Dandy ranger taking a level of oracle a good idea for cha to ac / reflex?

Advice

Like the title said I am looking yo make a dandy ranger for a campaign soon and I want to save those precious precious point buy points and I thought dipping one level of Oracle for sidestep secret would be pretty funny. What do you think? is it a bit of a waste?

Felt like making him aasimar(I forget which type gives bonuses to str and cha) with stats like STR: 18 DEX: 7 CON: 14 INT: 12 WIS: 12 CHA: 16

I generally find it useful to have at least a light touch of a caster class in a martial build so as to have access to wands, but as a Ranger, you have that built-in. I suppose you have to ask yourself whether picking up an Oracle curse is worth it for you. If you do, you might want to go all the way and get Desna's Divine Fighting Technique so you can TWF with starknives and use Cha for attacks and damage, which will allow you to save point-buy on Str as well.

Or you could base your character on the Swashbuckler class and just pick up the Survival skill with a trait.

Yeah you are right. The curse can become a problem. I will look into desna's shooting star but i'm not sure my GM will allow it. I kind of wanted to make it a shield bash character. I feel like the idea of a fancy noble shield bashing people left and right.

LOL Curse as a problem? Really? There are awesome options. for instance Deep one: -5 speed & gain swim speed = to land speed. Plagued: -1 disease/infestation saves for imm sickened. Plagued can be combined with covetous/legalistic [with dual curse] allowing you to avoid the bad effects with plagued immunity.

Also, you could take a feat to pick up the revelation Lore Keeper for Cha instead of Int modifier on all Knowledge checks.

Are Deep One and Plagued 3PP? They're not on PFSRD. Anyway, Plagued sounds extremely antithetic to a «noble dandy» kind of character. Come to think of it, so does Deep One, to a lesser degree. Is this Angelkin noble supposed to be part newt?

In my experience, Tongues is the least detrimental curse for a combat Oracle, but if your noble should act as the party's face, it wouldn't do to start babbling unintellegibly during crises.

Aged sounds like it could be great for a completely Cha-oriented build (a Yoda-type Lore Oracle), but I suppose the dandy isn't supposed to be all that old. It's also 3PP, so your DM might not accept it.

Yeahm, so my gm won't allow desna's shooting star so that's out of the window. Anyone have a suggestion for cool ranger builds besides a shield build?

Swashbuckler 20 and a trait giving Survival?

Yeah, might do. I think I should just stick to single class either swashbuckler or ranger. The dandy ranger archetype is just so cool. I've been looking into what ranger builds I could make and the shield bash one sounds by far the most interesting I've done the ranged/TWF/reach shtick so many times and I feel like making something fresh. Maybe some of the deity ranger combat styles.

Oh wait I just realized I could just VMC oracle for sidestep.

Side step is not a VMC option

An alternative to oracle is to take a ravener hunter/sanctified slayer inquisitor. That gets you 2 more skill points, monster lore, stern gaze, prophetic armor (lunar mystery), and studied target.

Nope. Look in the new horror book.

It is? Nobles are known for all kinds in issues from inbreeding such as 'royal diseases' like hemophilia. And it's described as "suffers from minor illnesses and sicknesses" and that seems perfect for a sheltered noble.

"cough, cough... I'm not used to all this nature. My eyes are watering!"

Coming from a noble family that made some unsavory dealings in the past is out of character? Corrupted nobles is a staple of fiction writing. And remember that this is a curse on a dip. That's 1/4th of the curse so I don't expect many if any physical deformities. Maybe some webbed toes of a nictitating membrane?

I can't find the plagued or deep one curses anywhere. Seems they are not up on any website yet.

Horror realms, curses of corruption: pg 14-15. I have NO idea if they are up on any sites or not.

Here is the starting curses.

Plagued: You suffer from minor ailments and sicknesses. -1 saves vs disease and infestation: Imm to sickness.

Deep One: The lure of the sea tugs at your soul, -5' land speed: gain swim speed = land speed: if you have a swim speed +10'.

There are several traits with bonuses to disease saves so the curse is hardly burden. And 5' of move is easy to regain and a swim speed is always a boon.

Given royal families' breeding habits, Deep One seems the most appropriate, if you ask me.
