Changes to Dominate Person

Dominate Person now requires not only an attack roll to hit before a Will save needs to be made, but it also has a visual effect of being a purple ray.

Any ideas on why these changes were implemented? Was Dominate Person being abused? The visual effect is a particularly blah change to me, as it really takes a lot of the subtlety of mind control away. :'(

Well, it makes taking them over not subtle...but it never was really. Them being under mind control is still as subtle as it ever was.

Yeah, Dominate Person was never the spell for subtle control. It was the spell for making a person jump off the top tower and die. I imagine its part of a general trend towards nerfing spells that skip straight to defeat- if a spell or power basically ends a fight in one move, it should have more defense standing against it then just one unlucky roll.
