teaches as a professor of tienology.
After Amara Li changed the Lantern Lodge from a global Faction into a Tian department of the Pathfinder Society, Grimm even has to face a second faction retirement yet, as he chose to follow the knowledge preserving Scarab Sages. With them also retiring, Grimm thinks it a wise idea to work with the concordance faction from now on, since he is currently most interested in researching the Hao Jin Tapestry, which might be on the edge of destruction.

Scarab Sages 2/5

3 people marked this as a favorite.

Name: Sarsczek, the Iron Pyrite Sage
Alignment: Neutral
Race: Tiefling
Classes: Slayer 6 / Living Monolith 3
Description: Sarsczek is a bizarre monsterous looking Tiefling with a scaley scalp sporting a pair of ridges that appear to be horns which never penetrated the skin, a long thin tail, clawed hands and feat, and a somewhat disturbing fanged smile. He wears a long chain shirt, torn leather overshirt, tattered loincloth, and a thick rawhide belt. His head sports a pair of gemstones embedded into his scalp under the skin... although poking out enough to be visible and a bit unnerving. Around his neck hangs an amulet with a clawed sigil. Three spears are carried on his back, hooked to his backpack. His odd proportions change what should be a frightening creature into a comically mismatched physique, and his awkward demeanor does little to help. On first meeting most take Sarsczek to be a simpleton or idiot, but his frequent services as a survivalist throughout many an Osirion tomb have left him with knowledge forgotten to most.

"Hi Watts! Hi Newton! I get anovver rock to put in ma head! I wore my formal loincloth juss for the occasion!"

Scarab Sages

Spoiler:
Name: Montgomery Thorent, the Hematite Sage
Alignment: Lawful Neutral
Race: Dwarf
Class: Investigator 7 / Gunslinger 1
Description: Montgomery is a, usually, well-dressed Dwarf from Alkenstar. He is constantly tinkering with clockwork gadgets and if asked he generally refers to himself as an engineer. While a bit pedantic he is a font of knowledge to those willing to listen.

5/5

Name: Füine Curavar, the failed sage
Alignment: CN
Race: wayang
Classes: Wizard(Dvnr) 11
Description: Going in with 4 7th lvl pregens and 2 11th lvl PCs(Wiz & Pharasma Clr) we failed to rout the main BBEG at low tier, the 4 pregens died. A sad torch song ending to the Scarab Sages. Scenario challenge is out of tier at around APL+6.

FYI:
bloodrager died due to neg lvls, then Wiz created 6 cures, then final combat where Paladin smited & down by antiPal, Wiz goes to cure & EFSph. Amenopheus Dim Door into EFSph and proceeds to Fireball every round, can't fail a save{EarPrcScrm DC21}. So Pal dead after 3r as Wiz is healing and Wiz is taking no dmg from FB as hey, he's a blinking Wiz with protections. Inquisitor died due to Con loss and area of efct negative levels (had 2 neg lvls at start, 2 Cldkills). Barbarian kills antiPal then dies from Con loss(2 Cldkills). Wiz rolls out of EFSph gets Pharasma Clr and DimDoors out. Wiz 0 neg lvls, Clr 1 neg lvl.

Name: Pipsqueak Weaseltongue, the Phosphophyllite Sage
Alignment: Neutral Good
Race: Half-Orc
Classes: Alchemist 11
Description: Pipsqueak - or "Pip" as he introduces himself - had a rough start in life. Apprenticed to his tribe's Shaman in Tian Xia, he was sold into slavery as one of the few survivors of his village after it was wiped out. His knowledge of Alchemy earned him a spot as a drug concoctioner to a small time underworld thug who was eventually taken out by the Pathfinder Society. With his newfound freedom he joined the lantern lodge, where he went on many adventures including seeing the lantern lodge through to it's end (at least, outside of Tian Xia). He eventually turned his back on his witch heritage to pour even more of his focus into his alchemy, and slowly grew from a supporting good luck charm (and repository of endless knowledge) to a fearsome aerial warrior in his own right. With the support of a metamorphic familiar that often spends time in a monstrous form as his body guard, he went on to create a sage jewel - one looked down upon as exceedingly fragile and weak, just as the warriors of his village once though of him as.

Name: Tricho
Alignment: Lawfull Neutral
Race: Gripli
Class: Hellcat Monk lvl 11
Description: Tricho joined the society after they ran trough their village, chased by a T-rex. Intrigued by these tall people, Tricho traveled to absalom with them.

