Water Manipulator Wild Talent

Advice

I'm just checking my numbers here, and then would like some advice to see if it's worth it.

So at level 6, I will have access to Water Manipulator, which at first glance looked great! I come across enough situations where water is a troublesome thing for the group, and to be able to work around it would be a huge help. But now I am become less certain as I do the numbers.

At level 6, I will be able to raise or lower water levels of a 60ftx60ft area by 12 ft. That's pretty good, but what really attracted me was the ability to move 1/1000th of that volume around.

I ran some numbers (at the end) and was like "I can move 43 or so cubic ft of water!" That's quite a bit (2700lbs of water almost). But then I realized that on a combat grid, that's about a third of one square... I can't even move 1 square worth of water until level 9. It kind of bummed me out. There's no rules on attacking with the 2700lbs of water, so it's pure utility (and that's fine to me), but I was hoping to kind of Moses the water out of my party's way.

Am I doing my math correctly? And if so, what are your thoughts on the overall utility of Water Manipulator?

Thanks!

Water Manipulator at 6th Level:
60ftx60ftx12ft = 43,200ft^3
43,200ft^3/1000 = 43.2ft^3

1 Combat Square:
5ftx5ftx5ft = 125ft^3

Thats correct, it kinda bummed me out as well.

I think it should be useable with kinetic cover (use it to stretch a wall really tall) but I have had mixed results when asking about it. Given that one is a prereq for the other and the wall is still a one-hit to get rid of it didnt seem all that far fetched to me but YMMV.

On the other hand no one seemed to have a problem with my using water manipulator to pick up a wall and move it around, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I do like kinetic cover... I just feel that more water should be moveable, even at level 20, the ability caps off at roughly 13 5ft cubes.

it does seem pretty low, although if you made it too much higher i can see how flooding could be the answer to most problems

At level 20, the guy can raise water levels of a 200ftx200ft area by 40ft. That's essentially creating 1.6 million ft^3 of water or almost 13,000 combat squares.

That could flood a river village quite nicely already. I just thought that if a person could manipulate that much water, they should be able to at least move 100 combat squares of water at that level.

But on a different note, can you "raise" the water levels of a sizable puddle? (lets say 5ftx5ft 2ft-3ft deep) If I magically dump out enough water in a room to cover the floor (inches of water in this case), could I raise the water to be 10ft deep at level 6?

I don't see why not, its the same concept i mentioned with the kinetic cover. Raising the level of a much smaller body of water than your max shouldn't be an issue imo.

do you want to flag this thread for moving to the rules section? might get some more opinions then

I should at this point. Thanks! I appreciate the help so far!

The thing is that this is, to my knowledge, one of the few abilities in the game that scaled by level cubed. Sure, it's a little lackluster at it's very lowest level, but, as Link mentioned, at level 20, it's an absurd amount of water -- like commit mass murder on a whim levels of water -- and even at level 10 it's pretty much "kill everything that can't breath wather in this room" if there is so much as a damp corner in it (since it's 100'x100'x20' at that point). I think that's pretty spiffy for zero burn.

That's why I'm trying to see what the limitations to the ability is. If the damp corner of the room is covering a combat square, does it just increase the level of that square by 20ft at level 10 making the water just spill over? (I have a feeling this is how it is due to having to select an area of water)

And if the above is true, just how much water needs to exist for it to be selected as a legal area?
