Unarmed and General Automatic bonus progression questions

Rules Questions

If i'm using the optional automatic bonus progression rules does can i choose Unarmed strike and does it apply for all variations of unarmed strike I might use (knees elbows etc.) or would I have to choose a hand or etc. this is in regards to the weapon attunement option.

also I'f just thinking about using it so If anyone has any advice or any experience they would like to impart to me I would appreciate that as well.

One more question tack on is armor attunement completely wasted on toons that don't wear armor?

This is nowhere near official, however...

I am currently GMing a campaign using Automatic Bonus Progression. If I had a player who wanted to choose Unarmed Strike for their weapon attunement, I would allow ALL of their unarmed strikes to be considered attuned in such a way. I'm not 100% certain if I'd allow a non-monk or non-brawler to use all of their limbs, as I believe that's a stipulation in their specific classes, but otherwise, yeah.

As for armor attunement on non-armored characters, I allow normal clothing to also be enchanted by armor attunement, starting effectively at +0 armor before the attunement.

I agree with Nargemn that I would allow mundane clothing and unarmed strikes to be attuned (and I wrote the ABP rules, so it's slightly more official, though my posts are still just my opinion).

Thanks for the quick responses. I think that sounds fair too! That is probably what I will do then.

For clothing, at least, this is written into the rules:

"The character can attune herself to one suit of armor or one shield in her possession; she can change that attunement once per day. If she selects a normal set of clothing as her armor, it counts as having a starting enhancement bonus of +0. The attuned suit of armor gains a +1 enhancement bonus at 4th level. At 8th level, she can split her attunement between a suit of armor and a shield, granting each a +1 enhancement bonus. At 9th level, she can grant a suit of armor or a shield a +2 enhancement bonus (instead of granting each a +1 enhancement bonus). At 14th level, she can either grant a suit of armor or a shield a +3 enhancement bonus or grant each a +2 enhancement bonus. At 15th level, she can either grant a suit of armor or a shield a +4 enhancement bonus or grant both a +3 enhancement bonus. At 17th level, she can either grant a suit of armor or a shield a +5 enhancement bonus or grant one a +4 enhancement bonus and the other a +3 enhancement bonus."

Unarmed strikes are, unfortunately, left out as usual. Either as an oversight, or because some on the design team believe unarmed strikes are stronger than they really are (I've heard an inability to be disarmed or sundered cited as a major reason why unarmed strikes are as good or better than any other weapon on at least one occasion...).

I lean towards the former in this case, but who knows.

A normal set of clothes are not listed in the armour section as a type of armour, so a special exemption had to be made.
Unarmed Strikes, however, are absolutely listed as a type of weapon and are just as qualified for attunement as a long sword, and they qualify for exactly the same reason.

Natural Attacks are a different story. Those did, in fact, get left out, either as an oversight or as an intentional balance decision. Unarmed Strikes are covered, though, 100%.
