*cough* I know I'm over a year late, but. . .

The perfectly valid reason to ask whether someone is a GM or not, is because a GM has the power to implement their house rule ideas over their players. As such, the actual practical effects on player enjoyment and efficiency become much more important than for pure theorycraft. Implicitly the question the original post asks transforms from "What do you think about this rules change?" to "What do you think about this rules change that I am going to apply to my players?"

Or basically, an idea that is bad in the abstract is simply bad. It gains a new gravity if there is the prospect of it actually being inflicted on other people.
