Deity and Faction Choice Options for a Tengu Rogue

Pathfinder Society

I am trying to choose both a deity and a faction. for my Tengu Unchained rogue that is at least slightly thematic, not terribly concerned about religion traits as there are plenty of other traits that interest me more. Part of this character's motivations is to prove that not all Tengu are "scavengers and irrepressible thieves" and that some that turn to the life of the rogue can do so for something other than greed.

So what are your opinions on possible faction choices and Deities for this character? the obvious faction choice given the Tengu history of being enslaved would be liberty's edge but I am not so sure i want to go with that obvious choice... I need help. Please :)

Zohls emyreal lord of investigators and spies.

Sovreign court is trying to put together an Illuminati
Silver crusade would show you're a do gooder.

A possibility for an upstanding tengu who has heard of the Pathfinders from far Avistan and wants to help is to be from the Grand Lodge faction and worship Desna or another exploration god.

The Grand Lodge is all about upholding the ideals of Pathfinders (explore, report, cooperate) and doing so through the structure of the Society. (Loyalty to the Decemvirate is the key to the faction.)

As far as being a rogue, you don't buy masterwork thieve's tools, you buy a professional locksmith's set. You don't break and enter so much as provide access to archaeological discoveries of importance. It's all in the mindset of how you see things.

Other factions (Dark Archives for archaeology) and gods could certainly apply.

The Exchange 3/5

My Tengu Slayer was adopted by Varisians who were part of the Scarni. He looks to Erastil for guidance as that's a deity that overlooks community and the Scarni are all one big family.

Mine is a worshipper of The Lantern King and fits in fine with the Exchange.

Through my worship of Alseta, I have seen the benefit of peaceful and planned transitions. Accept that a transition has occurred, and then work to make sure it has minimal negative impact on the community. Stagnation is not a virtue.

I have trained as a scout, often for caravans. Being able to find ambushes and deactivate any traps that may be a part of them is an important part of that work.

I picked The Exchange because of a merchantle background. Some members of The Exchange are honest merchants looking for a fair exchange of goods. There are plenty of other ways it could be done. Note the alignment of this character.

For Factions, pretty much any of them could fit:

Liberty's Edge: Let Freedom Reign. Freedom for the people of Kwanlai and their families!

Dark Archive: By finding the dark and hidden things, one can better prepare for the eventuality that one's people might find such things, and be better equipped to handle it. Also, by turning over the artifacts to the Archive, it proves that it's not a selfish endeavor.

Sovereign Court: The feudalistic societies of the Inner Sea Region, while not as stable as say the Empire of Lung Wa or any of the other 'Great' Dragon Empires, are still far more stable than what passes for a government in Kwanlai. By learning from their example and building a network of favors and friends, perhaps your character can build something greater back home?

Grand Lodge: They have the information and the relics. Perhaps they have somewhere in the files history of nation-states that failed or succeeded that could be useful?

The Exchange: It's about jobs. If the Exchange knows they can rely on tengu to do the work, then in turn they might feel motivated to expand their mercantile interests eastwards. With more employment, more money. With more money, more work can be done to solidify the nation of Kwanlai.

Scarab Sages: Their mission statement 'Learn from the past to prepare for the future' would fit right on in with someone trying to 'make things better' for their people.

That's just at a moment's glance..

Silver Crusade 1/5

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I have two Tengu.

Tooth & Claw is a divine verminous Hunter. He follows Achaekek and is a member of the Sovereign Court. Achaekek supports the divine right to rule, so Tooth & Claw tries to reinforce that principle through the faction.

Malachi Malarkey is a pirate. He worships Besmara and is a member of the Exchange (albeit he is closer to the Trade Prince than the Sczarni).

Andoletta is a good fit for your rogue I think.

While all intriguing options you all have helped me think even further outside the box: My Tengu Unchained Rogue Has turned his faith to Sarenrae, and has joined the Silver Crusade.

Silver Crusade 4/5

Not a tengu, but I have a Sarenrae worshiping rogue, too. He's in Liberty's Edge, though.
