Now that the regular "Pathfinder Battles" blogs are back again, i´m gonna post news about the D&D minis here to not cluster up the Pathfinder thread. ;-)

I´ll begin with the D&D Icons of the Realms: Classic Creatures Box Set out in november from Wizkids.

It contains nine different prepainted miniatures:

Ogre (large)
Demogorgon (huge)
Orc (medium)
Troll (large)
Purple Worm (looks to be GARGANTUAN)
Orc Archer (medium)
Sahuagin Mystic (medium)
Owlbear (large)
Sahuagin (medium)

The price is $79.99 and shops will be able to order one free 3 inch Demogorgon (medium) miniature per box.

Thanks, Marco.

Looking forward to this. :)

Dark Archive

I have now found a better picture, where you can see the unpainted prototypes and BOTH DEMOGORGON & Purpleworm are definetly GARGANTUAN (4x4 squares)!

Getting two GARGANTUAN,
four LARGE
and four medium creatures in a box for $80 is incredible, that´s $8 per miniature!

Dark Archive

Also the extra Demogorgon is LARGE! ;-)

I´m super-excited to cross off one of the few miniatures from the Bestiary (1) that was still missing (as there hasn´t been produced any in the right size), the Purple Worm!

Also the list of Demon Lords minis is steadily increasing (still missing that Gargantuan Orcus unfortunately).:-)

Since my reply got deleted for some reason in the other thread, I will repost it here: thank you Marco for sharing all this miniature news with the community.

A large four-armed "Draegloth" (half Drow/half Demon) has been previewed.
I'll link a pic later, as i only have my mobile atm.
It looks cool though, possibly more impressive than the old one from the "Underdark" set.

I agree, it does look nice. I am curious about it's real size though. The old one is quite large. I hope this one is similar size. :-)

There is a video on youtube called "Tomb of Annihilation: Wizkids Miniatures Set Preview".

You can see that the "Annihilator" is indeed glued on a large base, but has so much overhang at the front and back as to be huge at least, if not gargantuan.

Also there are three different Skeletons shown, the "Bateri Goblin" (variant?), the "Nycaloth", the "Pterafolk", and the "Traps Set" incentive (which looks very useful).

As i can't link the video right now, maybe somebody else could do that? ;-)

Two weeks till release! :-)

Appreciated. However, as D&D minis are not Paizo licensed products, I have moved your thread from the licensed products forum to the general minis forum.

There is a new picture of the actual "Minsc & Boo" mini up on the DnD Tomb of Annihilation product page.

Looks good, but i can hardly make out Boo. ;-)

Minsc does look very nice! I'll buy one of him when the singles go on sale. Sadly, I'm not very excited about this set. The case incentive, the Juggernaut, the man-eating plant, and Minsc are the only must-haves so far for me. Artus Cimber, Dragonbait, the Bateri goblin and Valindra are maybes depending on what they look like in better photos. I'm hoping the rumors of a feathered t-rex are true and that figure looks good.

Dark Archive

A large Marilith has been previewed.

Also there is a new line of prepainted "Thistleguard" minis from Wizkids announced for february 2018.

Each non-blind, non-random booster features a kid & it's companion.

There are:
-Boy cleric & winged snake
-Girl ranger & Lynx
-Boy druid & Tree creature
-Girl wizard & Genie
-Boy Fighter & Battle dog
-Girl rogue & badger

minisgallery.com has a gallery

price is $6.99

These look really good & are hopefully on small bases.

Those Thistleguard minis look interesting. Kid + pet (plus some of the pet sculpts) make me think it's going to be a D&D for kids, but a) that's fine, getting young kids into RPG is fantastic, and b) I'd love to have more minis of kids and animals for my Pathfinder games.

Dark Archive

Wizkidas has pulled the name of the "Thistleguard" minis because of similarities:

ICv2.

They are now called: "WizKids Painted Miniatures" for the time being.

Dark Archive

The "Juggernaut" construct (Pathfinder Bestiaty 4 page 162-163) has been previewed.
It is on a large base, but has much overhang and is at least huge in size, maybe even a small gargantuan.

It should easily be the heaviest mini/booster in the set & is probably rare/one per case.

Marco, do you have any idea on how the minis singles are priced at launch (especially on Miniaturemarket due to the low shipping cost to Europe)?

I mean, it seems to me there are large variations in the very first days, so I think it's not only related to rarity & size...

I'd very like to have an idea of my cherry-picking cost for this one, but it would be interesting also for Pathfinder Battles in general, I am not able to find a common factor on how they are priced.

Finally, do you have any idea of where is the best place to buy minis from the Iconics sets? If I get it right neither Paizo nor MM sell them as singles.

