Clarification request: Gnomes of Golarion traits

Pathfinder Player Companion

Gnomes of Golarion sourcebook lists the new traits in combat, faith, magic, and social categories. However, it also states:

"Although the traits presented below are broken
into several different categories, all are considered
gnome racial traits."

Does this mean that they are combat/faith/magic/social traits, or are they race traits, or are they both?

I have a character with the Excitable trait as well as a race trait in Hero Lab, and they recently changed it so that Excitable is considered combat/racial/gnome (it used to be listed as combat/gnome), so it now conflicts with my other trait.

Thanks for any insight!

Excitable counts as both a racial trait and a combat trait. Ask your Gm to clarify any potential conflicts.

they're racial traits - not race traits - presumably that means that only a gnome can pick them but they're in the other categories

Ok. Please explain the difference between "racial traits" and "race traits".

And are you saying that Excitable, frex, is a combat trait, and not any other classification of traits?

'Racial trait' and 'race trait' is a messy wording in general.

Racial traits are all the properties you gain by chosing a race, e.g. ability score modification, size, skill bonuses etc. - as printed in the Core Rulebook or Advanced Race Guide. They provide racial bonuses.

Race traits are a group of traits that are reserved to a certain race. Picking a race doesn't give a race trait, but you can chose one. It gives you a trait bonus.

Now the traits in Gnomes of Golarion are neither. They are combat traits, fait traits, magic traits or social traits. Hence they also hand out trait bonuses, but you can combine one of them with a race trait. The book uses 'racial trait' as a confusing wording to say: These traits are gnome specific, no other race can take them.

Yeah, what he said. The nomenclature is very murky to say the least.
