Living Grimoire Thematic Ranged Weapon

Liberty's Edge 2/5

I am toying with a Living Grimoire for a local PFS game, mostly because the idea of dealing damage with a book is very appealing. I am looking for something thematic to use as a ranged weapon. I am still fairly new to Pathfinder and PFS, but I think re-skinning something is not really ok. I would dearly love to throw religious pamphlets at people like shuriken or something.

The other thread suggested profession barrister so you can throw the book at them... ;)

The horror FAQ came out Friday and said it shoul be treated as a light weapon for the purpose of feats etc. I've not seen anything official about throwing it though.

Yeah, I am fine with using the book as a melee weapon. I want something different to throw. An Iron Brush is an idea but the range is quite limited. Maybe I just go with something deity related instead.

How specific is the gambit archtype that throws harrow cards at people about what can be thrown?

Very, as I recall.

Silver Crusade 2/5

It's use is for melee, but the Scrollmaster Archetype from Ultimate Magic is probably worth looking at to perhaps give some ideas.

I have one of these. I took the Magic domain so I can "Throw the book at them" using Hand of the Acolyte.

Fortifying stones are a scrollmaster's best friend.

You could always take the feat Throw Anything. Then you could throw books (or hard-covered pamphlets) as improvised weapons.

Mount book on shield, take Shield Champion?

This is so priceless I may have to steel it and call it the Andrew Roberts build.

Quick technical question...

Living Grimoire states: "He uses Intelligence instead of Wisdom as his key spellcasting ability score (to determine his spell DCs, bonus spells per day, modifier on concentration checks, and so on), and to determine the effects and number of uses of his domain powers."

Magic Domain: "You can cause your melee weapon to fly from your grasp and strike a foe before instantly returning. As a standard action, you can make a single attack using a melee weapon at a range of 30 feet. This attack is treated as a ranged attack with a thrown weapon, except that you add your Wisdom modifier to the attack roll instead of your Dexterity modifier (damage still relies on Strength). This ability cannot be used to perform a combat maneuver. You can use this ability a number of times per day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier."

Does this mean INT should be used instead of WIS for both:
1) the number of times per day
2) instead of Dex as mod to hit

That's the way I've been using it. I think the "number of uses" clause covers #1, and the "determine the effects" clause covers #2.

Yeah, looks clear-cut to me. Pretty nice really.

I know what I am going to play!

Take the Rough and Ready trait to get another +1 to attack rolls and be able to use the book as an improvised thrown weapon.