I think that they each have their own formula. Factors included are most likely:

*Rarity

*Race (PC races has more demand, as do iconic monsters such as dragons/mind flayers/beholders/ect)

*Number of other examples If this is the 100th goblin, there is less demand than the first

*CR - Less games get to higher CR, so you are less likely to see use of a high CR creature, so demand may drop

*Number appearing - If they normally appear alone, a GM only needs one... if they normally appear in packs of 5-10 and are common *cough goblins cough* every GM is going to want at least 15 to support above average packs. Erik factors this into rarity slotting for the pathfinder lines... not sure if D&D people do.

*If there are other examples, what were they priced at, how fast did they sell, are the sold out, and how those the new model stack up against the old.

*How fragile is this sculpt - I own 8 slurks from shattered star set, 7 of them have one or 0 tusks. if things break easily, people will buy replacements, so supply will be down and demand will be up.

*Coolness factor - Is the sculpt cool, or is it boring?

How each site weights the above factors will vary from site to site, and even among employees at the same site. some sites will have higher prices at launch, if they sell 1 and find the price is too high, they can always drop the price later. If they sell out in minutes because the price was too low, they lost out on profits forever.

The iconic sets are $25-30 for 4 figures and a companion... THis puts them at $6-$8 a peice and the companion at $2-$4 minimum. The older sets you might be able to find a little cheaper as people were able to sell the card game cads separate. I would expect to pay about $7.50 each for the old ones and $9 for the ones on preorder (about half that for the companions). My biggest suggestion on this front is if you have a FLGS that sells singles and the iconic packs, offer to buy them as singles, if the store would open them up. GO in expecting a price, and haggle... If you are paying for 1/3 of the MSRP to buy 1 figure, that means they can make more selling the singles than selling the sealed box. Many local stores who sell singles will do this.

Many thanks Cpt_kirstov!

Yes, that seem reasonable. For Crown of Fangs, the first set for which I tried to buy singles on day 1, I found out it was most advantageous to buy the interesting singles as soon as possible, many arose in price and very few decreased, don't know if this is common.

Well, we should wait and see then...I expect something like this for the 3 pieces I want (from the one shown so far), we'll see if this holds:

- Acererak around 14
- Nothic around 7
- Minsc around 12

I hope they do not start higher...

As for Iconic singles, well, I would really like you were right...but here in Italy for some reason FLGS do not sell recent WizKids and I never found one who sold singles, that's why I buy abroad. And I live in Milan, not really far in the countryside...well, that's life, god bless the web.

The sites I found online which offer singles on Iconic either do not send to Italy or do so at very, very expensive rates.

Thanks for your time!

does anyone know why they havent previewed all the miniatures yet?wizard's site has 26th July as the release date of the 7th set, so in 24 hours is supposed to be the official releash ;PP!!!

Because they want the blind boxes to contain some surprises for the people who buy them? :-)

i agree with u, but they just didnt do it like that before!!i was checking every single day last 2 weeks to see the rest of them but nothing..and im a bit disappointment about the quality and the miniatures, only descent seems (to me) to be minsc and boo, tabaxi? and artus simber.

Might of the Paladins wrote:

Trust me when I say, I prefer to have the previews before they come up for sale. I love that Pathfinder makes a point of showing us each of the minis in the set ahead of time. I wish WoTC would do the same. :-)

They seem to do this every year for the summer set, usually only previewing half of the set before release. I have a feeling that they have some calculated slips at conventions for names that don't make the internet. Back before wizkids was involved, some of the miniatures employees would write up sneak peaks with cell phone pictures for the big collection site(s) to finish the previews and would post daily the month before release.

Picked up a couple of boosters from the local store. I received the Juggernaut, now that is a beast.

One of the figures I received, the Zorbo, looks like a large pile of horse manure. Worst paintjob ever. You can't even see what it is. I had to go to the internet for pictures of the monster to find out what it is.

Just opened my case. I think it's one of the stronger sets. Still not a fan of dungeon dressing incentives, but I did like the sarcophagus/altar thing. The large monsters in particular were a great selection, imo.

I´m getting 2 bricks and the incentive tomorrow.

What minis did you like best and which ones not at all?

Here is also a triple news-article with pictures of Wizkids unpainted miniatures wave 4, coming in november 2017 (D&D, Pathfinder & Wizkids own brand):

Unpainted minis

Some of them have already been released in earlier sets as prepainted versions, some others may be in upcoming sets.

What´s pretty cool imo, is that the unpainted dressing stuff (D&Ds Adventurer´s Camp, Pathfinders Rusty Dragon Inn bar & the new stuff from Wizkids) could also be used as relatively cheap props for people with small budgets.

Unfortunately i don´t know, but i would love to get painted versions of the unpainted minis.

I don´t think "Maze of Death" will have them, because that set seems to have zero humans in it, it´s very creature-heavy (which i like).

You also asked in the other thread, how i like the "Tomb of Annihilation" minis.

