How to create a temporary hidden laboratory for experiements as a wizard?

Advice

Hi!

I am a wizard7/archmage2 in the wotr campaign. I want a place where I can create potions, talk to my imp (familiar) and do other things paladins usually do not like.

My first idea was to create a pit (create pit spell) underground and teleport into it. But the spell duration is just 1 round + 1 round/level so this is not an option.

Any ideas how I can accomplish this?

Have it be in two layers, the outer layer for guests and the inner layer for yourself. Drone on forever when anyone arrives, and you will soon find that no one stays longer than "can you do X or Y and Z?" to see anything in the inner layer, so this will become a non-issue.

At your current level... You could wait two levels and just use Mage's Private Sanctum. Until then, though... I don't know of any direct ways.

Well, both rope trick and mirror hideaway are 2nd-level spells, last for hours, and are easy to hide. The spell doesn't say what the extradimensional space is like, but presumably it's a room of some sort. And, of course, once you get to high enough level, there's the portable hole, create demiplane line, mage's magnificent mansion, the Sanctum archmage ability, and the option to just teleport somewhere far away.

Of course, you could just keep it simple: find a quiet cave or room somewhere, put an arcane lock on the door, cast some form of anti-scrying spell, and you're golden.

Out of curiosity, why doesn't your paladin like you making potions? That doesn't seem evil.

But in any case, paladins can't associate with evil creatures or ally with them, and you have to be LE in order to have an imp as your familiar... Have you just managed to play good around the paladin, and never get caught in their detect evil spell, so they never found out you're evil? Or is the paladin willingly allying himself with an evil wizard?

That is what I was looking for. With wild arcana I have 4 hours of privacy, perfect!

I do not want to do just poitions. I found a scroll of Lesser Planar Binding and want to practice things in this direction.

My alignment is neutral. According to what I have read it is possible to have an imp when having a neutral alignment. I still have to cast Nondetection on my imp though and it casts best shape (raven) on itself. Since detect evil is a pin point spell and not an aura or cone spell it is not that difficult... why should they cast this on my raven? :)

Actually, it's a Cone.

But a Paladin being a Paladin... can't you just hang up a "do not disturb" sign?

It's a cone when it's the spell and pinpoint when it's the Paladin ability.

The Exchange

Paladins can do it both ways. They have it at will as spell, but can as a move action focus on one person or object.
