ideas for additional factions?

so i was wondering what ideas you had for character concepts that have goals that dont necessarily clash with current factions but dont mesh either.
I've always thought that a generic druid doesnt really fit in with any faction. There goals are to protect nature and that fits perfectly in a faction that could be established by Green Faith in the Society, it doesnt go against their views.

The "Green Faith" Faction is a topic dating back at least five years, when I started PFS. I believe the consensus has been that if there were such a Faction, it would skew heavily towards a membership of Druids, Rangers and other similar classes. It wouldn't be as diverse, or have as diverse a skill set.

Whereas any class, race or skill set can find a reason to join any of the current Factions.

I do sort of hope that Starfinder has such a Faction, though.

Regarding Pathfinder Society:

Factions are going to change big-time in Season Nine, the Year of Faction's Favor. I am expecting huge upheaval in all our factions. It is going to be vitally important to run Season Nine Scenarios early, and to report them with the full reporting conditions. John and Linda have said that the early reports are going to determine the future of each of the factions.

Myself, I want to see Coulson Maldris go DOWN. Liberty's Edge deserves a more awesome leader. How about... Calisro Benarry? Or Eliza Petulengro? I am also hoping to see the Exchange split, releasing thse Szarnis back in to the world. Alas, Compton has already stated that the Shadow Lodge will not return. However, I am hoping to see the Grand Lodge show some more independence from the Ten and take on more of the care of Pathfinders. I would love for it to have many of the elements that made the Shadow Lodge awesome: rescue and body recovery missions, as well as become a true Pathfinder's Union.

Regarding Starfinder:

Starfinder has the Xenowardens, but we're not sure if they'll be a Starfinder Society Faction. At the PaizoCon Banquet, it was announced that the Hellknight Faction for Starfinder would not be an SFS Faction to start.

The wails of disappointed players reverberated through the room!

Hey, don't knock Hyperbole... It travels faster than light, and warps reality in a slightly disruptive manner than the Rift!

Several times I've heard people say they joined the Grand Lodge because "it's the I-don't-care faction." While I think it was meant to be the faction for people who want to focus solely on being Pathfinders, others seem to gravitate to the Lodge if they have little patience for investigation or intrigue and just want to hit things.

Hence I propose the Beatstick Bros faction (note: ladies are bros too; I want alliteration): home for field agents who cannot be bothered to write down important names and events, who barely speak anything other than Common (and even then, not very fluently), and whose first stop after being paid is the alehouse or the weapons shop. Their skillset is invaluable for defeating the horrific beasts that stand between their more bookish compatriots and the success conditions, but if a key person or macguffin gets caught in the crossfire, that's just the cost of doing business. So draw your +5 keen greatswords and sound the mantra of the BB's: "I attack!"

Liberty's Edge

The faction system means very little. In order for it to have a greater meaning there would have to be competing faction missions in at least some scenarios - which might not work well with "explore, cooperate and report".

Not soon, or not EVER? If the latter, why in either world not???

Not ever.

Please understand that this is only my memory of what he said when I sat next to him at the PaizoCon dinner.* Treat it as hearsay rather than as an official source. What I remembered him saying when the question was asked:

Compton: [regretful shake of head] "It's not coming back. The story has moved on."

At the PFS panel Compton also said that Shadow Lodge faction won't be coming back. It was highly implied that it would not get a storyline in season 9 either.

I do think it's the right decision. I realize that the Shadow Lodge is a thing for people who experienced it back then.

But I got started in season 5 and it's rather weird if you only experience it with the occasional out of order scenario from an old season. The story doesn't work so well for newer players.

Re: Exchange - I have a feeling there's going to be a fight for control between al'Hakam and Karela to be determined by early season reporting.

Re: Liberty's Edge - I may be in the minority but I like Colson Maldras. Is he flawed? Absolutely and that's part of his appeal for me. I do think something significant is going to happen that would pave the way for a change in leadership - I like the idea of Petulengro stepping up as a way to more cleanly break from Andoran. Depending on how that's handled (i.e. how they would treat Maldras) I could see at least one of my LibEdge characters switching factions in protest.

Re: Dark Archive - I for one would love to see a subplot where Zarta Dralneen...

Spoiler:
...makes a play for the Chelaxian throne (based on her connection to House Davian discovered in the Faithless and Forgotten series) and/or partners with Liberty's Edge to overthrow the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune.

I enjoyed the factions in the early seasons of organized play as they related to the Shadow War, but they tended to disrupt games, sending players off mission in pursuit of their own goals (so... fan of those factions, not a fan of those faction missions). The new factions are, in my opinion, somewhat flavorless and unfocused, with minimal rewards for "membership".

I have always thought organized play should have just three factions: The Scrolls, The Spells, and The Swords. After all, those three "factions" are an integral part of the Pathfinder Society. They have well-defined objectives within the workings of the Society and every mission either benefits those factions or would benefit from members of those factions participating.

And with only three factions, I imagine it might be easy to include a minor boon for each on every Chronicle that reflects how that mission's success has furthered the goals and pursuits of the Scrolls, Spells, and Swords.

I know this can't happen for Season 9, but I'd be thrilled to see this change in some future season.
