I'm just wondering because it's been a while now since they came out, although I admit I don't know for sure how long the process normally takes.

I think we've been told that it'll be posted before GenCon.

If I was going to hazard a guess I would say the day before the con.

Scarab Sages

The official stance from John Compton has been that it is something they are working on for release before GenCon.

So sometime before August 17th. It's been just over three months since the last update as it is though.

It would be really great if they got it out... oh, now-ish, though. I'd guess more than a few characters will level up during GenCon, and having that preplanned is really helpful. To say nothing of the rebuilds that the Adventurer's Guide might necessitate.

Seriously, though, going on 95 days and counting.

GenCon is less than two weeks away.

They still have to get some scenarios ready for Prime Time and get the Guide ready (if they're still set on having it ready for GenCon).

While I'm optimistic, I'm also rather doubtful given the amount of logistics involved (based on personal experience in a few other campaigns).

I really hope that the huge gap we've had between the last couple of updates is just an exception because of so much going on (particularly Starfinder) and doesn't become the new norm.

I feel like I've been waiting forever to use content I was excited about.

The one back on January 28 was 81 days after the last update. Then 95 days so far since the one in April, and I don't think there was one between the two. If there was, it was a small one for Healer's Handbook (since Psychic Anthology was newly-added in the April update.) This isn't just a GenCon thing.

I've also got stuff that I'd really like to see legalized (but I'm not expecting it.) If my Lore Warden survives the nerf bat, he'd love a Versatile Design cestus and shortspear for GenCon.

It's definitely a Gencon thing given that one scenario sites an currently illegal archetype and another cites the next campaign clarification.

That doesn't necessarily follow. It doesn't have to be GenCon delaying THIS update. All we know is that this update IS delayed, as have been the last two updates (which were far enough back to not be majorly impacted by GenCon.)

Regardless of whether GenCon is playing a part in slowing this particular update, there's now an established pattern of waiting ~3 months between updates. THAT isn't GenCon.

I suspect that PaizoCon also contributed to this one. May-September is a pretty busy time for the Paizo folks. The other big question is how much the volume of material at this stage of the game impacts these decisions. There's a lot of Pathfinder stuff out there now and making sure to identify game-breaking corner cases can be pretty difficult.

It's not just the waiting 95 days+ since the last update. It's also that a new hardcover was released that impacts a number of players current characters. The sooner the AR update is released the sooner players can make the needed rebuilds and adjustments to characters. It sucks going to a Con and having to make changes to a character the night before.

For me, the Adventurers Guide has some Archtypes and Prestige Classes I'm dying to try out (Blossoming Light Cleric, Halcyon Druid, Sanguine Angel).

Have we ever had to wait this long for an AR update after a new hardcover has been released?

Honestly, I don't think so. I've been wondering for a few weeks now if the AR update would come after the next hardcover. >.>

We've been given word that the AR for Adventurer's Guide was ready in early July, and they were "adding a few other resources before posting it." Legacy of the First World was released a couple weeks before the hardcover, and AA2 a couple weeks after. It's been 3 weeks since then.

Great item, to be sure...I just hope they at least gave a head-nod to the person who came up with the idea for the last RPG Superstar (when it was called Amulet of the Cunning Thug).

Pray tell, what do you consider a reasonable waiting period for this sort of thing? I don't claim to know the answer to that beyond "a feeling," but apparently, it's been an exceptionally long time as is.

What about using catch off guard and gloves of improvised might in order to use Nerf Bat as a bludgeon against the forces of evil?

Wouldn't help much. The 3.5 rule about how Evil outsiders bypass DR/Good with their natural attacks didn't make it into Pathfinder.

Now, if you use Bless Weapon on the bat first...

It did make it into Pathfinder, it's in the Bestiary Universal Monster Rules instead of the CRB.

Quote:
Some monsters are vulnerable to good-, evil-, chaotically, or lawfully aligned weapons. When a cleric casts align weapon, affected weapons might gain one or more of these properties, and certain magic weapons have these properties as well. A creature with an alignment subtype (chaotic, evil, good, or lawful) can overcome this type of damage reduction with its natural weapons and weapons it wields as if the weapons or natural weapons had an alignment (or alignments) that matched the subtype(s) of the creature.

Right. That means demons and angels can kill each other easily. However, it means that demons can't kill other demons. You know, the things that they're probably fighting more often than not.

I think it also had implications for lycanthropes being able to harm each other, too.

Scarab Sages 3/5

Having trouble killing each other is why the struggles in a plane are so fierce and long and lore-worthy.

Also, AR is taking too long. The entire system for it always bugged me, batching it up like that. Surely we can have more than one colour on the page for more frequent updates.

Or just keep it red for 6 months regardless of how many updates we have.

I wouldn't keep my hopes up for the Sanguine Angel. They make it pretty clear in the Gray Maiden article that Erinyes Company is all about serving Thrune and being evil cretinous cretizens.

It's a crying shame they locked some unique and excellent mechanics (coughStrengthBowscough) behind such narrow fluff.

There is also the group that split off and they are seemingly at odds with Erinyes Company. They would be a viable option for PFS characters.

However, it likely depends whether the PFS Scenario team wants to take the hard stance that the campaign takes place after the events of certain APs. For instance, the Sanguine Angels wouldn't exist if the PCs hadn't completed the AP that shattered the Gray Maidens first.

I actually specifically included lawful neutral as an alignment option to give it some hope of PFS legality. We'll see if that pays off.

(...though PFS characters not being able to worship the Queens of the Night is a little awkward. Hopefully the Book of the Damned shakes that up.)

Craig Logan 597 wrote:

The sanguine angels are pretty much only part of the Erinyes Company; they formed after the two subfactions split.

That said... it's not like we don't have a whole faction with significant ties to Cheliax, and an upcoming season that's all about the politics of the factions and their nations of origin. It'll be very interesting to see how this stuff shakes out. ^_^