I´m very torn about the set.
Overall i think it is the worst of the seven Icons of the Realms sets, but there are some cool minis in it.

I only got my three bricks and the incentive today, so here are my thoughts:

GOOD:
1 Redcap (more classic than the PFB one)
3 Vegepygmy (tiny but cute)
4 Zorbo (mine looks much better than the pic)
7a&b Quawasha/Human Druid
9 Chultan Zombie (can be used for a normal chultan/Garundi)
10 Monodrone (not as goofy as i thought)
11 Su Monster
14 Vegepygmy Chief
15 Batiri Goblin
19 Duodrone
21a&b Tabaxi
22 Artus Cimber
24 Yuan-Ti Broodguard
26a&b Merrow (would look better on a medium base for PF)
27 Kamadan
29 Giant Scorpion
32a&b Nycaloth
34 Ultroloth
35 Nothic
38 Acererak (good sculpt & translucent FX, but bad facepaint)
39 Dragonbait

BAD:
2 Batiri Goblin
5 Velociraptor
12a&b Firenewt
16a&b Skeleton
18 Valindra Shadowmantle
20a&b Werebear
25a&b Dao
28 Pterafolk (too small, not flying)

GREAT:
13 Aldani (very cool for underwater/coastal adventures)
17 Aldani (")
23 Asharra (great paintjob)
30 Mantrap (the most useful mini of them all - doubles as vegetation)!
37 Couatl (very good paintjob)
42 Draegloth (paintjob could be better, but sculpt is great)
43 stone Juggernaut (great detail, HUGE size)
44 Giant Four-armed Gargoyle (impressive

UGLY:
6a, b, c Skeleton Key (really goofy & useless outside ToA)
8a&b Orcs (don´t look orcish enough)
31 Girallon (unimpressive9
33 Ras Nsi (very bad paintjob)
36 Nanny Pu´pu (too plain for a rare)

What changed from sets before:

Before a brick had two invisibles, now it´s only one (the three i have: Artus Cimber, Ultroloth & Couatl, are great)

You now seem to get a complete set of normal minis with a&b variants within a case (invisibles obviously not).
I have only three bricks and all i´m missing are #34, 40 & 41.

There are 56 different minis (including 12! variants) in the set plus 10 invisibles (we never had so many variants).

The incentive is the first "dressing/object" set which i don´t like.

The Portal is cool, as is the sarkophagus.
The giant stone face is cool for ToH & ToA and okay without.

The tiles are meh and the potions, sword, shield, scrolls & skull are way to small to be used in a game - once they fall from the table they are gone forever.

I would rather have an incentive with two HUGE minis (like the Elementals in Maze of death) or a more useful scenery (ship with sails, cannons & rowboat or a wizards tower).

Glad to see that im not the only one that thinks this is the worst set in icons of the realms line...(generally i think that PBM are a lot better than d&D ones and i started as a d&d fan). Also, bad thing about my country is that there are no bundles or pricks or something like that but they sell each box or minis individually, so i cherry pick miniatures that i really like or need (in my country they bring miniatures sets 3 weeks after official realease date). As far as i have seen the only miniatures i barely like are Artus,Tabaxi and minsc?and im not sure for the premium case because the items included in it are for one purpose, is not like a table that u will use it in almost any circumstances also as i dm i 'humanize' my campaign that means i rarely use monsters or i use them in a way that the campaign doesnt feel like 'ooh its the new monster that we dont know his powers and we must solve the mystery to kill it' but its more like:'The duke Bernadus(?) betrayed the Holy One (an order in my campaign) officer and he managed to capture the Hill Fort with the orc tribes of Black Marshes which are leading the Five Wizards': So maze of death will not be my best set because i dont like premium (no use for me) and has many creatures that i will not use in my entire life (i will buy though any ratfolks, ulat kini or other races).Monster and creatures fit into players that loved heroes of horror (3.5 edition) , but im fan of heroes of battle :))

I liked the four armed gargoyle, the girallon and the pterafolk.

The draegloth, couatl and the mantrap are probably my favourites.

I definitely prefer the D&D giant scorpion to the PF one - I'm really sick of enormous figures on large bases. They're irritating to use and it just seems to me that someone, somewhere has decided "if it's cool, making it bigger will make it more cool!" I'd rather medium - large - huge actually meant something.

The only figure I really, really didn't like was zorbo. I had no idea what it is supposed to be. It really just looks like a blob of plastic to me.

I really like the monster to PC/NPC ratio.

Monster Menagerie 3 announced for march 2018 - includes HUGE minis

Confirmed minis are:

:

-Goblin Hucker (L)
-Mouth of Grolantor (H)
-Dreamwalker (H)
-Dreadnought (H)
-Neogi (s/m)
-Slaad (m/L)
-Triton (m)
-Aasimar (m)

The release date of march means that we will probably get the next Pathfinder Battles set around may 2018.

