Magical knack and Fertile Soil racial trait

Rules Questions

For example, I'm an oread with the Fertile Soil alternate racial trait and the Magical Knack (cleric) trait. My levels are Monk 1/Cleric 3. Would I cast my domain spell Barkskin at CL 3 or CL 4? More specifically, when would the "as long as this bonus doesn’t raise your caster level above your current Hit Dice" kick in?

Magical Knack:
Pick a class when you gain this trait—your caster level in that class gains a +2 trait bonus as long as this bonus doesn’t raise your caster level above your current Hit Dice.

Fertile Soil:
Oread clerics with the Plant domain use their domain powers and spells at +1 caster level. This racial trait replaces earth affinity.

it would be cl 5

CL 3 for Cleric 3, Magical Knack +1 trait to CL and Race +1 to CL...would be CL 5. Magical Knack is used to offset multi-classing, it would give a second CL if you took another level in a class other than cleric. This bonus maxes at your HD. Some might read that both abilities give the same bonus so they don't stack, but they are different types of bonus, so most GMs should let them stack, really up to interpretation. Your Bless would be CL 3 + 1 = CL 4.

Oh, I have found an answer by James Jacobs to this question. Unfortunately it seems like it should be CL 4.

Magical Knack can NOT increase your CL above your Hit Dice (which in this case is 10), regardless of the order in which you apply things.

In general order doesn’t matter.

It can be important to keep in mind that James Jacobs' posts aren't any more 'official' than mine. That said, he is obviously very knowledgeable about the game, and in this case I find his argument very persuasive. As James Risner says, order of application isn't normally supposed to matter for this sort of thing. The wording prohibits Magical Knack from raising your Caster Level above your Character Level and that should still hold even if it is part of a 'stack.' Of course if you have three or more non-cleric levels then you could benefit from the full +3.
