Taking prisoners etc.

Curse of the Crimson Throne

So in the first session, I have a Paladin of Shelyn(trying to clean up the streets of drug pushers), a wizard who is part of the Korvosan Guard(a by the book LG type), a Brawler and a bard.
The saved all the orphans and dealt non lethal damage to all the other enemies. So now they are dragging them around the city. We stopped after looting Gaedren.

A.) what would be the process for booking the criminals? My vision of them is part army, part cops.
B.) zellara wanted them to kill Gaedren and bring him to justice, due to feeling that the guard is inept. As a haunt/ghost, how should she react?
C.) I'd like Gaedren to escape to either Barvasi or more likely Pilts Swastel. In part to show how the guard can drag its feet. But I don't want to be a dick about how they should just kill people to avoid this same scenario again. I'd like to play on the line of how far someone should go for Justice. Especially with the paladin.

Any help is appreciated

Considering that Wizard is a guard, they should drag Graeden and his goons to a cozy common cell in Citadel Volshnyek. Korvosa is a decent civilized city, with laws and even Judges to declare sentences. Therefore, being a small cog in the system, they should only catch and lock criminals for superiors to decide what to do with them.

Korvosa, by the way, has so called Vice Taxes, which enables for criminals to get better sentences in exchange for monthly payment of their "profit" to Cerulean Society (which is a legal and official thief guild). That said, if someone doesn't pay, as he should by city law, he will suffer fully for his crimes.

She should ask Wizard and others to see that Graeden gets sentenced. Even make paladin swear and oath. Tempting a representative of law enforcement and a Paladin to kill a prisoner isn't the best course of action for her.

Well, it's your call, but I just left him rotting in Longacres dungeon cell. Graedens role is to be a problem for party to bond together around and overcome it in the start of AP, nothing more. Rolth was, and is now (in my opinion), a better character for being a recurring villain.

Finding Graeden latter, by the way, all broken and bragging for death in the cell, may be more dramatic and fulfilling.

My players still do from time to time ask me about Lamms fate (they too took him alive, and many others). And I do thing they would be happy to see what happened to him. Alternatively, I'll just keep him alive till the end of AP, so they could end it in a full circle, by seeing him getting sentenced (to death).

Personally, I'd be thrilled for a little less base murder in my games.

My party took Lamm alive and turned him over to Citadel Volshyenek. My recollection was Zellara wanted justice, and she didn't feel the guard would go capture Lamm. She was perfectly happy to have the law actually prosecute him once the party captured him. I made sure the Harrow showed the party would be deciding the future of Korvosa, for good and ill. I'm thrilled every time they make the actual good choice, instead of the easy choice.

That said, I've taken this opportunity to make Lamm a much more active part of the game. The party just escorted Lamm and other prisoners from Volshyenek to the Longacre Building. Rolth organized a jailbreak which the party managed to stop, so Lamm make it to Longacre where he'll be tried and executed, barring intervention. I imagine his final fate will be found in Rolth's lair, since we all know how secure Longacre is.

I've been considering how to handle this with my own group. They captured Lamm and Giggles and turned them over to the guard. So far, in fact, they have been pretty gung-ho about being members of the guard.

My idea is

Later On:
Gaedren will indeed be imprisoned under Longacre pending a proper execution but when the Grey Maidens and the Red Mantis infiltrate the prison at the Queen's orders they release him under Rolth's suggestion.

I've toyed with the idea of maybe having them hit him with a regeneration or something to cure his wound and sending him to act as the 'adviser' to Pilts Swastel. It would be a shadowplay that the Queen is playing against the Arkona's to destabilize and keep them busy in Old Korvosa while she takes care of Korvosa proper / ultimately sweeps in and uses a scorched earth policy on the district.

I guess the immediate problem once they discover him there is that they will become immediately suspicious of Longacre Hall.
