This week, PAX announced a new convention: PAX Unplugged. Unlike other PAX conventions, which have been about video games and tabletop games, PAX Unplugged is focused exclusively on tabletop gaming. Scheduled for November 17-19 in Philadelphia, PA, this will probably be the best chance I have at going to a mid to larger size convention for the foreseeable future. I'd love to know if Paizo has any plans to be an exhibitor or have a presence there (since I'd love to play some adventure card guild organized play).
I've never been to Gencon, Origins, Paizocon, PAX (of any type) or most other conventions. So, I'm hoping this could be a good chance for me to experience some of that.
It might be too early for Paizo to comment, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask.
*I had a really hard time figuring out the best forum to put this in. If there is a better one than this, please move this there. Thanks.

Five hour drive for me.... I'm guessing several folks from the Pittsburgh area PFS will go to this. Whether or not I go will depend on how expensive the con and hotels turn out to be.
Edit: Yoiks. Quick look suggests hotels will probably be even more expensive than PaizoCon Seattle hotels.

Exact details on organized play haven't been released, but Paizo will have a significant presence there including organized play.

At the moment, availability of 3-day passes is low, but all of the one day passes appear to be green/available at the Pax Unplugged site. I am still planning on a single day visit if this convention doesn't sell out.

Paizo has a booth presence planned for PAX Unplugged, with demos of Starfinder, Pathfinder, and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. We are working to put the final details on the what, when, where, who, how and will that posted asap!
How about plans for organized PFS events?
I have attended events and Redcap's Corner and they had a nice following so I know the interest is there. For a lot of the younger crowd, who can't make it out to GenCon, this would provide a perfect opportunity to play at a large event.

So... any information that folks can share? I might be able to run a scenario or two if there was a desire for more GMing, and would like to play if there's slots that don't conflict with Doomtown events, but there seems to be a dearth of information available thus far... .

They pulled out of PAX West because they thought that PAX Unplugged would be a better use of their official presence. PAX East's Pathfinder presence has always been run by Lucas Servideo and not by Paizo itself. I wouldn't expect PAX East to change based off of PAX Unplugged's existence.

Quite a bummer since Unplugged is on the opposite side of the country from West. West has basically been abandoned by the TTRPG companies, which is a serious bummer since it was one of the few conventions that could actually draw gamers from disparate groups. Now that it's mainly just for video games it's lost a lot of the appeal that made it interesting.

Hey Iammars, I wanted to let you know the true reasoning behind why we were not exhibitors at PAX West this year. We weren't because with the current options available to us, we felt that our conversion percentage compared to the costs for the show just weren't favorable enough to keep exhibiting.
As an aside, we had decided to exhibit at PAX Unplugged way before we "pulled out" of PAX West. There hasn't been a major gaming convention in that part of the country for years and we felt exhibiting there would give us a terrific venue to connect with the NE fans. So while I can understand how folks are coming to this conclusion, it is not correct.

Huh. Must've heard a bad rumor. Thanks for the info!

Hopefully then we'll hear word of what's going on soon...?
Hey MrBear, that's easy! We will have a demo booth focusing on Starfinder with some Pathfinder as well. The slate of Paizo employees for PAX Unplugged is Erik Mona, Jason Bulmahn, Tonya Woldridge, Cosmo Eisele, Dan Tharp, and myself.
If you're at the show, please do swing over to the exhibit hall and say HI.

I've just started getting into Organized Play (both Pathfinder and Starfinder), so I'm really hoping there will be some at PAX.
Unfortunately no, there will not be any organized play component for Pathfinder or Starfinder at PAX Unplugged this year. With it being the show's first year and our first time in their facility, we decided to come in small, get our feet under ourselves and get to know the facility, and decide how best to grow our presence for future years.

Does this preclude individual gms from running pick up games of PFS/SFS?

Well that's extremely disappointing, I had been led to believe otherwise.

Absolutely not, you can run your own games anywhere, anytime!

Well that is extremely unfortunate. :(

Traditionally the PAX shows aren't set up to offer free space to run OP events and the pay-to-play space they tend to have is quite expensive. Plus the show wasn't even advertised until way after (like months and months after) we had closed our budget cycle for 2017 so it made it very difficult for us to have OP. That and without really seeing the space first, there's no way for us to know which available spaces are best for us to use for OP.
Believe me that we understand how disappointed our fans are that we aren't able to offer OP at this show this year...we are as well. But we will be scouting it out and budgeting for space for future years (if possible)

Sorry everyone, I misspoke here. I got my cons mixed up and unfortunately Jason will not be joining us for PAX Unplugged but the rest is still accurate.

At the booth, we will run Starfinder Quest: Into the Unknown, Pathfinder Quest: House of Harmonious Wisdom and Pathfinder Adventure Card Game: Mummy's Mask.
All of these are designed as 1 hour demonstration games to give the most people opportunity to play. As with Gen Con, players are welcome to come back and do more than one slot, based on space available.
The disappointment posted on this boards led to discussions between involved parties and has resulted in Venture-Captain Benn being given a few tables for full scenario play. He will be setting up a warhorn page soon.

Note to self: Don't use "Starfinder Quest: Into the Unknown" in my home Starfinder game since about half of my group will probably attend that convention and want to get into that demo.
To Tonya: I am looking forward to meeting you all on that Sunday afternoon.

Hey everyone!
The Philadelphia Pathfinder Society Lodge contacted PFS HQ and the PAX Unplugged team after seeing the many threads on the question of PFS at PAX Unplugged, and we managed to scrounge together a few tables of events for attendees! (Don't thank me, I'm just the messanger: Venture-Captain Benn Roe and soon-to-be-Venture-Agent Robyn Allen did all of the real work putting this together.)
I don't quite know all of the details, but from what I understand PAX is putting a lot of pressure on Benn and Robyn to make sure we have games at all of the tables they've given us, so if you sign up for something the team REALLY needs you to make sure that you show up to your table on time!
If you have any questions and you're on Facebook, you can either PM them t me here, or send them to me on our Facebook Group and I'll do everything I can to get you any additional information that you're looking for.
Thanks!
