I heard rumors that Stewart and Jackman teared up when they saw the final cut

I believe it, Stewart and Frakes cried during post production of their final episode of TNG.

All I know is so far I love the fact X-23 is totally Laura, but younger and less torture porn.

Beats out Winter Soldier as my favorite Marvel movie since Iron Man 1.

This is high praise since WINTER SOLDIER is also my favorite Marvel Studios movie.

The only two X-Men movies I think are even CLOSE to WINTER SOLDIER in terms of quality are X-2 and FIRST CLASS.

I'll be seeing LOGAN tomorrow at the Empire 25 in the Dolby Atmos theater. I hope that I enjoy it as much as you did.

I heard a rumor that an X-factor X-man also makes an appearance.

Is that true?

@Thomas: There is no telling. There are a lot of characters on the screen. VERY mild spoiler below, for stuff in the first 30m.

Spoiler:
Laura is one of about a dozen X23 kids, so one of them is sure to hit a few existing character notes, particularly since they're all dna recipients from previously existing mutants.

I loved the movie, I cried a few times. Pacing was pretty spot on, even if the action wasn't always pretty (CGI Jackman in some quick cuts is the most obvious to me).

My biggest takeaway though, sideways spoiler tangential to the films purpose:

Spoiler:
DEAR LORD, the Monsanto analogue was heavy handed. And worrisome. Yeah, I have no problems with GMO foods, but the undercurrent about GMO corn syrup being used for essentially Eugenics purposes, was something I had never really thought about before. I whine about water flouridation now, but snuffing out an entire gene mutation chance with Brawndo (its got electrolytes!)? Makes me never want to drink another soda, lol.

Holy crap that was goooood.

I cried, and I cried hard. Very dark stuff, the gory claw-action is effing' amazing and some other deaths are very gory too.

Laura almost stole the show. Dafne Keen is amazing as Laura.

Definitely one of the best superhero movies I have ever seen. Up there with Guardians of the Galaxy, Dark Knight and Winter Soldier.

X-Factorian is...

Spoiler:
...Rictor. Rictor leads the children from the lab where Laura was created. And he uses his powers which is neat.

Ros,

THANK YOU! I thought that's who it was.

It was one of the better x-men movies, and the best by far Wolverine. Wolverine must be the only series whose movies have steadily approved from horrible to okay to good with each sequel.

Not sure I would rank it up there with Winter Soldier and some of the better MCU movies.

Scarab Sages

The only thing that would have made it better for me was if he was still hallucinating Jean. But considering this is only quasi related to the other Wolvy movies (just like THE was only quasi related to ORIGINS or even either X Trilogy), I'll excuse it.

To be honest, though, I can see it being an actual sequel would improve it in every way. Spoilers below:

Spoiler:
1) The Jean Visions would go so much further into the theme of deterioration and mental aging. It was impactful in THE and while it would have probably crowded this one a bit, having Logan converse with Jean one time, maybe as he was dying, would have been a topper.

2) The loss of his metal claws. Silver Samurai chopped them bad boys off. Having Bone Claw Logan would have accentuated the theme of Loss and disability.

3) The adamantium poisoning. The writers really missed a chance to tie it directly to the temporary loss of healing power in THE. Yeah it was a moment 10+ years previous to LOGAN, but that time when he was completely powerless could have been the perfect catalyst to the true cause of his death and deterioration of his power overall. Leaving this out and just couching it up to adamantium poisoning is a missed opportunity to tie two of the best X Films together in a real way, rather than just the implied connections to the past.

