Mr. Fighter steal your weapon

Advice

Ok so I have this idea of a fighter style character that doesn't carry weapons of his own and instead just takes his opponents and or uses the environment around him. He is also dumb as rocks story wise. This campaign has very few magic items in existence (insert story hook here. Magic is dying) so this is what i came up with as a character. Which is a concept that tends to not be viable in other campaigns. We start at lvl 8 so what recommendations do yall have? Besides the improvised weapon tree.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Do you have a reason to think that the campaign will feature lots of humanoid enemies? It's hard to disarm a dragon...
This guy uses the environment.

Yeah a lot much of the magic is gone from the world as are most of the magical creatures.

Also the dm is really good about building the environment and tends to reward is for using it. Which is why I'm building this kind of character. For instance a dragons hoard would have things like fancy chairs, paintings, statutes, ect. So you know beat the dragon with its own hoard.

I would recommend a brawler. You get Improved Unarmed Strike for free, which is important so that you don't take the -4 on the disarm check for being unarmed. Then if they have a fancy weapon, you can use your Martial Flexibility to gain proficiency on the fly.

Yeah I was thinking that or the martial master fighter and taking improved unarmed strike

IUS Will also help in cases where an opponent cannot be disarmed or doesn't rely on a weapon.

Just a brawler dip and the feat barroom brawler of extra martial flexibility should be sufficient. Then just go the rest as a fighter.

Grand Lodge

A dip into Swashbuckler or Slayer gets you access to the Kick Up feat...

I don't think ill need the kick up feat because you can just pickup a weapon you disarm as a free action if you are not holding something. So I think ill just one dip into brawler and then go martial master fighter the rest of the way

That thread always makes me smile.

The Steal combat maneuver might not be terrible, either. Take the weapon they have sheathed and whack them with it.

Steal is also a great debuff as you remove their head bands, belts, amulets, etc.

Quick Steal lets you make Steal attempts as part of a full attack.

That sounds fun....

Ok so here is my overall base build of my character: Human brawler 1/ Gladiator master martial fighter 7

STR:18
DEX:14
CON:14
INT:9
WIS:11
CHA:12

Feats: race: catch off guard
Lvl 1 power attack
Class bonus 1brawler: IUS
Lvl 2 combat expertise.
Lvl 3 improved steal
Lvl 3 clb fighter1: improved disarm
Lvl 5 cleave
Lvl 5 clb performance weapon mastery (dodge would be better but flavor)
Lvl 7 quick steal
Lvl 7 clb greater disarm (greater steal I can use class abalites to unlock for certain situations.)

The idea is that I would have access to most feat trees at any given point and capitalise on when best to need and use them this way if I feel I need something I can pull it off when necessary and can just focus on the rp of the character.

I'm leaning towards a fighter that was forced to do battle in an arena after a drunken night at a bar and posses off the wrong person. And through many battles he learned how to mimic those he faught. He also had to fight without the use of weapons in many of the battles in the arena. Eventually he earned his freedom but not before that became his fighting style. "Why do I need to carry a weapon when my opponents always supplies me one" and "if you don't have a weapon make one or take one either way works for me"

The only thing my character is missing is arcane strike feat. Any idea on how to pick that up without another lvl dip and still be human?

The closest might be Caster's Champion. Be within 30 feet of an allied arcane caster (could technically be level 1), get the benefit of Arcane Strike, but only 3 rounds per day.

That works

There is specific disarm build with hunter or sacred huntsmaster where you stack so many modifiers against yourself you intentionally fail the disarm.

However with improved disarm partner and paired opportunist you trigger both an AOO from your pet (who can make an attack at full BAB) and yourself (who makes another disarm attempt that is doomed to fail).

The idea is that essentially your pet attacks for 1+combat reflexes amount of times each turn and every attack is at full bab because the combat reflexes.

the basic build is here...

the build can come online at level 8. I would do away weapon finesse, dervish dance and piranha strike, and invest in two weapon fighting, two weapon defense and weapon trick arm bind and attack with arrows from a quiver (improvised weapons when used in melee). If you go weapon trick arm bind you can even attempt and fail disarm against monsters and spellcaster that don't hold weapons so you can do this in every situation. If you ever get separated from your pet you are truly and completely useless though (except for the hunter, inquisitor spellcasting that is).

You can definitely play this like the character is utterly useless but still be very effective because will do the killing.
