Rune Magic Question.

Homebrew and House Rules

Hello Everyone I come to the Pathfinder community seeking knowledge.

Now the issue here it's the next:

About Rune Magic, in our campaign we get some special weapons and they have unique runes from ancient times, something like primordial runes, and no one can recreate such powerful words of magic.

The problem comes when we got the option to custom our weapons colors, since they were rolled for, and the process involves the weapons being covered with other metals/materials.

One of the players wants the weapon smith to cover the runes in such way they won't be visible, since they are engraved on the weapon's blade, because he don't want the word engraved to be read by everyone. Of course a good rune wizard or someone specialized on magic should be able to see through the trick.

Now:

First statement: If you cover the runes with the same material as the weapon they are engraved, isn't the very same but well, you're deforming the runes, as you were hitting them with a hammer and modify the scripture through raw strength; that will alter the magic and dispel it.

Second statement: If you cover the runes that won't alter them, it just hide the scripture, as they are being covered with a non magical material. You need a rune wizard, or an arcane/divine spellcaster, and make a proper spellcraft to banish the magic in the runes, if it were so simple to dispel rune magic then it will be worthless.

Now we have already read the Rune Magic rules on the webpage and there is no information about this issue, not directly... They say you need to use a Negation spell or a Dispel Magic, but there is nothing about what happens if you cover the runes in order to hide them.

A variation of the first statement is the next:

If you have a scroll with magic runes on it and you write something over the scroll, with non magical materials of course, and without being a spellcaster, the scroll is ruined and useless.

To give you all some additional information I will give you the next points:

1.- We already confirmed the runes doesn't need to be read in order to activate their magic, we already try and this was confirmed by the DM.

2.- We believe the cover of the runes with a mundane metal won't be enough to hide the magic from spellcasters, that's not the objective; the only point here is to make the weapon a flat blade for cosmetic purposes.

Please share your wisdom with us, and thanks to anyone who helps on this matter!

Are you asking about and proposing house rules?

Because as far as I'm aware, none of what you've said is covered anywhere in the rule books I'm familiar with. If it house rules, then you're actually in the wrong sub-forum, and your post should be flagged to be move to the house rules sub-forum.

EDIT: Sorry, you're right!

Just confirmed with the DM.

Is there a way to delete the post?... Can't find it...