4) It would have solidified one of the 5ish universes/timeslines in the series. As it is right now, we have the original X Trilogy in a single universe. ORIGINS in number 2 (Sabertooth as half brother, Emma Frost being a kid). First Class in number 3 (Emma Frost is old, Beast would be too old to be Kelsey Grammar in the early aughts, you can't stretch a 51 year old actor (in 06) portraying an age appropriate character into someone nearing 70 in the First Class timeline/universe). DoFP and maybe Apocalypse are in number 4 (Because DoFP created a brand new timeline, and characters not aging 20 years from First Class to Apocalypse presents more problems; don't tell me beast is not nearing 50 in the mid 80's and have him portrayed as half a decade older than in the 60's). THE could be construed to be in the X Timeline because of Famke's dreamy performance, and doesn't have any actual characters present that shouldn't be (except Charles who snidely remarks about death being temporary or some drivel for DoFP marketing purposes), so maybe number 5. And now, fully clawed Wolverine is in LOGAN, which isn't in DoFP's/Apocalypse's timeline, because Caliban hasn't appropriately aged another 40 years from a slightly younger version in the 80's (Number 6).

Having those ties into THE would have put it in the position, with the heavy hand of X-MEN (film) references, of tying THE and LOGAN into the original X universe, and give us a single unbroken chain of 5 films with a coherent plot transition. It would be a proper way to pull together the best 5 films to come out of the Trilogy Trilogy into a story that fully chronicled the journey of James Logan Howlett from lost, amnesiac loner, to a hero who sacrifices all that he loves for those that hate him, into a man haunted by his sacrifice, through to a man at 187ish years old, suffering from age and ailment, pulling all he can into being a hero when he is needed most. It would have been the bow to tie everything in the greatest comic film series together, and wrap it up in a cinematic gift for us to enjoy forever.

But instead we got a very solid, standalone film that works great in what it is. So I guess I can't complain too much.

I assume The Wolverine may not actually exist more in the timeline. X-men 3 is gone for good, which means the set of events leading to The Wolverine would not have occurred in the same way. At the very least, if something like that happened, it probably played out fairly differently

To quote Deadpool, the timelines in these movies are very confusing.

X-men timelines generally are MMC.

There's only one way X-Men timelines could be more messed up . . . if Barry Allen showed up.

LOGAN is BY FAR the best of the Wolverine films and is my 2nd favorite X-man related film (sorry X-2 comes first). In terms of performances it's EASILY the best of the X-Men movies. Everyone NAILS it.

For me it suffered from one or two pacing issues where the movie felt that it was a little too long but as a whole it's a VERY good movie. I ALMOST teared up at the end. ALMOST and I was surprised how emotional that ending was.

Also this movie is HELLA VIOLENT. HOLY CRAP there's some BRUTAL kills here.. Some of it is purely visceral but other stuff hits you hard because of the emotional setup.

So far this year I don't think I've seen a disappointing movie in the theater yet. JOHN WICK CHAPTER 2, GET OUT, KONG: SKULL ISLAND and now LOGAN, Keep it up 2017.

Kind of agree about Pacing. Also the villains were super weak, although that isn't exactly a problem unique to Logan when compared to modern comic movies.

Meh. I don't go into a Wolverine movie expecting great villains. If want great villains, they generally have to be outside Logan's usual rogue gallery.

Weak 1 dimensional villains is definitely a problem in modern supers flicks. I think for Logan's sake the story worked around it in a way zombie flicks usually do, in that the villain is really a minor part of the story.

This was a good g*@ d*~n movie, way better than I was expecting.

I agree the villains were meh, but honestly this being a character piece the villain is largely unimportant anyway.

Laura's actress was really good. If she hadn't been, this movie probably would have been garbage. The raw talent to sell being that dangerous and sometimes menacing at that young an age (and still do the emotional scenes very well...the little snot dribble when she cries really sold it) is really hard to find. I won't be surprised if she's a big name in a few years. I'll be disappointed if not.

Yeah I went to screening this past Wed on 34th Street.

It's not a GREAT movie but once they hit the island (I think about 30 -40 min into the movies run time) things pick up considerably. I'll just say that John C. Reilly is easily the best of the human characters in the movie.

Went to see it last night. Definitely one of the best X-Men movies.

more detailed thoughts:
seeing Professor X like that was tragic and his death was even more tragic.

