Pathfinder / Overwatch Characters

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

While browsing YouTube videos I stumbled upon a funny compilation of someone playing Winston from Overwatch. The phrase "I'm not a monkey" get's used and suddenly the idea to play a Vanara Alchemist/Master Chemist using lightning bombs and a large form popped into my head.

Has anyone else thought of making Pathfinder characters based off Overwatch? I'd love to hear about them.

Dana Song is a young woman from the upper peninsula of Minkai, near the Forest of Spirits.

Always taught to be conscious of the spirits that share the world, she wasn't too surprised when she started hearing one speak with her. What was a little more surprising was when she finally met the spirit, following months of magical instruction it provided, was that it turned out to be a being of the upper planes rather than a local kami.

Forging her connection with the deva, Dana has made it a mission to protect others. Despite her young age, she has become quite well known for her missions against the Oni and Hobgoblins of Tian Xia.

D.Va is a Synthesist Summoner, who can call and wear a Monadic Deva as a suit of celestial armor.

Mei's family are Tian-Shu ethnic minorities in Hongal.

Having fled their homes in Wanshou following the collapse of Lung Wa. Making their living following the dangerous Path of Aganhei trade route over the Crown of the World. Mei has always been fascinated with the beauty of the northern ice fields, and has studied much of the natural flora, fauna, and geography; as well as becoming proficient with ice magics.

Mei is a Winter Witch with the Winter patron. She has an Owl familiar named Snowball.

McRee is a gunslinger.

You're already done. That's it. Nothing else needs to be said.

After helping my sister with a silly one-shot that didn't get finished, and so needed more stuff, I have made stats for (all at effective lvl 6, 2d6+6 rolled stats, pretty random gear)

  • McCree, as Mysterious Stranger Gunslinger
  • Winston, as an awakened gorilla with abjurationist levels
  • Sombra, as rogue/(impossible) Sorc/Arcane trickster
  • Rienhardt, as Phalanx Soldier/ Sacred Shield pally
  • Symmetra, as a conjurer (Engineer's workgloves as arcane bond)
  • Widowmaker, as a ranged slayer w/ sniper goggles (and racial heritage-drow for the spider climb SLA feat)

misc thoughts for others:

I've tried modelling Phara as an offensive caster paladin, but quickly became very reliant on arcane wands (fireball, fly, magic missile), upsetting the target balance, combined with the other gear.

I had some stupid idea about using improved TWF, throw anything, and a blinkback belt to have a Reaper that can actually dual-wield guns by throwing them before reloading, but haven't gone farther with that.

Spellslinger places no restrictions on source for spells, so spellslinger 1/cleric X with reach spell could concievably prepare a lot of inflict spells, swapping them for cures when needed, all while shooting them out of a gun. (concept reused from converting Xenoblade characters)

Junkrat is almost certainly a grenadier alchemist (learn ranger trap for snares?). Roadhog is probably a savage technologist.

For Zenyatta, I was considering the Int-based spellbook shaman archetype, the fortune and misfortune hexes, and magic stone as the main source of damage, but couldn't figure out Omnic racial traits.

I think Fire Kineticist could work well for Pharah. Flame Jet for her rocket pack and Explosive kinetic blasts for her rockets.

Keep thinking she needs at least a few paladin levels, though.

You were watching Dunkey, weren't you.

Pharah could be a Fire/Air Kineticist using Greater Flame Jet, Explosion, and Pushing Infusion to mimic her jetpack, rockets, and Concussive Blast abilities. Her ult, on the other hand, is harder to pull off since you can't combine stuff like Explosion and Flurry of Blasts. Any ideas on that?

my Caster pally model exploited that smite adds its damage to each individual magic missile, resulting in a primary stat to damage, unavoidable, 5+ times per round.

Reflavor an AoE blast?

This came up a while back, but only I bit for the challenge. I made Rein as a vigilante that stays in his social identity, even when he's doing vigilante things (the Tony Stark method, as it's called around here).

Mercy: Cleric, Life Oracle, or...?
Hanzo: Zen Archer Monk
Genji: Cyborg Weapon Adept Monk
Zarya: Techsligner Gunslinger
Lucio: Bard

RPG Superstar Season 9 Top 16

I'm designing a fantasy cyborg class that can easily make for a genji, complete with a deflect.

Life Oracle without a doubt. It's the most focused on really healing. Plus it's based on CHA which Mercy would have a lot of.

He's obviously an Android.

There's a third party class called Time Thief that might fit Tracer.

Really the problem is that almost everyone uses ranged weapons in Overwatch and PF has limited options to cover everyone while using ranged weapons.

I feel like Hanzo would be a bow-focused Eldritch Archer Magus. More opportunity for crazy dragon-arrows.

Omnic Racial traits: Medium Wyrwoods.

I mean, couldn't they just have proficiency and what not?

