Looking for some advice and feedback on the Automatic Bonus Progression system covered in Pathfinder Unchained. Hopefully this is the right section to ask in.
I'm planning on running Curse of the Crimson Throne after the hardcover is out and like the look of this system for dealing with the big six.
I am thinking of running a custom variant of the variant rule and skipping the changes to weapons/armour as this has not been an issue for my players in the past. Mostly we've just always felt sad that cloaks, rings, belts, etc. which had interesting effects were just thrown away because of the need for stats.
I'm interested in hearing feedback and advice from others that have tried the system in live play, did it work well, did players enjoy it more than normal etc.?
It is a bit derailing off the top but, You might instead prefer the Inherent Bonus ruleset also in the Unchained book. It doesn't affect weapons and armor, while potentially solving the problem without houserules.
I have been playing in a game with ABP and I quite like it. It throws off the value of a few spells (the bonuses from spells like Protection from Evil, Magic Vestment, etc can be thrown off, which has more impact for those who might get them as domain spells or mystery spells or whatnot), but the simplicity of the system is great. Less in-group competition or worry about magic items, and it opens up the availability of some of the non standard items.
You'll probably need to do more work to convert the AP and reduce the wealth, but it's reasonably easy to just pull all the standard items out of the loot.

I think my issue with that system was (as someone bought up in another thread) you're unable to wear an item you want because to get the good bonuses you have to wear expensive items.
