My friend Jerry has been in the hospital the last 4 months and passed away this morning. He has been my friend and gaming partner since 1988. He was a loud, brash, and kind person who had done much to change his life around in the last few years. He also had a catch phrase that he used when he played his DC Heroes character so long ago, so Speed of the Bunny, Jerry. Speed of the Bunny.

To Jerry,

I don't know you, nor you I.
Now you game in Heaven on high.
Loved ones lost you shall meet once more.
Others you'll greet at sainted door.

Fare thee well. o7

It's okay, Cal. It was bound to happen, sooner or later. I'm still a wreck, aren't I?

I wouldn't say a wreck, but you do still grieve for him. My dad has been gone 32 years and my 15 and I still occasionally reach for the phone to call them before I remember they've passed on.

So you're ok. Just still deeply saddened.

Cal, just got the PM - I'm so sorry to hear. I know how painful it can be to have lost a friend. Please feel free to contact or talk to me as you need - we care about and are thankful for your presence here, and I will keep you, his and your families, and all of your mutual friends in prayer. Peace and even joy in this sad, painful time.

Speed of the Bunny, Jerry, and God bless you and yours. And you, Cal.

And to all of us experiencing, living with, or suffering from loss: your emotions and your emotional journey is your own. So long as you aren't destructive (self- or otherwise), there is no real wrong way to mourn - even if it doesn't feel like mourning or like the right emotion, even if it's so fierce it doesn't seem possible to know where to go, even if you don't know if you feel anything, even if you feel exhausted or relieved, even if you feel anything - so long as it doesn't lead you to a path of destructive behavior, you are experiencing something normal. Peace to you, and find joy in the good times; were they few, find joy in the now and the way things can be good in the future.

You are good and are loved. And your journey is the correct one.

Cal,
I will hurry up and feed my kids sugar and caffeine, and have them do something constructive and wise, in the hopes of adding another annal to "Funny %&%*$$ My Kid Says" to try to brighten an otherwise-dark day...

...or just cattle prods. That usually works.

In more formal and dignified terms, I'm sorry for your loss.

Thank you. And cattle prods are never a bad idea... LOL

Aye, like DQ said, sorry to hear about Jerry passing away, my sincere condolences to you, Jerry's family, and those close to him.

I too shall raise a toast with "Speed of the Bunny"

Go easy Jerry, may you roll naught but 20's at that big table in the aether. Hope ol' Gary G. is ready for a true Pathfinder.

These may not be my own words, but let them be said, for Jerry.

Return this man to Huma's breast
Beyond the wild, impartial skies;
Grant to him a warrior's rest
And set the last spark of his eyes
Free from the smothering clouds of wars
Upon the torches of the stars.
Let the last surge of his breath
Take refuge in the cradling air
Above the dreams of ravens where
Only the hawk remembers death.
Then let his shade to Huma rise
Beyond the wild, impartial skies.

Your words or not, they are wonderful. Thank you.