Also the incentive is a "Kraken & Islands" set.

The kraken looks really weird to me, like it’s some kind of humanoid.

The creatures on the box art are:

-Dwarven Fighter? (medium)

The Kraken mini itself should be on a huge base with six tentacles on medium bases.

Yeah, it looks like the Spawn of Cthulhu case incentive from Pathfinder Battles.

It looks different in the D&D art too.

I love my Dungeon Crawler Kraken, too. The D&D one looks more like Clash of the Titans. I can handle that, but the tentacles look super skinny. I also note that they repeat - you get two of each.

The rowboat and trunk are nice. I'm sure I can find a use for the sand. The skeleton on the wheel looks a little too Pirates of the Caribbean (the ride) to me.

Wizkids have previewed their D&D Icons of the Realms Classic Creatures box set.

It will be out on december 13th.
Suggested retail price is &74.99 i think.

And yes, that Purple Worm is on a GARGANTUAN base.

Hey Marco - quite late but I just got my copy of this. I'm not sure if you've got a set, but I was quite disappointed. If you're still on the fence, I'd definitely see them in hand before taking the plunge.

The purple worm is almost exactly the same size as the huge demogorgon, not gargantuan (for some reason they didn't put it on a regular base. It'd be a 3x3 though and the sculpt isn't as good as the old D&D huge purple worm (or Wizkid's PF Battles version), imo.

The other minis were okay, but nothing special beyond the huge demogorgon. That's the only one I'm glad I've got and even then it kind of looks "glued together" out of several bits. Quite a poor set in my view.

About the only positive I could find is that Wizkids (finally!) got around to printing the mini labels in white the way they do with PF Battles. I've got no idea why someone thinks black on black in tiny font is a good idea for labelling. :/

Unfortunately, the epic heroes set still uses black on black, so not sure what that says going forward.

I like the AD&D style pig-faced orcs. Agree that the purple worm is rather lackluster. The huge Demogorgon is cool, the reason I bought the set, but even at huge, he looks kinda puny. Next to some of the gargantuan demons Paizo has put out, the that massive Orcus from Wizards a few years ago... he's pretty scrawny.

Wizkids has given the release date for Monster Menagerie III:

28th of march.

The Kraken also seems to be GARGANTUAN with LARGE tentacles:

Kraken attacks ship

The quality of the last D&D set "Tomb of Annihilation" wasn´t very good, but i think the fact that MM3 has HUGE creatures (the Cyclops looks good and can be used as "Greater Cyclops" for Pathfinder) makes the set interesting.

We should get previews of actual minis very soon, i´ll then post them here. :-)

Thanks, marco.

Greatly appreciated.

Wizkids is making the "ICONS OF THE REALMS: FALLEN STAR", a MASSIVE PAINTED SHIP!!!

It looks like it´s gonna be 5 or 6 squares broad and the two stern and aft sections are gonna be 6 x 6 squares, with the middle deck section looking like it´s 8 squares long.

"NECA/WizKids representative James O’Brien gave ICv2 the rundown on the prototype ship. “The decks of the ship are going to be removable. You can have things going on below decks, whether it's stored treasure, surprise encounters, or if it's even just a place that people end up moving to, to have some combat interactions.”

“One side of the decks are going to have a grid for combat, and the other side of the deck is going to be plain,” he continued. “Whether people are doing gridded games of Dungeons & Dragons, or theater of mind, it's going to be the right layout for them.” The design is not final. WizKids did hint that an unpainted version of the boat may be available after the painted version is released."

Also shown are the tentacles, sandbank and rowboat from the march 28th Kraken Monster Menagerie III set.

It looks, like there are two open/close-able doors and 8 open/close-able cannon doors.

I know i´ll be getting this.

Personally i estimate a price between $100 and $120.

This is a mini i have been waiting for a long time.

What do you think of it?

auto failed will save for me...

will it be released with a main set of random mini called Fallen Star or it's the name of the ship taken form the famous sea and it will be stand alone as Orcus, or the Collossal red?

Thank you Marco fo sharing this.

In others news it seems like a lot of time passed since we eard about Monster Menagerie 3

I don´t know, but personally i think it will be a stand alone Boxed Set as the Colossal Red Dragon, because of the comment that it will have one gridded and one ungridded side and because of it´s size.

On the other hand, the yet officially untitled Icons of the Realms Set #9 & it´s case incentive are scheduled for a july 2018 release, so who knows?

I also found the ships schematics and it looks the same:

FALLING STAR

Yeah, about MM III, Wizkids sure are taking their time with previews.
Personally i expect the first one somewhen this week, maybe tomorrow, maybe friday.

Also Tiamat & Bahamut 2nd printings will soon be back in stores.
