Monks. The classic DnD problem child. Root cause for seemingly endless confusion and controversy. It's a part of why I love them so.
So Monks get bonus feats that ignore prereqs, and certain archetypes get even for bonus stuff. This is a thing for the Far Strike Monk. It can take any Targeting feat as a bonus feat.
Conundrum: Ace Trip and Ace Disarm are Targeting feats. Both of these feats call out the use of the prerequisite feats Ranged Trip and Ranged Disarm.
Query: Would the ace feats just be dead on arrival without the prerequisite ranged version?
Also, slings... aren't thrown, right? I still don't know the answer to that.

Not rules-wise, but in effect, yes. It's like a non-caster getting a metamagic feat.

No, they are not.
Projectile Weapons: Blowguns, light crossbows, slings, heavy crossbows, shortbows, composite shortbows, longbows, composite longbows, halfling sling staves, hand crossbows, and repeating crossbows are projectile weapons. Most projectile weapons require two hands to use (see specific weapon descriptions). A character gets no Strength bonus on damage rolls with a projectile weapon unless it's a specially built composite shortbow or longbow, or a sling. If the character has a penalty for low Strength, apply it to damage rolls when he uses a bow or a sling.

Maybe? I've seen people use the weapon group for thrown weapons and some use non-projectile weapons that have a range. I'd ask the DM to make sure.
For an official answer I'd say it wasn't but if i had someone that wanted to play a halfling far strike monk with a sling, I'd let it slide.

In point of RAW: Parsed Feat-
1) You don’t take the –2 penalty for making trip attempts with a ranged weapon using Ranged Trip,
2) and you can attempt special ranged trip combat maneuver checks against flying creatures.
If the combat maneuver succeeds, the target falls... etc.
You can use a NORMAL RANGED TRIP WEAPON for the special combat maneuver.
How do you get a ranged trip? The feat RANGED TRIP lets you throw any weapon as FRA. You can throw a thrown weapon with TRIP special ability as a standard attack.
This is important for things like Shikigami Mimicry... I can now do the special ranged trip combat maneuver a FLURRY of times in a round - replacing the normal attacks I do. Granted, at a -2, like the normal RANGED TRIP attempt with a 2H sword or WHATEVER WEAPON you like.
NOTE: ACE DISARM does require two feats RAW, as it states RANGED DISARM for both the -2 negation and the special attack.
