Bottom of last page,
I'm curious about something though I'm not sure if the answer is a spoiler or not. Presumably the best individual or team will win. But with multiple PCs entering the same contest wouldn't that mean we would have to face each other at some point? Even if the odds are in our favor it will reach a point where the top 50 or so will all be Pathfinders.
You're assuming that the contest is the scenerio. It remains possible, that the contest is just the backdrop, or the thing that we are involved with when the real problem shows up.
I have reason to suspect that this is rigged (in-game) and that implies that a problem exists outside the contest that we need to handle.
Edit; It'd be a bit unfair to face players against each other as you can't truly deceive other players the way you can with npcs simply due to player's meta knowledge.
I.E. if I use an illusion to make it look like I'm controlling the river, npcs can be tricked into believing it, but a playeri never would believe it because they know that no such spell exists (not to mention google if they want to be sure).
