[Drop Dead Studios] Wizard's Academy and the Spheres of Power bestiary, released!

Product Discussion

After waaaaaay too long of a development timeline, Wizard's Academy is out!

Wizard's Academy was the other big Spheres of Power release we were working on; it's an adventure module with 8 possible villains and encounters designed for levels 1-20 for complete modular design. Also, it's coupled with over 120 pages of bestiary with both new monsters and old classics revamped to use the Spheres of Power system.

If you just want the bestiary and not the whole adventure, you can get that as well: Fantastical Creatures and How to Survive Them: A Student's Guide for Adventure and Study is available right now at RPG Drivethru, and here on Paizo as soon as the staff finishes clearing it.

IMO the bestiary book cover art is a underwhelming (minimalist if ok if done right, i.e. tome of horrors) and the name is a bit long (reminds me of japanese lite novel titles), would have preferred Spheres of Power: Beastiary.

I will wait for some reviews to see if I buy it.

Yeah, about that...

Man I wish this was a paper/hardback. It looks really cool and now there's an actual SoP adventure I could run for people. :)

They mentioned print copies of the bestiary in the adventure, so I think that's planned, at least...?

Liberty's Edge

Note that the adventure can work for 1-20, but it is not an adventure to go from 1 to 20 over its run. It is designed to be scaled for shorter or longer runs at various levels but isn't a full 1-20 adventure path. Most games will span 2-6 levels, depending on how you set it up.

Just to be clear this is just monster stat blocks and there's no advice for converting other monster SLAs and spellcasting to Spheres?

Yes, it is just stat-blocks.

The process for converting SLAs was really just deciding whether the monster was a Low, Mid, or High caster, then deciding which sphere abilities best matched their abilities; we tried to keep to 2+ caster level talents for each monster as much as possible. As for the cover of the bestiary alone, we did it that way because it's modeled after an in-world tome; Wizard's Academy actually has rules for looking monsters up in FANTASTICAL CREATURES AND HOW TO SURVIVE THEM if the players own a copy.

Print is in the works; it takes months to get print books printed and shipped to us, and backers have already waited a ridiculously long time to get their copies, so we decided to release the PDFs now.
