We're in Ocala, so no longer the exact eye projection, anymore, though we're pretty close. Here's hoping those further out don't suffer too much from this shift!

Sharoth, Ray, Kelanan, markofbane, havoc, Amby, and all else: we're praying for you! Peace! Stay safe!

Also, this does seem like a good time to play a Thor-themed game or maybe Skull & Shackles... >.>

Also, Sharoth, you're not too far from my sister and her family! W00t~!

Wait, Odraude is in Florida, isn't he?

Has anyone heard from him?

Last post was in August, so... I've not... :/

At the very least, when this thing is all over we should all be more able to find gaming groups, yes? I didn't realize how many folks were this close to me.

PFS but they're everywhere

I know the losses are real and probably tough to deal with, but it's kind of hard to hear somebody describe how sad it is that yachts were swept away and a sailboat has a broken mast, when so many other people have lost everything - homes, possessions, memories.

Hang in there, Floridians.

On mobile, so keeping it brief. Neighbor tree fell at 2:15PM, took out power and blocking road completely. Southern eyewall started passing overhead around half-hour ago-ish. All ok otherwise, although backyard water is about to come over door threshhold. Our cat anxious but ok, adopted stray is freaked-out bitey.

Hope everyone stays ok. Try to check in tomorrow.

Stay safe, Amby.

Just found out my 96-year-old Aunt in Tampa was told to shelter-in-place, and that the firemen would come get her if she needed help. I had assumed my cousins would have come and taken her out of there. Can't understand why they didn't. Unless she's being stubborn.

Hadn't heard about this until just now: Airbnb hosts offer free or $1/night places to stay ranging from 6th Sept to 28th Sept depending on the host. Could come in handy for those traveling to provide assistance once Irma's done.

Quarter-after-nine in Sarasota and our hotel still has power. A couple of my gaming buddies have lost power, maybe all of them (who didn't leave). Everything seems okay. Wind and rain not so bad. About another couple hours before the Eye sees us.

One of my buddies texted me and said I can use her B-day reroll -- today is her birthday and we're all bummed that we aren't Gaming right now. She lost power at her house in Bradenton three hours ago.

It's an opposed roll...

It sounds like my family in Fort Myers made it through okay so far. No one was hurt. All of their cars were damaged, one of which is probably totaled. Now we are waiting to see if the storm surge comes in tonight or tomorrow morning.

I'm glad it seems to be losing some intensity as it goes north.

All clear at the hotel on I-75 on the Sarasota/ Manatee County line. We didn't even lose power here.

There's a curfew in effect till 3 so I don't know how my house is yet. I know power is out there. I'm gonna stay at the hotel till tomorrow; watch my beloved Vikings here tonight.

But everything *looks* okay from here.

Hopefully that '9' I rolled was enough for us to only have taken partial damage.

One sad casualty: I was downstairs getting some breakfast a few minutes ago when a very elderly couple who had evacuated was having problems at their table. The gentleman was in a wheelchair and he spilled coffee on the table and floor. While several of us came to help (Coffee is hot!), his wife was upset, unfortunately their pet dog passed away last night.

Glad all ok except couple's poor dog.

Parents and sister's houses ok, except minor leak in her enclosed porch roof. Trees down all over neighborhood. Several power poles snapped off at tops, so power outlook is terrible. Brother's house lost poolcage, part of back roof, and partially flooded.

Our cat normal, but adopted stray won't give up his pink blanket or chair except briefly to eat or potty. Poor kitty.

The eye has passed us by!

We don't have power, or (as a result) cell coverage, but we are fine so far! While we have a few more hours until we are in the all-clear, I wanted to update folks. Figured it was a better use of time than the sleep I wasn't getting anyway! (I mean, have you ever tried keeping a six and two year old in a closet with you for sixteen hours? Woof!)

:D

We are good I guess....just a little rain seems it's dropped to a tropical storm. Take that Irma!!

It looks like another typical case of a single BBEG being overwhelmed in one round by a group of PCs. We won easily, it looks like -- now we just need to get out our Happy Sticks and heal everyone up from the few HP they lost. And let's keep our eye out for the few that need us to quickly cast Breath of Life. I've heard of a few homes with trees on them, one small, local business with no roof, and of course there are still a few hundred thousand with no electricity around here. I won't find out how many charges from the CLW I'll need until tomorrow when I go home.

