Just curious when the Rules Archive (PRD) will be updated to bring the content current with published rules?

The PRD is generally updated when a book is reprinted. Now, note that ONLY that book is fixed, so if a rule spans multiple books, the incorrect/unedited information continues to be available until THOSE books gets a reprints. AS such, the PRD will NEVER be 100% current, as it as it's tied to publishing runs for individual books.

I guess I mean more like, when it it include Bestiary 6, Horror Adventures, Ultimate Intrigue, and the Adventurer's Guide?

Still no Ultimate Intrigue in the PRD, though. It's a few releases back.

Oh, you wanted to know when NEW material gets added. No set schedule really, at least not one I know of. The last update was 5/25/2016 so as you can see a year+ may pass between updates.

EDIT: You do know there are 3rd party sites that actually keep up with the current info right?

There's the stickler GMs who want to see something on the PRD...

Those GMs are going to be tricked by players using pre-errata rules if they aren't careful. ;)

Quite true. I've had quite a few debates here and quoted things from the PRD only to be told "it's been updated in book x".

d20pfsrd ain't perfect, but it's much more up-to-date than the PRD.

I must admit that I prefer the PRD as it´s more useful on a smartphone and tablet.

And I think that the Archives of Nethys now has all of the hardbacks except for Bestiary 6 and the Adventurer's Guide.

It's missing the Villain Codex as well. Adventurer's Guide is a given, especially since it only came out publicly today.

I made a mental note to check back on this now that I'm not typing exclusively with thumbs.

The topic of the PRD came up during a Q&A session for the Adventurer's Guide at PaizoCon - in particular, Jon Compton made note that PFS scenarios are easier to develop when options are presented in the PRD and they don't need to be reprinted, which is one of many reasons why things like the Hellknight and Hellknight Signifer were reprinted in the book. Having the rules readily available for reference via the rules hardcovers, which theoretically all go into the PRD, means saved page space and word count. I would take that point to mean that it is a priority to get the PRD updated, particularly before Gen Con.

That said, "a priority" lands into a minefield of other priorities and the PRD is hardly the single highest priority on the Paizo plate.

Good to know though I could do with that sites look/theme.

One would think that, with such heavy reliance on the PRD for organized play, it would be an absolute priority to keep as current as possible.

As it stands, the last noted update of the PRD is two years ago, which is ... bad.

15 months ago, but point taken.

There have been significant references to an upcoming update since PaizoCon, so I suspect it will happen sometime within the next month.

The PRD is maintained by a single person at this point (hi!), and while it is important to us at Paizo to get those updates up, there are a lot of priorities to balance. That said, we have had some discussions about getting the updates moved up the To-Do list in the time following Gen Con. I hear you, it sucks that it's not up to do date, and once we have news to announce, we'll announce it.

Thanks, and I feel your pain on the scale of updating. Hopefully there'll be a team assigned to the task to knock it out swiftly.

Good luck!

I'll do it. You don't even have to pay me. Just give me access to all the books =P

Any word on the after GenCon update? It would be nice to see some of the stuff updated

So we're well into 2018, and still no updates, yet lots more books have been released.

IMO a resource that out of date is worse than no resource at all. If you took it down, at least people would then find resources that are up to date. I really want to use PRD, but as it stands it's just a trap.

The PRD will be always "out of date", because it includes only open content from hardcovers (and Technology Guide). Neither will it ever be "complete" or "exhaustive".

Frankly, with AoN and d20pfsrd having all the open content, I can see why PRD has a low priority for Paizo now.

Besides, you can actually play the game well enough without the books that aren't listed.

At this point, with Pathfinder 2 in the horizon and the Starfinder RD needing to be implemented, as well as the other sites available, I could see the PRD never being updated again.
I would hope that would not be the case, but I could see the PRD being just low enough of a priority that mañana never comes, as my mom is fond of saying.
Personally, I would have reached out to a local college, offered a short term internship and handed the project off to a couple of seniors, but Paizo knows their own company best.

Given Paizo's own expectation that their PRD stand as the ultimate authority and reference point for contributors, not updating it is at best a poor standard of expectations to set.

Might as well obliterate it while redefining that contributors' standard. It does them more harm than good to hold to an expectation that cannot be fulfilled with any expectations for using material of newer publication than whenever the last time this thing was properly updated.

I understand that poor Chris is stuck with having to shoehorn updating the PRD into her busy schedule. Going 15+ months at a clip between updates, given the volume of material published, is unfortunately lackluster.

Isn't there some way to simply extract the particulars on whatever timer from the 'original print' PDFs? That seems to be how the Archives of Nethys has been doing it for the past umpteen years. When errata and corrections are generated, apply them simultaneously with the blog/FAQ/whatever is generated. Unless this is impossible for some reason.

Of course there is something that the PRD for PF1 has that we won't have for PF2 or Starfinder any time soon -- and end in sight to the updates. Once every hardback up through Planar Adventures is posted, that job is done, and that part of the site will never need to be updated again.