One could assume it's a "guns everywhere" setting, making firearms simple weapons.

Want about alignments?

You can't just theorize their class and archetypes without arguing about their alignments, now can we.

Lawful Good: Pharah, Tracer, Torbjorn, Reinhardt, Winston, Zarya
Neutral Good: Genji, Mei, D.VA, Ana, Mercy,Zenyatta
Chaotic Good: Solider 76, McCree, Hanzo, Lucio
Lawful Neutral: Symmetra
True Neutral: Bastion
Chaotic Neutral: Junkrat
Lawful Evil: Widowmaker
Neutral Evil: Reaper, Sombra
Chaotic Evil: Roadhog

Your list seems mostly good, but I would have Zenyatta as LG (from your NG, in case of monk levels), Sombra as CN (more than likely using Talon for information), and Junkrat as CE (Seems pretty intent on blowing people up).

Yes, yes we can.

I don't really think that is a problem. Yes, the majority of characters in Overwatch are ranged based. That is the nature of a world with guns.

But that doesn't mean every Overwatch-based PF character must be ranged based. Short ranged characters (like, say, Reaper and Roadhog) could be the basis for a more melee based PF character.

I think trying for 100% representation of the game character in PF is doomed to fail. Capturing the essence of the character is more likely to be successful.

The brothers Genji and Hanzo Shimada are from Shimada ninja clan in Minkai.

Genji was marked for death by his own family, and the killer was none other than his older brother, Hanzo.

Strange magics and technologies were able to save Genji, however, and his consciousness was transferred into a new artificial body.

Genji is an Android Ninja/Swashbuckler. (Those who prefer more magic could go Ninja/Bladebound Kensai Magus)

Following the apparent death of his brother by his own hand, Hanzo abandoned the Shimada clan and left Minkai, seeking to regain his honor.

Hanzo is a Human Ninja/Zen Archer Monk. (Those who prefer more magic could go Ninja/Eldritch Archer Magus)

Torbjorn is a from the Five Mountain Kingdom. He turned his talents early in life to the study of alchemy, and especially the building of alchemical constructs. He travels Avistan with his trusted mechanical boar, Turret.

Torbjorn is a Dwarf Construct Rider Alchemist

Lucio is a Human Arcane Healer / Sound Striker Bard with a special Variant Channel option which grants an Enhancement Bonus to affected creatures' speeds equal to 5' per channel dice rolled (up to +25'). He is from the remote colony of Sargava where the country's payments to the Free Captains of the Shackles have emptied their treasury. Lucio's tribe was hit especially hard with financial burdens and he resolved to try and improve their standing by entering the Sargava Chalice, a grueling annual footrace through Sargava intended to raise money and improve morale. Lucio did manage to win against the odds, but something he saw on the journey changed him and months later he joined and lead a group of rebellious tribesmen in an uprising against the Shackles pirates.

Lucio is still on the run from Free Captains looking for retribution and Sargavan officials frantically trying to protect their agreement with the pirates, but everywhere he goes he is known as a kindhearted liberator of the people. He recently performed a new song titled "Song of the Shackled", and although it has been officially banned many taverngoers are spreading rumors that the great Lucio will be travelling the country to perform personally.

I was considering recreating Tracer using a Pistolero Gunslinger and taking a few levels of Horizon Walker to get Dimension Door, then going along the Dimensional Assault feat chain to simulate her mobility.

Not quite sure what to use to simulate her ultimate, though. A rat wearing a Necklace of Fireballs tied to an Alchemist Fire seems a bit expensive. And evil. And using two guns at once? Maybe if advanced firearms are used for easier full attacks.

Symmetra could work as a Vudrani Human Alchemist with the Tinkerer archetype.

Reaper might be a Fetchling Ranger who archetyped into Dusk Stalker to represent his shadowbending abilities. I also suppose we can trade the shotguns for crossbows.

Roadhog is a very scary Ogrekin with levels in Vigilante and the Faceless Enforcer archetype.

And Bastion is just one of those Numerian war constructs that discovered that birds were neat. Which is a shameless ripoff of Android 16 from Dragonball Z but whatever.

Whatever indeed, I only have mechanics behind Ana because of how closely she resembles Sharla from Xenoblade

Regarding any TWF gun usage, the go-to option would probably be the +1 keen dart gun from Emerald Spire 16. It's a hand crossbow with an automatic clip of 20.

Maybe. Those are alien weapons and many of the details aren't really spelled out. It might not have a 'clip', or even be reloadable at all.

I think the problem I see here is because they are mostly range based it convinces a lot of people to optimize that area as much as possible, when really it doesn't have to be. Its pretty much everywhere, like how Gandalf uses a sword; it doesn't have to be optimized. This is why on most conversion threads you'll see tons of recommendations for using gestalt for nearly every attempt at converting a character from another source into Pathfinder.

Sometimes it's spot on though.
