Monster too strong?

Advice

I am currently at a point in the Adventure Path where they must combat a level 9 Sorcerer.

The party is currently only level 5 and must face off against this NPC that has waves of 30 minor NPCs during a raid on a fortress.

The NPC caster has two spells that can completely destroy about 3 of the 5 PCs that are participating. According to the Lightning Bolt spell and Magic Missle, she can currently cast 5d4+9 magic missile 7/day and 9d6 Lightning bolt 7/day Majority of my NPCs do not have enough HP to take the Lightning bolt if I manage to roll even close to max damage.

Is this too powerful for my PCs?

Hard to say without knowing what the PCs are but it does sound kinda too hard.

Isabella Locke?

Nah, she's not too strong!

Have her minions face the defenders of the fortress and the PCs crew while she focuses on the PCs.

This is how the encounter went with my group. Her invisibility and flight put them into some trouble but it went well.
They were a bard, a swashbuckler and a sorcerer with Sandara as a supporting NPC.

Hi Keedo,
sounds hard - what AP are you guys playing? Maybe someone who's already been through the adventure can offer some advice...

Its Skulls and Shackles Book 2.

The party makeup right now is Druid/Wolf Companion, Samurai, Sorcerer, Cleric, Summoner

It's Skull and Shackles. I recognize the fight. And she's not that overpowered. She approaches the castle with her people trying to bring the doors down under an obscuring mist, she then casts invisibility and tries to fly on her own to the top of the tower to kill the people there. Going solo is not such a menace.

PCs should be able to counter her strategy as it's not so good.

Even if they see her ship coming (new moon, poor visibility they might face her there). There are too many options to win this fight. But the PCs should always rely on their crew and the defenders of the fortress to deal with the minions.

With your party it should be an easy win.

My strategies are perfect, what are you talking about? I AM NOT AN EASY WIN!
And I am not a monster either, OP, just misunderstood.

Um, your name is Isabella "Inkskin" Locke. You're a pirate, own your pirate name. :-)

Oh snap you brung up a character Kile already had an alias of. My suggestion go with what she says she must know.

Unless, you want to sell it, that is.

You'd be surprised, who will sell you their name.

I'd own my pirate name if someone else hadn't owned it before.

You have summoned Kileanna "Derailer of Threads"!! Run fast and you may survive to loot another day!

The second horsemen of derailment is here Dalindra.

Abandon all hope.

It has already happened.
Sorry Keedo.
I still want to help if you need some advice.

You can't be sure that the GM would run it like this anyway.

... and in the advice forum, some spoiler tags would have been nice ...

Sorry for the spoilers. You are right.

Keedo is the GM and of course he can change the strategies as he wishes. I'm talking about her strategies as written on the book. If he wants to play her different he should do it, but as he was concerned about her being too strong I just said that, as she is written, she is doable.

Thanks for all your advice!

I hope it is useful. If you need something else just ask.

Also, if you feel like doing it, let us know how the encounter went. I am curious.

She wants to hear all about how her alias did.

LOL
It's more that I need to know if I gave good advice or sent the poor PCs into a death trap xD
I was so sure that she should be a doable fight that I'd feel guilty if it finally wasn't.

^shes secretly rooting for Isabella^

There's no such thing as a 5d4+9 magic missle?

There is if it's an Orc Bloodline Sorcerer or a sorcerer or bloodrager with Blood Havoc. +1 damage per damage dice rolled with spells.

Her bloodline is Aquatic, with the Archetype of tattooed sorcerer.
