a demon create a baby, a baby demon who born in middle of forest.

however the baby prophesied to bring the end of universe. you happened to be there. tasked to kill the baby.

what are you gonna do ?

kill baby to save the world. or save the baby.

well that entirely depends on what character i'm playing, if it was my most favorite character i've ever played in pathfinder i would keep the baby raise it and destroy the universe together then rebuild it to my liking

depends, am I a paladin of Ragathiel? in that case there's not even a dilemma.

You started a "should you murder the baby" thread. Those never go well.

I don't see this thread going well.

1) Don't worry about the prophecy - those don't work anymore in Golarion and related environs

2) Worry about the jerk fanatics that are going to take it upon themselves to force the prophecy to come to pass; smite them.

3) Turn the demon into a useful power source and/or fertilizer; smite it.

4) Take the baby, and turn it over to the (G/g)od(s) or similar (i.e. summon an angel or whatever, and hand it over with an explanation of the situation).

5) If it all goes wrong, just evacuate everyone to a different universe, and/or (depending on the specificity/nature of the prophecy) ship baby off to another universe (and, if the baby will destroy that one, make sure it's an evil one, and it is locked into place there; be sure to get your timing right!).

I mean, come on, guys, this isn't that hard.

;D

I'm aware that this is a generic hypothetical, and the actual question is one of "moral calculus" (weirdly, Wikipedia only seems to have ethical calculus and moral relativism - the two concepts necessary to create the concept of moral calculus), that is, "Which is the lesser of two evils, and are either of these non-evil?" but the framing is pretty... rocky. The ultimate problem, of course, is that you're forced to choose between hypothetical "innocents." And that is what will never really work out well.

I don't know about for greater good, but for great justice: take off every zig.

The problem with these kinds of prophecies is that they tend to be self-fulfilling; for example, what we don't know is that the baby is the lynchpin of existence and killing it is what actually destroys the universe. That sort of thing.

It is not moral to murder a baby for what it might do in the future.

This is the plot of the original Divinity games, although the baby didn't look like a demon. It didn't end well.

Yawn this is an old one. Put a twist on it and say a person is stuck in a deja vu situation where they wake up every single day a clean slate and are faced with the same dilemma. Do they always take the same action? hmm?

Only one good answer.
Toss the GM into a closet and the rest of you go out for dinner and a movie, or live music if you can find it.

thanks for some data.

It's real-world me? Then this isn't a role playing question or a game world question. This is in the wrong forum, at the very least and may be on the wrong site.

Considering a baby is not likely to put up much of a fight, if the person doing the baby-murder is not the person with the most conviction that this needs to be done, then I'm suspicious.

Neither of those options precludes the other, in fact they kind of go well together.

C'mon! The end times are fun!... For me.

Is the baby, like, really evil, or are you just, y'know, like, having a freak out? Because, like, sometimes things look all evil but then they're not once you give it time. Like this one time Mrs. Butterworth looked all like she was going to narc on me, and then I rubbed my eyes and she was back to sexy.

What was the question?

3 people marked this as a favorite.

That which is done in diapers is beyond good and evil.

Do you know what happens to a universe that gets struck by babies?
The same thing that happens to everything else.

I had initially read the display name of the previous poster as "Baby Swarm" and thought "that's a really cruel thing to set against level 1 adventurers."

To baby, or not to baby,
That is the dinner question...

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I'd ride around the baby on my BMX, kicking up lots of dirt and distracting it with BMX tricks until the universe was safe.

Thou shalt not make a baby in the likeness of a moral hypothetical.

It's a trick question. The baby is both alive and dead.

Can the baby kill an ancient red dragon with his cane?

Didn't think so!

grabs the shotgun sitting next to his rocking chair.

Now, get off my lawn!!!

Perhaps the baby is merely a projection of his own feelings toward my mother.

She's still expecting a call, by the way.

You got the wrong baby. The universe ending baby is two dungeons over, this is the baby destined to overthrow Bavmorda.

Yo this ethics is sick
with its hypothetical shtick
answer it quick
while the clock tick ticks
and you think maybe
you should save the baby
or is it kill it dead
I'm out of my head
ah screw this thread,
Imma watch Montel instead.

Hang on, I've seen this one. Eventually they just murder Joxer and go back to sleep.
