Mounatins of Madness and Marshes of Malice, the successors to Dunes of Desolation and Fields of Blood are now available on Kickstarter.

I stink at links so if this doesn't work hopefully a more tech savvy fan can help.

Link fixed

I've ready jumped in (backer 17) as I love that product line.

Two new books in a series that has so far managed to get on my Top Ten with each single installment? Absolutely frickin' worth it. Dunes and Fields are superb and I can't wait to see these two.

Here is part of the Introduction:

Perilous Vistas

The latest additions to the Perilous Vistas: Mountains of Madness and Marshes of Malice are environment sourcebooks that delve into the foreboding mountains and explore the mysterious wetlands respectively.

The Perilous Vistas line brings the great outdoors to life. Like their predecessors, the highly acclaimed Dunes of Desolation and Fields of Blood, Mountains of Madness and Marshes of Malice are black and white, 225+ page supplements that build upon real world details and their gaming applications to provide all of the essentials and extras to run campaigns set in one of these remarkable biomes.

These huge Tomes are all well-researched and use real-world information tailored to meet fantasy roleplaying rules that create a feel of "really being there" in each terrain type. For example, we engaged a professional mountain guide, Nate Paul, to work with us on Mountains--so the travel and skill rules were in part developed by a real-life mountaineer!

I have a high bat to live up to there. Rest assured I always try to improve with each offering.

Thanks for your support and fixing my crummy link. I need to learn how to do that one of these days.

It's my pleasure.

For the link the trick is this (simply remove the superflous space after both opening square bracket) [ url=insert address here]Text[ /url]

Tom, that's what you have a Herald Frog for.

I've promoted the Kickstarter in the RPG Kickstarter News group on Facebook. It has 3,690 members, so hopefully that can generate some traffic from Facebook. :)

I totally missed this. Pledged

Given their poor performance on the Blight my confidence in FGG's ability to put out a kickstarter is pretty low. Not willing to back another kickstarter that might take 4 times as long as they say to actually be released.

I have backed everyone of their kickstarters, everyone single one they have finished and with amazing products.

You will miss out on great products if the lateness of blight is your only experience and you decide you are done there.

That said, they have many other products already on print if you don't want to support a kickstarter.

I understand your feelings on The Blight. It turned out to be a much bigger monster than expected. These two books are completely done so they are a much different animal than The Blight. The same goes for the add ons.

Liberty's Edge

Hmmm ...

FYI, that link does not actually go to the Kickstarter ...

Here is the proper link.

I posted a link on another thread a few minutes before Tom did this one. But because everyone is using his I asked that mine be removed.

What I like about FGG (besides they make fantastic products) is that most of the work is already done before the kickstarter. I understand the Blight is behind, but a lot of kickstarters get behind. I watch people who plan to use something that has not been produced yet, and then it is behind they get very upset. I never plan to use something until it arrives personally.

I have backed every FGG kickstarter, and they usually come out quickly next to other kickstarters. 6 years or ago or something I paid into a kickstarter with a small company for a monster book. They had not done any work at all until the kickstarter was done. I doubt at this stage I will ever see that book, and don't get me started on Throne of Night, which I also doubt will see the light of day at this stage.

This is why I like the Frogs. They have the product essentially written when they do the kickstarter. Now if Richard Pett delivers them a full set of encyclopedias that has not been developed yet, and needs editing, layout and such; and the main book cannot be done until other parts are finished, well then (even though written) that one might take a little longer than anticipated.

As Tom has said, these are written and will likely need layout and such, and I will always support the Frogs in eveything they do.

And if you ever get the chance sit down and talk to Greg, or Skeeter, or Bill. I happen to live close to the main pond, and when Tsar came out I went there to pick up. I was graciously welcomed, we had a nice talk, Greg offered to sign my book, and Bill served me some BBQ'd salmon. I really enjoyed meeting them, and talking with them. They are a class act.

Thanks for the kudos. These are done and need only layout. There's also no bloat in terms of added products. It's a pretty streamlined KS.

The fact that they only need layout is actually sort of troubling. That puts them in the exact same phase as the blight in terms of development and means they will be using the same personnel resources.

Either these are going to get delayed while the blight is finished or the blight is going to get delayed while resources are diverted to these.

We are close to 8K so keep spreading the news. These two products represent two years of work for me so I'm so excited to see them come to life.

