Humanoid Slime People

Homebrew

Ohh boy it's been a while since i've been in the Homebrew section, i haven't really had much in the way of idea's lately. but know for some reason i've had an odd obsession with the idea of Slime people...i blame Anime.

I've actually only just started the idea though i post today in hopes of gathering ideas.

i've seen the 3rd party races doing this already, but this is my take so there will be quite a few differences

So for starters if anyone has any names i'd appreciate the help right now i got nothing good.

other than that if anyone has any idea's for racial abilities or what not that'd be helpful.

I should have some kind of fluff and more racial stuff up some time later .

My thought's so Far

So racial stat adjustments- +2 dexterity, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom

My idea for this is to avoid the general theme that Slime people must be simple and stupid because that's been done already. Instead the idea here is that they are actually quite brilliant though they are new to the world and lack experience and have trouble comprehending the consequences of their actions.

I am open to changing this in just about any way with the exception of an int penalty, i don't want them to be dumb.

Boneless- +2 to acrobatics and Escape artist, in addition these are always class skills for them.

This is just the base of an idea i'm working with but the idea is they have a humanoid form they are molded into and though this restricts them in ways they are still more flexible than most other races

The idea i have so far is that these are humanoid shaped slime people, that have a sort of a slick semi permeable skin that helps them to keep shape.

They are somewhat translucent though colored and look gel-like. their eye's are big and one solid color.

The older they get the more detailed a form they can have

i've also been throwing around the idea of them having a more puddle gel like form similar to a change shape ability that let's them squeeze into small spaces and such. though not really sure how to work it out.

That's what i have right now, i should have more later.

thought about it probably going to limit the Change shape thing if i were to do it to a number of times per day.

Is "ooze" the creature type?

i wasn't going to make it the type, i was going to do something like humanoid with a subtype or invent half ooze or something.

otherwise i was going to avoid giving them ooze, it might be too powerful.

There's also the fact that ooze's are usually mindless which i don't think would work here.

But to further expand on idea's i've thought of in the past few days

I was going to make their flavor text racial information something along the lines of they were Slime like creature's that came into contact with humans and evolved a more humanoid form to better survive.

The Half-Construct seems like a good springboard if Half-Ooze is something you wanted to do.
Half-Construct wrote:

*Half-constructs gain a +2 racial bonus on saving throws against disease, mind-affecting effects, poison, and effects that cause either exhaustion or fatigue.
*Half-constructs cannot be raised or resurrected.
*Half-constructs do not breathe, eat, or sleep, unless they want to gain some beneficial effect from one of these activities. This means that a half-construct can drink potions to benefit from their effects and can sleep in order to regain spells, but neither of these activities is required for the construct to survive or stay in good health.

So a Half-Ooze could be something like

*+2 Racial bonus on saves vs. poison, sleep effects, paralysis, polymorph and stunning effects.
*Don't need to sleep

That actually seems pretty comparable to me. The last bullet is the same, the Half-construct's first bullet is a bit better than the Half-ooze's, but it's second bullet is a handicap, so it kind of evens out. This plus your above ability modifiers and skill proficiency/bonuses makes for a 12 RP race, which is pretty on point if you ask me.

i'm going to spend tommorrow working on this once i get out of work so you can expect a bit more from me than maybe's and idea's. Probably a bit of fluff and flavor along with a bit of crunch.

I might do the half ooze thing just because it adds a bit of uniqueness to this and it doesn't seem like too much of a problem of course still have to factor a bunch of other things in, race speed, language, that and having jsut a skill bonus is a little weak so i might add something more just not sure what yet

I'm working on a humanoid ooze race. I might post some of my work.

I made them a monstrous humanoid with a racial trait called "ooze traits" that gave them bonuses on ooze-related immunities.

slimes are hard to kill and kinda freaky.

Go ahead, the more ideas the better

Have you seen the squole from Alluria Publishing?

i have i'm taking bit's from that as well as puddling's and other things. I used Boneless from that

There's also a humanoid ooze ability they have i'm hesitant to use it what do people think about it?

it's listed below

Humanoid Ooze: A squole has only a few common traits consistent with other oozes, due to its permanent humanoid form. Squoles cannot be stunned and do not take additional damage from precision-based attacks, such as sneak attack. In addition, squoles are immune to poison and sleep effects. They can however be subject to critical hits, flanking, paralysis, and polymorph, just as other humanoids are. Squoles eat and breathe, but do not sleep.

some sort of regeneration or weapon DR. are they acidic would they get an acidic unarmed attack? are they a new race or an established race? if they are new they might get a negative to charisma. or a negative for their drippy gooey appearance. do they keep their gel/slime clean or do they have floaty bits.

The compression ability sounds like a good fit.
Some ability to move among slimes, maybe an immunity or resistance to the touch of slimes
Maybe the ability to use handle animal on slimes etc as tho they were animals and not mindless.
Thematic small powers

okay so answering some questions...today was a bit of a busier day than i expected.

They are a new race of one of the many of my creation

They are intended as a pc race, regen or dr are way to powerful for any pc race

I was thinking of doing something with an acidic touch if anyone has idea's for that.

How they look and imagining hmmmm, I've given this a bit of thought and have decided they are less goop and slimy more gel like having an appearance of a solid slick outside with a liquid inside. being wet and cold to the touch even a bit squishy . They are clear, see through, though colored. Sort of like a humanoid shaped rain drop if you get my meaning here. It is really hard to find a good picture of this without stumbling into that part of google images....

My idea is that they were once barely sentient slime/oozes, trying to survive. To survive they began copying Humans, right down to appearance. As they adapted and changed they grew more and more intelligent.

