OK, so I want there to be 12 planes in my cosmology.

Heaven: LG & Air
??????: NG & Positive Energy
Paradise: CG & Earth
Feywild: CN & Faerie
Abyss: CE & Water
Shadowfell: NE & Shadow & Negative Energy
Hell: LE & Fire
Cosmopolis: LN & Time
Outlands: N & ???

Astral
Ethereal
Prime Material

So....Mostly I need a name for the NG plane. And maybe some other trait for the Outlands.

Nirvana for the NG plane, maybe?

Perhaps Equilibrium for the Outlands.

You could try Radiance for NG or maybe Elysium/Blessed Fields. Maybe assign Time & Balance to the Outlands and use mechanics, laws and constructs for your LN plane (enduring stasis as opposed to the change of Feywild and the immutable march of time in the Outlands).

Enlightened Nirvana?

That's a bit of a mouthful, particularly if you're going to be saying it frequently. Go for snappy names is generally best. :)

That's a bit like firey hell. Nirvana is something you can only reach through enlightenment, at least in the "real world" buddhist sense (I'm putting this really simply here, but at the end of the day, you don't reach enlightenment, you don't reach nirvana)

I was making a pun. EnLIGHTened (Radiant) Nirvana. ;-)

Oh. Well, don't we feel dim? :p

Hahahahaha!!!!

I'm puzzled by fundamental concepts/matter having alignment. What is evil water or good air like?

And NG & positive energy and NE & negative energy seem redundant under a D&D esque system.

You'd think so, but that doesn't stop a Lawful Good Paladin from exploding if they hang around the Positive Energy Plane for too long.

I'm just combining the elemental planes with the alignment planes.

The Heavens are airy and heavenly. Clouds and harp music and radiant mountain peaks.
Hell is infernal and fiery. An eternal, infernal, furnace of toil and torment.
Paradise is a garden of earthly delights and wild pleasures.
The Abyss has the darkness of the depths and demonic depravity.

It makes sense to me.

EDIT:

I reviewed my DMG and they ditched the positive energy and negative energy fields, so I can too! :-D

I like the way you combined elements and outer planes, and I agree with your choices too.

Well positive and negative energy have kind of been replaced by necrotic and radiant i guess. Except that both are now damage types amd neither actually heals anything.

I have to admit i was completely in the dark about that.

Those certainly make sense to me too. It's as good as any other interpretation, after all.

Associating negative energy with evil does explain why undead are generally at the deep end of the alignment pool and in a universe where entire realities are composed of one element, having energy planes as well makes perfect sense.

Just as long as you're not feeling too gloomy.
