Soldier Gunslinger Fighting Style

6 people marked this as a favorite.

I was kind of surprised that there was no soldier fighting style that emphasized fighting with small arms. So I decided to make one. No promises on how balanced it is, though.

Gunslinger
The gunslinger fighting style emphasizes making devastating shots up close using small weapons. It is favored by some law enforcement agencies, who find that carrying around giant guns tends to escalate situations quickly. It is also a favorite of unsavory characters who find it easier to hide pistols than rifles on their bodies.

Pistolero (1st Level)
You gain a +1 bonus to damage with small arms. This bonus increases to +2 at level 3, and increases by +1 every 2 soldier levels to a maximum of +10 at Soldier level 19.

Ready for Trouble (5th Level)
You gain a +4 bonus to initiative. This bonus does not stack with any other initiative bonuses that you gain from Soldier Fighting Styles. You also gain Quick Draw as a bonus feat. If you already have this feat, choose a bonus combat feat instead. You can draw 2 small arms using a quick action, or 2 hidden weapons as a move action.

Up Close and Personal (9th Level)
Whenever you make a ranged attack with a small arm against an adjacent enemy, you gain a +2 Insight bonus to your AC against that enemy’s attacks until the start of your next turn.

Impeccable Aim (13th Level)
When you hit an opponent with an attack you make using a small arm, you can spend 2 resolve points as a free action to trigger your weapon’s critical hit effect. This doesn’t make the trigger attack a critical hit.

Time Stands Still (17th Level)
When you make a full attack entirely with small arms, you can make 4 attacks with a -6 penalty.

My friend is doing this in our campaign but instead of soldier he went operative. Operatives get uncanny shooter and trick attack works with small arms. Not to mention the 4 attacks he will eventually get but at lvl 14.

I think this is pretty pretty cool. Pick up hit an run for the second fighting style so at level 13 you can move and full attack in the same round. At level 20 you'll be able to put out 4 attacks and move with more accuracy than an equal level operative. Plus bullet barrage gives you even more damage. I like it. Need to crunch numbers to see how balances it is but first impressions seem good.
