DJ DM: Where Can I Do It?

Technology

I've run into a bit of a problem. I like to play music in my horror campaign to help set the tone. My campaigns, however, are online. While I can just link the music, it is disruptive to the flow of the action to tell my players "here, play this song while you this scene/boss fight happens."

What I'm basically asking is if there is a website somewhere where I can not only set up a playlist but have that playlist play live for anyone who has access to the link/channel? Some kind of DJ site. I've looked everywhere and couldn't find it.

How do you communicate with your players? Some of the more popular VOIP programs should allow you to channel in audio. You could DJ right on the fly and provide music to the party directly without relying on the players to advance the music on their own.

We use Skype. And yeah, that was more or less the idea I wanted, wherein I would control the flow of the music according to what is going on. I'm afraid we're too stuck on Skype to really switch just for the sake of music. Any websites that might provide the DJ service?

If you're hooked on Skype...maybe this will help...

Sharing Music with Skype

If that looks too crazy, Discord is a great VoIP program. Super easy to install and supports additional audio devices.

I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

What do you use for your virtual tabletop, if anything? Roll20 lets you set up a playlist so your players can look at the map/roll dice and you can play music through at the same time.

R20 no longer supports playlists. I use maptool, as I find it far easier to build my maps there and it allows me to more flexibly add resources to my library.

Wait, really? Why would they remove a feature like that?

It was actually Soundcloud's decision, not theirs.
