The screenshot above seems to support the notion that the giant minis are of huge size.

Also an australian website offers the series as early as august 3rd 2016 - which is in 4 weeks - 4 weeks before the american release date.

I can tell you with some experience that Australian "street dates" are wildly inaccurate. People just seem to put random dates into their computers sometimes.

We do, occasionally, get things early, but the vast majority of the time we're about a month behind the U.S.

I had the same thought about this, but sometimes we in Germany get the products earlier too (though mostly later).

Thank you for the insight, Steve. :-)

We should get some previews from Wizkids this week if i am right.

The set has been pushed back (again) to september 30th!

Thanks, Marco. I wouldn't know how to check facebook and twitter, so I appreciate it (although I actually prefer having most of the set a surprise - it's nice to see a handful of what to expect).

The first preview dropped today, but it is a mini we already know of, the Thri-Kreen.

I asked them to show us a giant beside a medium mini next. ;-)

Dark Archive

I just noticed that they changed the weapons from 2 swords and 1 double-spear to 3 swords.

Probably for the better.

The pose is also a bit different from the cgi render shown earlier. Maybe there are 2 thri-kreens in the set? Or maybe they are doing variants with different weapons?

One HUGE giant miniature in every booster has been confirmed!

New info from boardgamegeek:

a brick (8 boosters) contains 6 different HUGE giants (out of 10 sculpts/14 variations).

That means NOT EVERY BOOSTER CONTAINS A HUGE MINIATURE!

Personally i think there are 4 uncommon huge minis (out of: Hill Giant, Stone giant, Frost Giant male, Frost Giant female, Fire Giant male or Fire Giant female) in a brick, plus 1 rare huge mini (out of: Cloud Giant male, Cloud Giant countess, Storm Giant King or Storm Giantess Iymrith), plus 1 alternate weapon version (of: Hill, Frost, Fire or ? giant).

That way a case would have all 4 rares plus all 4 alternate weapon versions.

No word on invisibles yet.

It´s out!

45 different minis from tiny to gargantuan plus 4 alternate weapon huge giants!

May it contain all 12 rares and a lots of the 8 ultra-rares! :-)

I´ll get mine in 3 weeks estimate.

The last - Monster Menagerie - contained one of each rare and 7 of 10 invisibles.

Rage of Demons had 4 rares missing and contained only 2 of 5 invisibles.

So it seems the destribution has gotten better.

I wish you luck!
Maybe you can share a list of what you found? ;-)

Will do - if I can read the damn things!

I can't understand why wizkids don't print the labels for D&D small/medium figures in white.

Berk the black posted pictures on www.plasticrypt of his case huges.
He had 25 huge minis (6 per brick, one got 7) and 7 larges - every booster has either a huge or large mini (Fomorian or Winter Wolf), which is easily being found out by the weight.
He had all giants, one of the rare ones (41-44) and multiple of the others.
The alternate weapon arms are detachable and can be combined with the alternate versions, which have different paint jobs for their clothes/armor.
That means in theory you can create 4 different looking giants out of each of the four alternate versions, which is great to differentiate them on the battle-map!

How distressing - my group are likely to meet Mammy Graul next Wednesday. I doubt my case will be here by then, but that hill giant chieftain (chieftainess?) looks like a perfect figure for her. :/

If you're talking about Chief Guh, I fear this mini's a bit oversized for a medium NPC. Horrorclix actually had a figure, called Big Bertha, which fit Mammy Graul quite well, especially if you give her make-over.

I'm always relaxed about sizing - it's visual impact I'm going for rather than tactical accuracy. the hill giantess evoked just the right look, IMO.

Your version of Big Bertha is pretty darn good too!

I'm afraid I wasn't organised enough to keep a list, but we counted individual sculpts before merging them with my collection and I'm pretty sure I got a full set (45 figures counting the variant A/B giants as 1 and ignoring the 4 invisibles I got).

The Giants are terrific (and definitely deserve the moniker "huge"!) There's one or two I don't like aesthetically, but the sculpting and painting is top notch, IMO.

Similarly with the monsters (a bunch of different yuan-ti which is nice though one of them is pretty enormous for a medium figure). I suspect there'll be some complaints about a couple of the humanoids' paint jobs.

Overall though it was a great set and Wizkids have clearly lifted their game, distribution wise. Now I'd just like them to paint the mini names in white, rather than the inexplicable choice of black-on-black.

Good luck with your case. :)

One niggle I have is that I've never liked "variant weapon" minis. I find them gimmicky and more trouble than they're worth. I got to crow about being right this time - one of my cloud Giants was missing a hand and a fire giant came with the frost giant weapon, by mistake.

