What class do you always mean to get around to playing but never do?

In nearly 20 years of D&D and similar RPGs I have not played a Barbarian since my very first character made as a wee lad. It's a class I love conceptually and I always consider playing one whenever I join a new campaign, but I never do.

Wizard is in a similar position, but more because if I want to be a 9th level arcane caster then Arcanist or Witch or the like just seem more rife with character ideas.


Druid, actually.

I've literally never played one and I don't know where I'd even start.


Bard. Bards are my favorite class but each time that I tried to play one the game never lasted and the group was awful.
My bards were treated as a joke or not allowed to do what they were meant to do (i.e. in social situations a character with dumped charisma would take the diplomatic role, act as a moron and screw up everything).

I'm still waiting to be able to play a good bard.

I've also never played a Paladin and I've always wanted to do it.


I've still never managed to get an Inquisitor into play. Whether PC or NPC, or talking someone else into playing one, it's the oldest class that I've yet to have seen in action.

Skald is also on my to-do list.

More recently (relatively speaking), there's been the Mesmerist. I got to stat up an NPC of the class at least, but she never ended up seeing play.


Druid, wizard, psion... Of course, druids interest me much less since the wildshape feature has become so central to them... and I feel wizards are badly nerfed compared to what they were in AD&D or even 3.00.


I have never played a Druid either, aside from some NPCs, but even though I love the class I don't have the urge of playing one as I do with the bard.
I wanted to play one since I started to play D&D more than a decade ago. And it's my favorite class. I had many bard NPCs around but never a PC.


Shaman, If alternates count: Ninja, Anti-Pal, Samurai, Oracle, Witch, Alchemist, Arcanist, Brawler, Investigator, Skald, Slayer, Swashbuckler, Warpriest, Commoner, Warrior, Kineticist, Medium, Mesmerist, Occultist, Psychic, and Spritualist.

So many choices, I usually stick to something related to Core or try to get into a Pbp and my Character with new class is not to be chosen by DM sadly.


Mesmerist. I've been wanting to play one since OA came out, but I've yet to be in a party where one fit well with everybody else (I generally pick a class after I know what everybody else is playing, I have a file of potential characters that might be repurposed as NPCs if I never get to play them.)


Ninja, Cavalier, Oracle, and I have a dwarven zen archer planned that I haven't had a chance to use.

Scarab Sages

Magus and Oracle. I love the idea of both and have worked out several characters I'd like to try out. Neither ever seems to fit right with the particular campaign at hand though.


Alchemist is my favorite pathfinder class, and every time we start a new campaign it doesn't quite fit. Occultist is starting to fall into this as well, but it's not as long standing and if I convince my group to play Strange Aeons I'm good to go.

Bloodrager and Magus are on the list too. I've recently taken to Paladins more, mostly for 5e (and 4e before I swore it off*).

*There are a lot of cool 4e classes I wanted to play actually but one campaign in 4e killed any interest I had in the system.


Witch. Recently rolled one up as a back up character but he probably won't show up in the current campaign. Also Barbarian, though it's less on My List and more I have a starting point for you.


Magus, I really like the concept and have been playing around with builds for years but for some reason have never brought them to the table, not even as NPCs when I'm the GM

Spheres of Power fey adept. Not enough PBP games allow 3pp and it's not that often they need an illusion specialist.

Nearly all of them. Pick one. I'm the GM and have been for 30+ years. I rarely ever get to play, so when I DO get to play it's usually a cleric or fighter. So there are a LOT of classes I'd like to try.

Slight derail:
Nah, their power requires a lot more system mastery, which makes the most sense, since their character's main source of power is also the main source of system mastery (Intelligence), but they're still as powerful as they were back then. If anything, they're more powerful since crafting doesn't take experience or other similarly permanent losses.

I second being able to play a Bard; well, more accurately, an Azata-Blooded Aasimar with a two level dip in Paladin who functions via the Aid Another buddy system (which has been significantly nerfed since I created the concept sadly) and draws aggro by being the biggest enabler in the party (all the to-hit and AC bonuses I rack from Aid Another add up).

Now, I'm not sure if I want to since they made Bodyguard pretty damn useless, and I've played at tables with houserules that basically ditches Charisma and splits anything Charisma-based between Intelligence and Wisdom (Paladins and Bards falling on opposite ends of that spectrum), so even if I would get the opportunity, it'd be too weak to function at its core job (and therefore not be fun to play).


Probably Barbarian - I've always meant to try one and never seem to hit on a concept for one that interests me. Cavalier is another, though that is less a case of not being able to think of a concept and more the fact that most APs/modules/scenarios aren't very Cavalier friendly unless you take an archetype that ditches the mount - or play a small-sized race which I don't really want to do.

I've played a druid before in a F2F game but she was my first Pathfinder character ever and at the time I didn't really know what I wanted to do with her. So at some point I'd like to have a do-over and play one that I've actually got a background and general 'build' for that I'm excited about.

Witch, keep coming up with fun builds but o never play one - something cooler just keeps coming my way.

I've made 2 druids and 2 sorcerers and 2 Occultists and played exactly none of them xD I've made maybe 20 characters and played 4 of them though so :L


Rogue. I'm like this is the game and then someone else says they gonna play a sneaky class and I'm like yeah I can do fighter or mage.

I was going for the double meaning of cool.

I actually love the Witch but as much as I love the concept of Winter Witches I have enjoyed a lot playing a vanilla one.

I'd like to try a Conjurer, I keep playing universalist Wizards. Maybe a Cleric. Maybe I'll try a summoning oriented Cleric next...


Druid. Aside from GMing, I've been play for like five years now and have managed to play my conjurer, reach cleric, and a starsoul sorcerer.

All very fun, but I miss diversity. I get to play a bunch of different NPC in the game I GM, but it's just not the same playing occasional one-off builds (although playing a high-level ranger/horizon walker) with the dimensional agility chain was super fun; and so beloved an enemy NPC I am pretty sure the party let him go to just face him again.


I've always wanted to try a blaster bard, a Sound Striker Bard from Pitax: Academy of Grand Arts.

My big holdup is it comes online @ 6th which is painful in PFS & home games that start @ 1st.


Spiritualist. I kept messing with character ideas when I first got Occult Adventures.

But then Horror Adventures came out, and I'm finally playing the Living Grimoire Inquisitor. Then Heroes of the High Court came out, and I made the Dragonscale Loyalist Vigilante. And now with Starfinder coming out, I might not get to it for a while yet.


I think I've played all Core classes at some point except for Rogue, which I've never had more than a few levels of (and those not since the 3.5 days). Unchained Rogue seems like it could be interesting though since my latest "generation" of PCs was 3 martials I might want something more magical if and when a new Pathfinder game arises.

Some of the newer classes could be fun to try too though I can't say I've really been meaning to get around to them.


All of them. I haven't gotten to play (or DM/GM, for that matter) since 1st Edition AD&D. For what it's worth, what I got to play back then were Cleric, Fighter, Magic-User (what they used to call Wizards back then), Paladin; also a bit of Druid, Illusionist (separate class back then, although nominally called a "subclass" of Magic-Users), and Thief (what they used to call Rogues back then). College (all the way back in the 1980s) seemed to be the last opportunity to do that, except for rare reunions with one of my college classmates.