Logan slowly dying from adamantium poisoning was sad and doesn't bode well for X23's future.

I found the story very interesting, including that they left many things vague. Humanity was "vaccinated" to stop random mutants from appearing but it was unclear if it also removed people's existing powers. Also did Prof X accidentally kill most of the X-Men or was it random people? Even he didn't seem to know.

I kind of wanted Logan to survive so he could train all the X23s but I still hope to see a sequel about them.

Browman,

There might a sequel if it continues to keep up the pace.

Just curious if anyone else thought of this. So in the film she was already all adamantiumed up right? she is like what 12? so how is her bones gonna grow with a metal coating. so this x-23 is permanently that size. So we get a Mini x-23 in fox's x-men XD

I'm going tomorrow and I'm really excited about this movie. I no longer go to the cinema a lot because I don't find a lot of movies that I really want to see and it's really expensive, but this one is an exception.
I'm leaving now... I need so badly to click that spoiler tag... I know I shouldn't.

From what I could tell, her adamantium coating was incomplete. Her chest, for example, seems completely unarmored. There's a quick flash of a medical chart at one point I couldn't get a great look at that might shed more light.

It's possible her implants were strategically placed to give maximal combat benefit (claws and spurs only, basically) while not impeding her ability to grow (and so, she could be further enhanced at a later date.

Also the implication I got from both the trailer that had her being worked on and the movie was that it was only in her claws. I would expect to have seen her in a vat like Logan was to get the bone coating.

Which just reminded me of the epic thud in x2 when deathstrike gets filled full of adamantium and sinks to the bottom of the vat.

I just watched X-Men:Apocalypse the other night and I'm seeing the scene where Apocalypse lays into Xavier to the point where his hair is falling out.

I couldn't help imaginging this as the thought going into his mind.

That would line up with the comics where they only had time to coat her claws.

Which is why there's an issue where she has to go back for her severed arm to get the adamantium claw to replace the bone claw in her regrowing arm.

Awesome

Awesome. He does his own sound FX too. ;)

Good but depressing.

On the plus side then the adamantium poisoning problem should be considerably lessened if its only on her claws.

I walked into the movie not expecting much. Wow, this movie was just great. I am so glad that Fox has decided that R ratings do not mean failure at the box office anymore. The movie really benefitted from being able to show the rough side of nature.

Thoughts on the Villans:
The real enemies in the movie were age and time. You have two immensely powerful people being laid low by them. The other villains were able to seem a threat because our heroes were already weakened. However, I was extremely upset at the Doctor when he said do not think of the children as people but rather as objects.

I don't know.... I don't think the graphic violence and language was necessary to tell a good story here. I mean don't get me wrong, it really helped illustrate Charles frustration of his situation and how bad things have become. Otherwise, it just allowed them to add a thousand nameless mooks to get faceclawed while dropping F-bombs in every scene. /shrug

Liberty's Edge

It was a good movie imo. Not as bleak as Old Man Logan but a enjoyable movie all the same. While I get the complaint about showing children attacking and murdering adults is a bad thing. It's also a theme of the movie of innocence lost imo.

Sovereign Court

This movie is not for kids.

Liberty's Edge

To be fair they never said it was. If parents are too lazy to look up the rating of a movie the blame is on them. Not the movie imo.

I watched it yesterday and I loved it. The actors are great. I went with a lot of expectations and I wasn't disapointed.
It's not a regular super hero movie. It could not have super heroes at all and still have such powerful metaphores that it would be worth seeing.
I'm a big X-23 fan and I think they did it great with her.
The movie itself is dramatic but not sappy and still violent and realistic in many ways.
Still impressed.
The worse part for me was dubbing. I hate dubbing. I like seeing movies in their original versions but I didn't have the option.

It was shown in the flashback that they operated on her arms to remove the claws put the metal in and reimplant them. The same was done to her feet one can asume.

More or less as shown in the comics. With the difference being that they did not use narcotics in the comics.
