All I get is empty envelopes with a note that says "TOZ WUZ 'ERE".

If you do, please add the Web Fiction too :)

The Exchange

You know, I would love a set of anthologies with the complete webfiction stories. And they might even help get new readers into the series. They're short, and varied - delightful tastes into the world of Golarion. Enough to hook readers, and varied enough that readers will think "I'm getting a lot of stories for the price!"

Another thing that might help is some sort of official guide to the webfiction and novels. Given how many there are now, its a bit overwhelming. Not to mention the variations in genre. I've started a list myself of which stories are set in which region, ands I might start adding genres to that list (as well as making a separate list with them sorted by genre, instead of region).

But then, I'm crazy and love both novels, Pathfinder, and making lists. And apparently trying to sell the series to people while on my breaks.

I have no idea how you select authors for the Tales line, but if this is a wishlist for future novels: I'd love to see Shanna Germain's take on Golarion. Her Numenera novel The Poison Eater was fantastic--easily the best read in the SciFi/Fantasy department in a long time.

Here is the full list of Tales and locations, if that helps.

I was working off that list, actually, but I've filled in all the gaps and organized it, adding authors, too. If you helped make that, thanks! Maybe I'll post mine, if you don't mind. :3

Shanna and I actually talked about her doing a Pathfinder novel a while ago, but then MCG just kept getting bigger and now 150% of her time is spent on that. :)

If she's a great SciFi/Fantasy writer, then it sounds like she should be on the list of authors for Starfinder Tales novels, too. ;)

Mentioned on another thread, in the future of Paizo seminar, I asked about the Tales line. Erik Mona said he's going to be talking with publishers at the NY Book Expo (this week I believe) and that they have 6 or so books ready to go, but with the switch in publishers, don't expect any new ones until 2018.

Also, even if things go amazingly well at Book Expo, don't expect to hear anything for a while. Negotiations like this take time, and we're not going to be able to talk about any of it until a deal is done.

Even for the books under the old contract that just didn't get audiobooks up yet?

Those we're still trying to get sorted. (Things have been a little bonkers around here recently with all the Starfinder prep!)

I agree with this. It would be nice to know which web fiction and short fiction correlates to which novel(s). And having them in an anthology would make them more accessible. I mean, they're easy enough to get online, true, but a collection of them would make them easier to find/read.

It sucks to hear this news, I have been loving the Pathfinder Tales - they are actually the reason I wanted to get into the RPG. A lot of people are saying they want to go back to smaller format on the books, but I very much prefer the Trade a Paperback format. I would choose trade over mass market every single time if they were side by side options (even if trade was more expensive). Just my two coppers.

Me too. Well, technically I played the RPG first, but I only played it twice, then the group I was gaming with fell apart (drama). The Forgotten Realms novel line has ended for the foreseeable future, so I decided to start reading Pathfinder Tales. It's sad to hear this novel line is facing issues, too. But so long as there is there the promise of more novels once negotiations are met, I can wait til 2018. I have plenty to read within and outside PT. But I hope to see more soon.

I'm starting to wonder if they should start doing trilogies like Tsr and then Wotc did with Drizzt and Dragonlance novels. When I began reading they were relatively new novels. I bought part one eagerly awaited part two then three. The format I recommend using is mass market. Trade is not the way to go. I have a fellow gamer who worked in a bookstore and as soon as a author goes from mass market to trade it alienates certain members of the fanbase.

Seeing the larger expensive size as nothing more than a money grab. As a example she noticed that once the 40K Horus Heresy novels went to trade format sales in store dropped significantly. In the smaller format they were almost guaranteed to sell out. With trade they either buy it used, borrow the book from a friend or worse give the money to Amazon.

I hope whatever issues they have with the novels is settled asap as with the lack of novels being released by Wotc the Pathfinder tales book were my replacement.

The Thing From Another World wrote:

Same here. It's bad enough there aren't anymore FR novels for the forseeable future. Now there are complications with PF Talws, too :(

Liberty's Edge

I just want to throw in my very strong feelings, like I did last time there was a format change for Pathfinder Tales. To me, it's essential that the ebooks are *not* DRM encumbered. I do my best to avoid buying DRM-encumbered ebooks. (Sometimes, if I really need it for work, I buy it and strip the DRM. But, I don't want to pay to support anything that would use DRM.) For myself, I'm not likely to buy many (any?) of the Pathfinder Tales physical books, unless I find them at a used bookstore-- and even then, I'd be selective. If they aren't DRM encumbered, I'll buy the ebooks; I've bought all of them to date that way, with the exception of one that I got in swag at PaizoCon 2013. (More recently, if I get them in swag, I've already read the ebook, so I give them away to other folks at the con who haven't read them.)

If they are DRM encumbered, I won't buy the ebooks, and I will also be very very sad that Paizo went that way.

What happened to the FR line of Novels?

Listening to the podcasts from Paizocon, apparently they have 6 novels written and are just waiting for the right publisher/deal.

Gods I hope that's another Torius Vin novel. They're my favourite of the line, along with Alaeron and Rodrick

Meanwhile, I'm hoping for another Isiem installment. Or something else set in Nidal (which surprises absolutely no one at this point).

As of now, there are no new FR novels in the works. I don't want to say the line has ended, as WotC could change their mind, but it's "on hold", so to speak.

James, just another vote from someone who wants to see Pathfinder Tales resume! I don't care what format, though the trade paperback price was too high. I wouldn't mind seeing Planet Stories make a comeback either. :)

So I was checking my subscription page to see how expensive August is going to be and if I could add the SF GM Screen and the SF Character folio to my order (I can just barely...) when I scrolled down to see what was next for my various subscriptions. When I got to the Tales area ?I was surprise to see...a next...Pathfinder Tales: Pirate's Curse~ January 2018.

I do not know if this means anything....
