Sylvan Blooded Questions

Rules Questions

So I am looking to make a different kind of caster who rides on a mount and I think it would be awesome to have him fly around on a giant mantis. The Sylvan Blooded Sorcerer is able to gain an animal companion. Would he be able to take a Giant Mantis as a companion? Vermin companions are open to druids, but does that extend to other classes that can take an animal companion? Also, can the Blood Arcanist take the Sylvan Bloodline since it is a wildblood line? Thanks for your help!

There is no Sylvan bloodline. It's a feature of the wildblooded archetype, so at Anita can't choose it as a bloodline.

Unless the thing granting you an animal companion says you can choose any companion available to a Druid, you need to pick from the list.

Actually the blood arcanist should be able to choose the sylvan bloodline. Since he gets the arcana he can which EH and VCM can not.(no arcana, and the animal companion requires it)

BTW. it has been stated several times that wildblooded are allowed as bloodline. But as always confirm with your DM.

By RAW, Mr. Risner is correct. If you're playing in PFS, no dice.

That said, it won't hurt anything to allow it in a home game. If that's the situation, ask your GM. ^_^

he is talking about the sylvan wild blooded version of the Fey bloodline which grants an AC.

The wildblooded bloodlines are all archetypes and not available to the Blood Arcanist.

The way I look at it, the Wildblooded archetype modifies the Fey bloodline into the Sylvan bloodline. Your bloodline is still Fey, you've just taken an archetype that modifies its abilities. So an arcanist can't access Sylvan because an arcanist can't take the Wildblooded archetype.

That having been said, the Sylvan description doesn't place any restrictions on what can be chosen as an animal companion, but neither does it say that everything druids can choose is available, which makes it a gray area. Personally I'd allow a vermin companion for a Wildblooded Sylvan sorcerer, but it seems to be a GM's call.

Actually it never been stated as much. There may also be a FAQ stating the opposite.

In my games I allow all bloodlines to be taken, however if it's a Wildblooded bloodline it's considered rare and you better have a damn good story why you have that rarer version. Also, Sylvan would be the one that you still couldn't take, for the reasons stated in the FAQ... EH doesn't give you the bloodline arcana, therefore you can't get the animal companion.. however the blood arcanist as far as I know should be fine. Again, this is my games, I know it's not official.