Oh my gosh. Yes, but not for that long! My condolences, congratulations, and good job!

And all of those sentiments for getting through Irma, also. :)

Love you all, and I'm glad we're getting through this! I checked in with all of our neighbors, and have a good report for 8/9 - and the 9th one didn't answer and has no visible car, so they might have gotten out of town, or just be asleep. The largest visible damage is a small section of our neighbor's fence!

Overall: good news!

I'm praying for all of you, and am glad to hear the mostly good reports, and empathizing with the losses others have suffered.

I was really worried, but my friends there report some minor damage and the power's out, so I'm relieved. Not a big death toll, as I feared.

I hope the manatees, pigmy deer and the mangroves survived.

Hang in there, guys.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

The manatees had a better chance of surviving at this time of year than they would have in winter, when most of the population (such as it is) would be huddled in the bays.

The key deer are holding fast, a herd was seen today, alive and well!

Another friend who left and returned reports no damage to his house, though the power is still out.

I'll take it.

I read 'power' as 'superpower' and wondered if maybe waterbenders were affected by hurricanes the way firebenders are by eclipses.

I need to spend more time in the real world.

I once had a semi automatic rifle pointed at me and started planning my response in combat rounds.

Had a shotgun pointed at me once, took exactly one action in the combat round, the withdraw action! ;)

I had a crazy old lady that lived in her car shoot at me and my friends when one of them jumped on top of her car.

Once I was in a car - backseat - with my parents when we came across two dudes with guns beating a dude on the ground. My dad pulled up, rolled down his window, and yelled at the guys. "You stop that! You stop that right now! You should be ashamed of yourselves! Now get out of here!" And those guys looked so chagrined, and shamed, and walked, sad, aback to their car. The other dude rose to a standing position and looked at my dad like my dad was going to gun him down, prepping for a fight, as if dad was going to unbuckle his seatbelt, jump over to him, and start the beat down again. His girlfriend Rajput to him, and he shielded her. Dad told him, "Now you get yourself to a hospital, right now! And get out of this neighborhood! And clean up your life!" The guy was shocked, and, eventually, nodded a quickly muttered, "Yessir" before jogging off to his car with his girlfriend. They drove off in the direction of the hospital.

After all that, my dad turned to us and said, "Boy, I sure am glad they didn't realize I was just a little old man who was completely unarmed! That could have been bad!" and drove us the rest of the way home - all 500 feet or so.

Mom and I just sat in stunned awe of dad's chutzpah, and cavalier attitude about the whole thing.

It's worth noting that all three of those guys ended up in my dad's church (though they sat on opposite sides). Heh.

And that describes the one and only time we've ever run into gang violence in my parents' Florida neighborhood. XD

(It seemed, incidentally, fairly clearly like gang violence, as, while they were all shirtless, one set of guys had similar looking rags (one on the head and one in the pocket) and the other one had a different color - plus, of course, the rather stereotypical "gang" style they all were sharing their stuff in. We've not actually seen gangs around there before or since. Probably has something to do with the police officer moving in. There are gangs in other places, but apparently not in that neighborhood anymore!)

Oh, more on topic: power or partial power has been restored to much of Ocala (though still not us). Huzzah! Eldest is going to school tomorrow (if we can get there without going through ras sewage)! Yay!

The po-po and the chutzpah-laden old man talking to 'em like ... well, a dad/father figure. :D

Take care that the First World does not catch this unnamed Eldest :-)

I bet they are one of those apparently missing Good Eldest ;-)

HOLY CARP, HOW'S THAT FOR AWESOME?!

Just got home from dropping Eldest off at school and WE HAVE POWER~!!

Yay for us!

There are still quite a few that do not - lets continue to keep them in prayer - especially be sick or hurt!

Well I'm still at the hotel, no power at my house. I'm gonna start asking various buddies if I can stay with them if I don't get power back on today some time. The only thing we lost was the washer & dryer -- some water damage in the laundry room. And four days in this hotel is gonna have to do it.
