Hi all,
Apologies if this has been answered elsewhere--I did a quick search through the threads I found on The Confirmation and didn't find it. I just have a quick question about the options for completing the secondary success conditions...all to do with our friend the minotaur.
In the group I'm running right now, several stated that they were heeding Janira's advice and fleeing into the cave. The gunslinger was the first to choose otherwise, and when she attacked the minotaur, those who had gone into the cave returned to help her. Thanks to some great luck (the gunslinger's first attack was a confirmed crit--a one-in-a-very-low-number shot; also, the minotaur failed its Strength check to wade through the stream) they killed the minotaur without it even reaching them.
My question is two-fold: 1) I'm assuming that those PCs who initially listened to Janira fulfill that secondary success requirement even though they then returned to help a friend in need, correct? 2) Does slaying the minotaur at this venture preclude everyone from fulfilling the "rescuing Janira" condition at the end? Or do they all get it simply because she survived?
I'm feeling a little weird about that one, because sure they did prevent the minotaur from killing her...but then again, she was never in any danger, this play-through!
Thanks!

I'd say they all successfully"saved" Janira. She WAS in danger - not as grave as if they'd fought the minotaur later, but the danger was there.
Regarding heeding her advice I think your ruling is a good one. They saved the hotheaded gunslinger from his own recklessness which is preferable to letting him die "because we were supposed to run". Stand together, fall together.

It was a tough fight, and then Janira 'moped' outside of the cave because she knew we were right.
GM gave us full credit BECAUSE we highlighted the very tenets she was telling us to uphold.

Thanks for the responses, all!
A second question: given the above, the PCs never obtained Janira's backpack (since she normally throws it to them when they flee). Is there any guidance on whether the PCs gain access to the treasure from her backpack listed on their chronicle sheets?
I'm leaning toward yes, but...curious if there are other feelings.

I would assume that after the party takes care to the Minotaur and head inside, she would give them her backpack while she finished doing what she is doing outside.
She was sent to help them and I think she was planning on giving them all the stuff anyways. Why else would she spend time showing them the items and explaining that they do?
At least that is how I wold handle it.

If they are good enough to beat the minotaur without the wounds it would have had at the "proper time" to face it, they don't need her stuff.