Though less slime like, having changed form so drastically.

I was toying with the idea of an M sized Shoggoth that took human form, then forgot. Every time it uses it's powers, such as forming a bone sword, it risks going full Shoggoth. Confronting it with an elder star is the only reliable way of turning it back.

Brilliant idea. My wholehearted support!

A decent picture for what i'm imagining

What i have so far:

Often described as naive geniuses These sentient ooze’s were not always so. In the beginning they were but ordinary though intelligent ooze’s barely surviving. As human-kind expanded they were discover. This changed everything, they began learning about the world and changing to better survive, copying much of what they saw from mankind.
Though they learned enough to save them from extinction, they still lack understanding of the world, being a race younger even than humans. They have almost no history, appearing to live alongside humans as if out of nowhere.

Physical description (see picture above)

They have humanoid forms looking like a person, though made of gel. They are not what one would describe as slimy, they are more cold and slick to the touchy, though still as squishy. They have eye’s that are usual one solid color, even having morphed part of their body to have what looks like an attempt to make hair .

There bodies are only semi transparent, food that they eat can be seen floating inside if one looks close enough after one has eaten. They come in virtually any color, some even multiple colors.

They tend to possess body structure’s similar to that of the average human

Society and Relations

They only just recently have developed enough to have a society more than just a few of them congregating. It is worth noting that they are advancing rather quickly possessing small, though advanced cities nearby humans, whom they often use for protection. They have a rather good relationship with humans, elves, most race’s really as they contribute to the world with their ability to learn quickly. With the exception of those that seek war or battle actively. They are a generally peaceful race that do not seek conflict, of course there are always outliers and other sects that follow other ways and beliefs.
They possess a desire to learn and grow, this leads them to be more interested in races from a fact and book perspective rather than as an experience. This can lead to have varied relations with other races.

Alignment and religion

They have no god’s that are common among them, following the gods of whatever race’s they want or whatever gods they have studied while learning about other races. They are as varied here as there are races in the world.
Some even refuse to worship god’s believing logic and fact is more worthy of their time.

They tend toward some kind of neutral as their desire to learn leads many to search more for facts Though they can be of any alignment as they possess a capacity for good, evil, law, or chaos .

Adventurers

Few of these slime people ever become adventurer’s those that do are often seen as ambitious or even reckless. They naturally tend toward any of the more scholarly classes, a desire to learn driving them toward magic.

Standard Racial traits

+2 Dex, +2 Intelligence, -2 Wisdom They are intelligent and possess an innate desire to learn and grow more so than other races and are also flexible due in part to their being ooze like. Though they are new to the world and lack experience.

Size Medium

Base speed 30 feet

Languages they begin speaking common

Skill Traits

Boneless- +2 to Acrobatics and Escape Artist. Both are class skills.

I didn't think I'd like this idea at first, but they're growing on me.

Seems the wis penalty might be better described differently. Maybe: "They lack the cunning and intuition of those elder races they try to emulate." An individual might lack experience, but unless they've all materialized at the same time everywhere about five years ago, many of these Goop's would have had to have lived and thus, experienced the world.

Any names in the running?

honestly i was hoping for some name ideas to be thrown around all i have is Goopling's or Slimeling's...that's about all i got on that front

Dark Archive

Here was my notion on an ooze-humanoid.

Like you, I flinched away from the many powerful options that were baked into the Ooze creature type, and made the critter a humanoid with some ooze-like traits.

I'd go with an aberration or a monstrous humanoid probably, with an ooze-like quality/subtype. A bit more powerful because of immunity to humanoid affecting effects, though not terribly much.

Regarding names, if they are evolved oozes that mimic humanoids, it's not unlikely that they appropiated a name given by another race. Depending on who 'discovered' them, It could be a scientific name (with roman or ancient greek roots) or a slang name. Alternatively, maybe they have a creation myth from which they derive their self-designated name?

I've been working on a group of adorable little pet oozes based on the seven skymetals that can be chosen as improved familiar. They have tactile empathy and communicate using their limited change change ability to transform into small objects (basically speaking in pictograms).

I'm not sure if you know about them, but this could help.

They're oozes that think they are people, but the sun changes them back to normal. They believe that they are just short humans, elves, etc. that have been cursed.

Oh, goody. Gummi-creatures for Pathfinder

Here's my take.

Slimefolk
Monstrous Humanoid

Floaty: slimefolk gain a +2 racial bonus to swim and fly checks.

This is what I had for my humanoid slimefolk. They're descended from alchemists that devolved themselves into ooze in a failed attempt to gain immortality by crafting an alchemical body. Several generations later, the first ozidians emerged with sentience and a natural form that's a mixture of ooze and human anatomy.

...Please use a different name than Gooplings.

  • Egdule's (Edge-le)

  • Jellticien's (Gel-tish-ahn)

  • Schmaltz' (Shmôlts)

Edited in some suggestions so as to improve helpfulocity.

Nother Edit: Looking through Ooze entries in the bestiary, the highest stat nearly all of them have is Constitution. Worth considering.

Did some for 3.0 and ran into anti-anime people. Better luck than I had.

Mine were not fully translucent, with 'active parts manifesting visibly within in disturbing ways (-4 Cha checks). Brains became visible (and their alien appearance) when one was doing heavy thinking. Food digesting, muscles when any but the most normal activity, etc. To counter the several logical benefits (as listed above under half construct), their ability scores suffered. -2 on Str and Dex. -2 to -4 on mental stats, but a +4 on Con. Try using feats to grant the ooze abilities. I didn't but it might work better.
