Event Trading 101: Put the Lime in the Coconut and Mix it All Up

Heretofore I've been assuming the 'hows' and 'whens' of event trading would be obvious -- but as I now see that there is a scheduled start and end date, I figured I'd ask as a newbie to PaizoCon.

How does Paizo handle event trading (if it isn't obvious)?

I was just going to start a Thread saying 'This is an event I have and can trade' / 'This is an event I don't have and really want' -- Any takers?

Isn't that pretty much it?

There's a mechanism Paizo sets up for event trading, where you can only list for trade those games that you actually have a slot in, and you list what you would like to trade for. Others do the same. Then you can look at what's on offer and execute trades.

As I recall, it's pretty clear and straightforward.

There will also be a board at PaizoCon where people can put up tickets they have that they're not going to use, and you can just grab them and go to the event.

I've never actually had a trade go through - is there any notification of the swap, or does it just show on the schedule?

Also - anyone know what happens if the trade initiator has a schedule conflict with the trade?

What Majuba said!

I've been trying to trade a Sun slot of a game for a Sat slot of the same game (and there is someone trying to make that exact switch, so it seems like it should work) but the trade doesn't seem to be available.

Twice now my proposed trade has disappeared too.

Please help!

I can answer some of these trading questions.

I traded a game with my son for this year's PaizoCon, and I didn't get a notification. After I clicked "Accept Trade" it said something like "Trade Accepted" in green (much like it says "On Your Schedule" for an event you've selected in the PaizoCon full schedule listing), but I didn't get anything more than that. The newly-traded events did show up on both our schedules immediately.

As to conflicts, it wouldn't let me execute the trade when I had a seminar selected that conflicted with the proposed trade. It went through just fine once I dropped the conflicting event.

Unfortunately, I have no idea what the story is with trading same-game slots on different days as Belabras is trying to do.

There seems to be several problems in the, sorry, 'limited' system. I have a ticket to the PFS 8-99 Special. So I ought to be able to "accept a trade" with anyone who is trading something of theirs for the ticket I have. ....But it's only giving me a couple of those options.

And there are other limitations, including not being able to offer ones ticket for the first taker of any one of several other tickets.

I understand that there will temporarily be instances of people with tickets to two events at the same time when they 'trade-up,' as it were, but while that's not cool -- I do think it will be temporary. Even brief. People can be on waitlists for those open tables and seminars and there won't be a real issue.

Ultimately, I think the trade system is so limited that, and especially considering Majuba's indication that it's always (or typically) like this, one should just contact people directly with trade possibilities via PM and finalize them when you meet at PaizoCon.

I know I've been trying to execute a trade for someone to whom I owe a favor, but will have no real chance until I reach PaizoCon. ....Then there's another trade I'm still trying to make for myself that likely won't pan out even when we meet at PaizoCon. And finally there's the trade someone said they'll accept if one of the trades he is working on actually goes through.

I feel the best thing we all have going for us is that we're a good community of, I dunno what you call it, social media friends, and it'll all work out in the end.

I think the Paizo staff has enough to worry about without trying to keep a trade system going considering we are able to do it ourselves on the Boards.

Speaking of trading I did notice an issue I had earlier when I proposed a trade for my Friday afternoon event "Iron Adventurer challenge" in exchange for "#6-02: The Silver Mount Collection" on Friday or Saturday last week. I woke up on Sunday the 14th and was concerned that my Iron Adventurer was missing from my schedule. Then i got excited thinking some accepted my trade. So I went to the trading site and looked at proposed and didn't see anything. So I got excited more and started to wonder what happened. I scrolled dwn and saw that 6-02 in the list of events said on your schedule.

Then after a few days I noticed that it no longer said that 6-02 was "on your schedule" I looked at my schedule and didn't see either iron adventurer or 6-02 on my schedule on the right side of the screen.

I was recommend to send an email by Katina so they can look into this.

Not wanting to say it but I do feel a little screwed for lack of a better word.

I know Paizo wouldn't directly do that.

Unless:
Unless your leg o lamb ;)

Did anyone else have this same thing happen?

I got it worked out. It was a conflict in the slot I was trying to switch with.
