Golarion, Hold of Belkzen - where are nearby Temperate Forests?

Advice

I'm hopefully going to be selected to play a Pathfinder Lore based campaign soon, and part of that requires me to have been near a temperate forest location to obtain an animal companion (Mantis, Giant).

While this alone wont hopefuly prevent me being selected, I was wondering how a player was able to tell if a forest was a temperate location. It was increasingly becoming harder to find any information on this, as it is either not provided on wiki's or is indirectly referenced (such as snow covered trees).

Has these types of locations been defined in the lore of Golarion? And is there a easy way to find locations based on terrain speifications in the future?

Looking at the Inner Sea Poster Map, it appears that the two closest forests to Belkzen are the Shudderwood of northern Ustalav, and the Fangwood of Nirmathas and Lastwall. There are also a few smaller spots of trees that are unnamed along the Belkzen/Ustalav border. All of these forests match the description of temperate forests, so you shouldn't have any problem convincing your GM that your character (assuming they live in/around Belkzen) might be able to find their way to the Giant Mantis' habitat.

Mmm I guess I'm putting too much investment into "Temperate" or perhaps not having a clear understanding of the word. I would have thought that the majority of Shudderwood to be a wetland swamp. Thanks, I will at least put the idea to the GM to see their take.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Since they do not define the forests types, I think you'll be okay. There also should be some flexibility in finding your companion as well. In the real world, for instance, there are mantes that live in deserts, grasslands, etc, not just 'temperate forests' (though most species DO live in rain forests).

An area can contain more than one habitat. Shudderwood can be both forest and swamp. Temperate is a decently wide zone (north of the Inner Sea and south of the Crown of the World). Belkzen is definitely temperate.
