Using Delayed Consumption when paralized?

Rules Questions

Delayed Consumption At any point during the duration of this extract, you can cause the companion extract to take effect as an immediate action.

I wanted to use this extract of Freedom of Movement as immediate action when a character got paralized, but our GM dasagreed. The point is "can cause the companion extract to take effect as an immediate action" is not defined wheather or not it takes any movement, hense it's up to gm to decide.

Is there any rule that says if immediate action or Delayed Comsumption can be used while paralized?

Seems like the activation would be a purely mental action, and therefore should be able to be used while under the effect of paralysis.

Paralysis:
A paralyzed character cannot move, speak, or take any physical action. He is rooted to the spot, frozen and helpless. Not even friends can move his limbs. He may take purely mental actions, such as casting a spell with no components.

That's the point. It doesn't say if causing the spell to take effect is a mental action.

Sovereign Court

It also doesn't say any physical movement is required. It has no somatic components, you don't have to hit anyone - why would it not work?

Liberty's Edge

As a GM i would require the player to voluntarily swallow to activate the delayed extract, but there is no real clue in the spell description about it being a mental action or not.

It say:

"Components S"
so it has a somatic component. But that applies when you "cast" it.

"immediate action when a character got paralized"

The immediate action resolves before the action that triggers it resolves. Otherwise any number of other spells would fail (like Emergency Force Sphere).
It works.

Inventing rules?

Immediate actions resolve when you take them or depending on the ability you are using, when the ability specify it. If the situation permit you to take an immediate action before something is resolved, good. If the immediate action itself say that it than be used before something is resolved, good. But there is no general rule that say that immediate actions are resolved before something happen.

To use emergency force sphere to block an attack you should cast it before the attack is rolled. you can't cast it as an "interrupt" to stop it.

Might be confusing with Magic The Gathering.

Timing is the key, though. If you are being hit by a spell you know will paralyze you, you trigger before the spell lands.