There are design and editing going on the Blight, so it's not the exact same phase at all:

Update 71

"I hope to have the Player's Handbook (which makes up a significant portion of the first part of the big book as well) over to editing and conversion by then or around that time frame, and the player's gazetteer more or less ready to go as well. Then I'll be turning to the GM Guide and adventures."

*Rubs chin* I'm not worried, myself, since I have no fears at all that FGG will deliver... but it wouldn't be a bad idea to explain to their audience how their resources are allocated, what the current schedule for things is, and roughly when they expect to be done with each one.

I will probably pledge but I have a question. On the stretch goal at $40 K does that mean if we pledged for one or more books we get Dead Man's Chest for free?

I don't think so.

I read it that, if we hit 40k, Dead Man's Chest will be printed and made available a both a physical and digital add-on exactly like Dunes of Desolation and Fields of Blood.

At the moment it can only be taken as a digital add-on, whereas the 2 other book are currently available as physical and digital add-ons.

@Saint Bernard - no, you would still have to pay for Dead Man's Chest as an add-on. Right now it is a $10 add-on for PDF since Dead Man's Chest has never been printed. Should the $40k stretch goal be met there will be an opportunity to get that in print. Now as far as what the cost of the print add-on will be, I couldn't say, but it will definitely come with a PDF with it since all FGG dead tree folios come with free PDF versions.

Does that help?

Zhern and Andre are correct about Dead Man's Chest. Bill is mulling some other stretch goals, but I don't know what they are. Hopefully that answers the question.

Thank you for the clarification. Dead Man's Chest is worthy of being printed. I an a huge fan of this series.

Dead's man chest was printed as a 3.5 book, and updated a couple of years ago, as PDF only, when the earlier environment books were published - and that version was not published in hardcover. I have the original book... I have been asking for the Pathfinder version to be printed since it came out.

So, let's do that $40K.

There is almost no overlap on project teams. The Blight is Greg's baby. The only overlap is editing and conversion folks, and they are not bottlenecked. Greg just had a tougher semester of med school than we figured, and the book was much bigger. So were the adventures.

We will get there. 14 kickstarters, delivered 11, 5 were late, 3 were early, 3 are still in prgress. The Blight is one of those.

Quick question: I've backed this, but I'd like to get in on the mentioned add ons for the previous environment books. I couldn't figure out a way of doing that. Is that a post-KS thing?

Just increase the amount of your pledge by the amount of the book(s) you want. And after the KS in the survey indicate where the Extra money went.

For exemple lets say you pledge at the 25$ level and want to add on a book costing 10$. You go to your "Manage my pledge" button and increase the amount to 35$ (but do not change the pledge level). This holds true for pretty much every kickstarter (especially if they do not used a pledge manager like backerkit).

Pledged for both books. Hopefully we make the $20,000 goal.

Thanks for the support. We're 55% funded in five days, so we're cautiously optimistic that we're going to exceed our funding goal by a pretty healthy margin. We'll be posting another update tomorrow evening or Monday with some sneak peeks at three of the adventures.

We're now at over 200 backers and nearly 60% funded in a week. There's also another update too giving a quick look at the three adventures in Marshes of Malice.

Last night was an interview by Undead Viking of Tom Knauss, John Ling, Zach Glazer, and Greg Vaughn of Frog God Games.

Bump - 15 days to go.

I will probably pick this up if/when it is printed but I am not backing anymore kickstarters until the blight is done.

This was just posted yesterday.

Hey All!

This is Zach from Frog God. This project has been moving along nicely but we would like to see it ramped up and Bill would like to see you have some more stuff. Thus we have some new bonuses, add-ons, and books available.

First is something everyone will get FREE at funding, followed by a couple new add-ons...

Glades of Death Bonus

A Druid's Revenge Can your PCs make it through the forest on the way to their final destination? Will they be ensnarled in the mystery of dreaded ghoul wolves, or become entangled in a battle between druids and insects that is slowly destroying a small logging village in their way? Are your PCs strong enough to enter the Canyons of Arcuri? Perhaps, they are even bold enough to enter the private, forested demiplane of the mad druid Niavark. Read the Leaves Make PCs fear the forest! Glades of Death™ contains new spells, new feats, and a new look at skills and how to use them in the wilderness. Guidelines for the rapid creation of new fantasy forests are also provided along with new monsters and four generic forest-based adventures designed to help bring a campaign out of the dungeon and into the wilderness.

