Do my Animal Companion need "Share Healing" feats?

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I am a Cleric with Animal Domain.

And I want to use this feat, but it seems that my companion doesn't meet the prerequisite.

Do this teamwork feat still work if only me use this feat, or my companion could just ignore that prerequisite use the feat?

thx

As written, yes your animal companion needs the feat. However as far as I know, no normal animal companion, eidolon, familiar, or special mount can meet the prerequisites, so can't take the feat. Meaning as written, the feat doesn't work in most cases.

You would need to be a hunter (or have a similiar ability from somewhere else) to give the feat to your companion.

Hunter Tactics (Ex): At 3rd level, the hunter automatically grants her teamwork feats to her animal companion. The companion doesn't need to meet the prerequisites of these teamwork feats.

the feat seems poorly written

Silver Crusade

No, it doesn't. It is poorly written. As is, you need to be either a hunter or multiclass just to use it, and a feat tax for the privilege.

There are a large number of feats that are targeted at certain classes or options, it does not make them 'poorly written'.

There are,

if you search,

ways around such limitations

Silver Crusade

So your solution to the feat tax is an item that costs no less than one quarter of your wealth for roughly half the character's life? Especially for a feat that "supposedly" can be taken by any class with a companion.

Why on earth have you assumed it is designed to be taken by any class with a companion when it quite clearly hasn't?

And what is the 'tax' here exactly?

Silver Crusade

Because it has the prerequisite of ability to gain an eidolon, familiar, animal companion, or mount. You know, every form of companion class except spiritualist, which wasn't out yet. And the tax is having to spend either two feats or 11,000 gp to use the one feat.

The fact that Share Healing comes from the Advanced Class Guide does make me thing it was written with the Hunter in mind.

In mind, maybe, but it was written so any companion class can take it.

5 people marked this as FAQ candidate.

Perhaps the feat can be fixed simply by removing the teamwork feature.

It's already a general feat. And such feats have been known to add or subtract classifications in other FAQ

I'll press the FAQ on this statement.

"Because the prerequisite of Shared Healing can not be taken by most companions, would it not be better to remove the Teamwork classification of the feat?"

It is not the only feat designed for the Hunter.
The wording however leaves it open for future archetypes of other classes.

gang up does that better and can also apply to any other people in your party that take it so that feat is pointless

Not pointless to a hunter as it does was gang up does only the pet gets it too with no expenditure.
