1 Melee Druid: Hold the Wild-Shape and Animal Companion

Advice

Trying to help a friend with a Druid build, focused on self buffing and weapon melee combat. He'll be using Nature Fang Archetype, and a Greatclub. No nedd for proficiencyt: the DM has housruled that Druids DON'T get scimitars but get Greatclubs instead. Which, yeah. I get that. So basically looking for good spells and feats and talents and the best domain for such a build. Probably a Dwarf for race. Thanks everyone. I appreciate it.

Bump

For wielding a greatclub and no Wildshape, I would consider Urban Druid with the Nobility Domain to get spontaneous Divine Favor and at-will Alter Self (so permanent +2STR, basically). Divine Favor, Fate's Favored and an easy +2STR are much stronger than Study, and wielding a greatclub doesn't require Slayer Talent Ranger feats.

If going Nature Fang, the Wolf Domain offers a very interesting option - you can use Preferred Spell on Aspect of the Wolf to make it a spontaneous level 3 spell, and Aspect of the Wolf is an awesome spell for a non-Wildshape Druid. With Greater Trip, it's seriously lethal.

Have you considered the Goliath Druid archetype?

It's not wildshape, but it kind of is. You're turning into giants (mostly).

@BadBird
Urban Druid sounds pretty dang good. The fairly intense delayed Wild Shape helps sell it.

Also the Nature Fang advice is very nice. Thanks.

@Claxon
Since Giants are humanoids, that Wild Shape might be okay with him... I'll have to find out. Thanks for the recommendation.

Is the Drovier at all good for this situation?

Have you considered a Samsaran with Mystic Past Life? :)

Incidentally, if unique magic items (especially with Craft Magic Arms and Armor) are a possibility, then I would take a very hard look at the Beaststrike Club. Besides the coolness factor and the Wildshape size-bonus, the fact that it counts as a natural weapon means that you can apply Frostbite through it (like Quickened Frostbite as a level 4 swift action spell with a metamagic trait), which substantially amps-up the damage on what's already a two-handed large club.