Stoneheart Valley

$13 Hardcover+PDF/$10 PDF

During the kickstarter we are having a special price for Stoneheart Valley. Hardcovers are $13 with your pledge (coming, as all of our books do, with the PDF). The PDF alone is also reduced to $10 for Kickstarter backers.

From Bill Webb and Clark Peterson's home campaign comes the old-school setting of The Lost Lands: Stoneheart Valley. For over a decade, fans of Necromancer Games and Frog God Games have been asking to see the world behind the adventures. And at long last, here is where it all began, in the Stoneheart Valley near the town of Fairhill. This mini-campaign was originally presented to the fans of Necromancer Games in three separate modules: "The Wizard's Amulet", "The Crucible of Freya", and "The Tomb of Abysthor". Frog God Games has taken the full series from the 3E version plus supplemental material previously available only online, and converted it all to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game system.

Dead Man's Chest for Pathfinder Softcover

$28 Softcover*+PDF/ $8 PDF

A Treasury of Nautical Lore No place offers more adventure than the ocean. No dungeon is as deep, no jungle as full of exotic and dangerous life. Most folk spend their entire lives on dry ground, unaware that entire civilizations thrive beneath the waves, sometimes far more ancient and steeped in mystery than any on the world's upper surface.

Though player characters (PCs) have long grown familiar with the air-breathing world above, seldom do they venture into the depths, and when they do, they discover wonders they never dreamed exisited. The ocean offers a venue for adventure that is at once alien and appealing. Strange things exist down there, as perilous as they are compelling. Maritime Adventures Dead Man's Chest lays bare the ocean and the creatures that inhabit it. Within these pages are detailed rules for ship movement, as well as guidelines for underwater exploration, and three complete maritime adventures. At last there is a comprehensive source for sailing and the sea-packed with over 100 new magic items, monsters, feats, prestige classes, and spells.

-

So go forth and add these wonders to your pledges (along with Fields of Blood and Dunes of Desolation) and lets get us past funding and into some stretch goals (we have some more planned, we talked about them all weekend :) ).

Zach, Frog God Games

*at $40k it becomes a hardcover at the same price

This KS is interesting for the 2 books that I think will be realy good and also for the possibility to get a great deal for older 5-stars hard covers.

Don't miss it!

Greetings!

The funding is beginning to pick up speed and I have been authorized by the head frog himself to announce some Stretch Goals.

Before I do I want to remind everyone that at funding every one gets a FREE copy of Glades of Death AND the option for a first ever physical printing of Dead Man's Chest for Pathfinder becomes available as an add-on for $28 (Hardcover will be the same price if we reach $40k.

We do not want to add any other printed content since we are committed to not slowing down project delivery. So, in the spirit of the project, at ...

22K Pre-release preview of the next Perilous Vistas content (likely frozen). This will be laid out in PDF form and available following the shipping of physical rewards.

26K every backer will get a FREE copy of the Mother of All Encounter Tables.

One Table to Rule Them All! The Mother of All Encounter Tables is here! This utility is unlike any before conceived! This is not just a random book of tables, but a well thought out DM utility that will make wilderness travel, city streets and dungeon corridors all more interesting. It contains encounters for each terrain type from mountains to the ocean, in each climate from arctic to tropical, and has separate tables for day and night encounters. Also factored in are relative rarities of individual encounters, with space left for the DM to insert new monsters of his choosing. In addition to encounters with monsters and men, there are tables for unusual weather events, strange occurrences, accidents, and encounters with NPCs. Trade routes and caravans are detailed as well as trolls and dragons. After all, you never know when ants will infest your food, or when the cleric will get struck by lightning!

Well 5 days to do and 800$ left to get it financed.

We are under 750 to funding and 2750 until Icebound exclusive sneak peek.

2 people marked this as a favorite.

Is now funded! The first stretch goal at $22,000 is a sneak peek backers only exclusive look at the next book in the Perilous Vistas series called Icebound. You'll get a glimpse at the nuts and bolts of polar biomes as well as some of the obstacles that face polar travelers. I'm also thinking about adding in a new hazard that can also be applied to Mountains of Madness, glacial lake outburst floods.
