New Option: Ship Type special abilities

Hi,
I already build some ships for fun and also as "NPCs" for my campaign.
What bothered me was that the hulls do not really reflect the cause of the ship (e.g. you can build an "Explorer" based on a Freighter Frame).

So I ask myself if the frames should have special qualities which define and support their role.

Let me explain by some examples which come to my mind:

Freighter - every unused expansion bay Count as 1.5 Cargo holds
Explorer - if a science lab is equiped at +2 to all scan rolls and increase the range by 5 fields
Destroyer - When aiming at ships of small size or smaller, add +2 to the attack roll
Heavy Freighter - as Freighter plus: you can attach up to Tier/2 additional Cargo holds to the hull. If you use this Option reduce Speed by 1 and Maneuverability to poor. The additional Cargo pods can be dropped in battle if needed (increase the Speed and maneuverability again).

What do you guys think, would this be a good idea? Or will it make the starship rules to complicated/imbalanced?

Did some Brainstorming and came up with this qualities:

Racer - Thruster PCU reduced by 25%
Interceptor - can increase speed by 4 (only once per combat)
Fighter - NO IDEA
Shuttle - Passenger Seating increased to 20 persons
Light Freighter - Cargo Hold capacity +50%
Explorer - if a science lab is equipped at +2 to all scan rolls and increase the range by 5 fields
Transporter - Can mount up to 4 external anti-personal weapons for free
Destroyer - +2 attack vs. small and tiny spaceships
Hvy. Freighter - like Light Freighter plus: can add up to 0.5x Tier Cargo Holds on the outside. This reduce speed by 1 and Maneuverability by one step. Extra Cargo Hold can be dumped in combat (Pilot Action)
Bulk Freighter - like Freighter except can add up to 1x Tier Cargo Holds
Cruiser - +1 Attack for deployed tracking weapons
Carrier - Hangar Bays can hold up to 10 tiny ships
Battleship - Attack +1 vs. Huge or larger ships
Dreadnought - NO IDEA

New Frames
Bomber - small - PCU use -5 for tracking weapons (min 5 PCU)
Heavy Explorer - Huge - if a science lab is equipped at +2 to all scan rolls and increase the range by 5 fields
