OAs and Weapon Trick (Choke Up)

Rules Questions

Was there ever any clarification how (or if) you can use Choke Up in regards to letting go with one hand on a polearm outside your turn? I ran into an issue today with it and I'm not exactly sure how I understand it.

Just to clarify, I do understand that there are limitations to when you can take free actions. I'm more interested if there's a consensus if it works something similar to along the lines of talking (or dropping a weapon) or if its something treated like Combat Expertise, where you have to declare you're doing it for the round for a benefit.

It doesn't have an action type listed...I would say it's probably a free action meaning you couldn't do it when it's not your turn.

Edit: To clarify about free actions, you can't take free actions when it's not your turn, except to speak. To take an action when it's not your turn you require an immediate action, except to speak.

Alternatively, it could be as you say a condition which last for an entire round. You would take the penalties the entire round (even if you decided to use two hands to wield the polearm).

It mostly seems like the need to include an action type associated with using weapon tricks.
