Summoned Monsters and Special Abilities

Rules Questions

The Exchange

I've been scouring the forum for answers on a question about summons that's been bugging me. I know that their spells end when they disappear but I can't find anything about what happens to the effects of their Special Abilities. I figure stuff like poison would still be in effect but does this apply to everything across the board?

I would say no unless you find rule to say so. They call out spells but not other things in the rules.

I've always run it that anything requiring the summoned creatures magical or physical existence to continue ends when the summon ends. So a bleed effect would continue, but poison would stop as the poison literally vanishes from the victim's system. I mean, if you took a bite out of a summoned creature the flesh would disappear when the summon ended, so why wouldn't any other physical product like venom?

If spells, which normally DO continue to persist after the caster's death, don't do so for a summon, I'm inclined to go with early endings for most other abilities.

Side note - Do be aware that spells expire, as if their duration had run the full course. Spells with instant and permanent duration will stick around.

Sorry I got that a little mixed up. I meant a poison's effects like strength damage and the like.

I was wondering how that applied to something like a Goblin Dog's allergic reaction which has a duration of 1 day.