Altough only 2,5 feet tall, Tricho knows how to fight, very well. They like being friends with everyone and although they dont have an aptitude for it, learning new things, seeing new sights.
People that havent met Tricho before always have to get a little bit used to Tricho. Small, no clothes except for a little cape and a robe. And then all that weird sticking to walls... But Tricho's upbeat personality always wins them over.

Tricho voted for Amenopheus, who had always treated them fairly. And, to their shame, the vote was also a bit tinted by racial predjudice. After all, big lizards are known to eat frogs. And being eated is one of Tricho's biggest fears.

Name: Natalie Corvellan
Preferred Jewel: Voidglass
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Race: Half-Elf
Class: Witch (bonded) 9

Description:

Description:

Natalie is one of the surviving members of the Corvellan family of Westcrown, who were nearly wiped out by a rival noble house. She lived on the streets for years before managing to put together enough money to flee to Absalom.

The result of her Chelish mother's indiscretion while on a trip to Varisia, Natalie has her father's brilliant green eyes and her mother's auburn hair. She carries on the family worship of Sivanah, who kept her safe and hidden growing up. She wears a belt of seven knotted scarves and seven rings, switching which finger carries her bonded ring as she fidgets with them.

While life as a thief taught her the value of subtlety and moving in the shadows, Natalie lacks patience for schemes. She prefers to think on her feet, adapting to the situation at hand rather than creating some complex plan. She's always friendly and cheery, regardless of her actual mood, though she falls back into Wescrani slang when she's nervous. She realizes her magic through numerology and sequences, and the constant examination of these patterns has left her with odd patter and mannerisms, with frequent repetition.

Natalie is fascinated with ancient cultures and the achievements of humanity during the Age of Destiny. She believes in reclaiming the lost history of the world and is obsessed with collecting secrets. She only really shares them with faction members, doling out need to know to other Pathfinders, and hanging onto a few precious ones just for herself.

"There was no indication at the time of ascension to being a Sage of the necessity of having a unique gem. In fact, given the relative lack of infinite variety, it should be considered more likely that there will be duplication. Such duplication more than likely happened at earlier times, as well. That being said, this discussion is rather counter-productive to the good keepings of being a family. Let us all have libation together in our way that we may grow closer. I happen to have a nice country ale that I have been refining the past few months that I think would fit the bill quite nicely. Would anyone care to partake?"

Name: Lichaam Pisell the Risen, the Apatite Sage
Alignment: Neutral Good
Race: Elf
Class: Scroll Scholar Wizard 6 / Cyphermage 6

Lichaam is driven by a need to know EVERYTHING. If you know WHAT happened, you can know WHY, and make it not happen again. Plus, who in their right mind wouldn't find the Unabridged History of Gourd Farming in Cheliax interesting? Surprisingly, the Society seems filled with people who don't quite share his love for the scholarly arts. As such, he's often the one sent in to tell the barbarian why they shouldn't break down that door just yet. He appears to be dressed in whatever clothing the merchant had that day - which isn't far from the truth. His Handy Haversack is stuffed to the brim with the written (and sometimes magical) word, forcing him to strap a large sack with his other gear to the outside.

Lichaam has been with the Scarab Sages since before they split from Osirion, and undertook nearly every mission concerning them. He was on the team that found the lost sanctum, the team that halted the destruction of the archives, and the team that found the Amethyst Sage. Following his actions underneath Resa, he leapt at the chance to join their august ranks. However, thanks to a hungry giant and his habit of trading favors for magic items, he found himself rather short on prestige. Thankfully, the Society saw fit to send him against some very dangerous threats last week, allowing him to expand his contributions to the Sages' body of knowledge.

So many seasons with no worthwhile spontaneous uses for prestige other than Raise Dead led to spending the extra on wands and scrolls. He had plenty for coming back from the dead, so no reason not to, right? Then this comes along with a high prestige cost only a few scenarios after Lichaam died (draining his prestige.) Quite frustrating, and I'm glad I got enough Seeker-level content in at GenCon to purchase it.

Yeah, but here we are... Instead of calling people out as "pretenders," could have just marked it as having two sages. Realizing that someone might not have seen it listed. Words have effects, and being called out isn't any fun, even if "tongue-in-cheek." Makes a player's choices feel discredited a little bit.
