I wanted a Rino Hide armor for my character. My Character also has has a +5 dex bonus. Is it possible to have rino hide with darkleaf cloth?

What does your GM say?

If I was the GM, I'd say "no." It's made of the hide of a rhinoceros.

Darkleaf Cloth is a specific substance you're making armor out of.

Rhino Hide armor explicitly says it's made from rhinoceros hide.

If it's made of darkleaf, it can't be made of rhino. If it's made of rhino, it can't be made of darkleaf.

That would be a no-brainer if you couldn't make regular hide armor---which is made of hide---out of darkcloth---which is not hide.

As a GM I'd say No too, but I can't construct an argument that doesn't run aground on darkcloth hide armor.

UEG states that rhino hide armor is made from actual rhino hide, ergo it can't be made from darkleaf. Now, if you want to bypass RAW, that's purely a DM call, but I don't think it would be PFS valid.

Take 3 levels of Fighter for Armor Training 1...

It's 1 less of max potential AC for additional 2d6 charge damage, which I guess to be the main thing about the armor the OP wants. That seems like a more than fair trade-off if one's gonna be building a high Dexterity character.

Technically speaking, the abilities of Rhino Hide come from the magical enchantment; the fact that it mentions that it is made from Rhino Hide in the magic item description is pure fluff. If a player were to kill a rhino, skin it, and craft mundane armor from its hide, I wouldn't let them give it the abilities of Rhino Hide just because "it's made from rhino hide".

That being said, as far as I know, altering a "specific magic item" in any way, requires DM approval, including simple things like changing its numerical modifier (in the case of specific magic weapons and armor).

I wouldn't see a problem with it, personally. If all the costs are paid (extra money for darkcloth armor, extra money for the enchantment) then the player has paid the resources needed to receive a specific benefit.

Here's my two cents worth. Official rules state you can enhance magic weapons and armor. That being said our group used those rules adding a multiplier to the cost making unique items. In one case a Phylactery of both Positive and Negative channeling. So if your DM allows it I don't see why you can't make a Rhino darkleaf hybrid armor.
