Gains spell resistance

The fiendish template give me this:
gains spell resistance equal to new CR +5.

My CR is 3

Is this spell resistance up and above my resistance i allready have, or if it is allready 14, does it stay 14. Or even worse, does it become 3 + 5 = 8.

Overlaps, not stacks. You'd have SR 14. If the thing granting you SR 14 was somehow disabled, you'd still have SR 8 (unless it was also disabled).