At least they don't try to count them as 2 different minis. They actually do with some of the mediums... one mini with a bow and then the same mini with a sword and different paint job.

I REALLY like the cloud giants. Fills a nice hole in my collection. Fire giants are cool, too, just maybe a little too ornate for rank and file warriors; I feel like I got 4 kings and 4 high priests.

Sprites are great - we've needed that niche filled for a long time. Agree about the giant medium yuan-ti... he'll be getting re-based tomorrow.

Yeah, the cloud giants were definitely overdue (although they're one of the ones I don't like aesthetically, I still appreciate them being there). Your Kings and High priests comment is a good point - I hadn't realised it until you said it, but you're absolutely right. I think my favorite giant was the rare Frost Giant hero (his name escapes me atm). I did like the hill giant a lot, but I really wish they were large, rather than huge.

I agree repaints shouldn't be counted as a second sculpt, but I didn't feel cheated. I think partly because I was getting tengus, sprites and those insectoid things from Athas so I needed a bunch anyhow.

I've made peace with having large and huge giants of the same race. Philosophically, I think Huge is a better size for most giants ('cause, you know, they're giants!), but I have a LOT of Large giant minis. I figure that whatever makes them big has some variability and a typical tribe is mostly Large but may have some Huge members. If they're Huge and clever, then they probably lead the tribe, but if they're Huge and dumb, they're more like siege engines or (in the case of those Huge hill giants) pack beasts.

I actually like the cloud giants' look - tall and lanky, a little awkward, almost like someone who grew up on low gravity. WAY better than the mustache-in-the-clouds look of the old WotC cloud giant.

My least favorite is probably the female frost giant. She's green! I could call her a forest giant or a sea giant or something, but all the bones she's wearing are pretty clearly frost/viking. I much prefer the Paizo fur-clad blue-skinned female frost giant. (I'm also happy that we have enough variety of good pre-painted mini's that I can say "I like this female frost giant better than that female frost giant"!)

I opened all boosters yesterday and yes, all 44 miniatures were in it multiple times (plus 4 of the 8 invisibles). :-)

Nice. Were you pleased with the sculpts? The distribution? What were your favorite pieces?

I think it's one of the better sets, although I really liked the last one too. I'm really hoping Wizkids are going to follow the PF Battles approach of trying to give one full set per case.

I didn't buy a case, just the minis I was interested in, which turned out to be a lot in the end - to the point where I may as well have bought one.

I'd agree with the thoughts above, the huge Giants are incredible. I love the cloud Giants but can understand how the pseudo anime style may not appeal. However the rare female Sansuri is extremely nice. The Storm Giants are incredible.

As for the frosties. I agree with you Steve in regard to Hashnarg (the rare male), he is incredible, I wish he were large mind you. The female just don't work for me, it's either the proportions or colouring, or both.

I use the hill as a mountain giant, but the sculpt is very nice.

The two fire Giants will work as enlarged Giants and/or make a great king and queen of their race.

The disappointment was the formorian. Next to the other he felt small and his lack of bulk next to the others just felt like a let down really.

On the mediums. I love the yochlol, night hag (the best to date probably), the sprites (awesome) and frog (very realistic sculpt). The purebloods and the snake tailed Malison are also nice in hand.

I was surprised at how much I liked the two bandits and strangely despite the very small size I ave a soft spot for the intellect devourer. I didn't hunt down any of the others.

Overall the huges are a real addition to my collection. Other than that I didn't really add a lot to my collection form this one.

I also don't think variant weapons should be counted as two sculpts in a set but it does at least offer a bit of variation on the table.

Overall I'm impressed with the improvement in quality and hope the trend continues into monster menagerie 2.

I'll have the pieces here (at my girlfriends place) tomorrow, then i can answer you thorough.

I like most sculpts, the distribution was good - 2 of each common giant at least but oddly 4 or 5 of #27 i think.

Favorite pieces:
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 12, 16, 17, 24, 27, 28, 31, 35, 41, 43, 44.

More details to come. ;-)

Dark Archive

COMMONS (1-13):

#1: Intellect Devourer: more realistic size, the brain could fit into a medium size minis skull. Also kinda cute. 4/5

#2: Sprite (sword): Very good detail, the right height to attack a medium from directly above. 5/5

#3: Sprite (bow): same as #2. 5/5

#4: Darkmantle: Better than the old D&D version. Very alien look with solid colors. 4/5

#5: Homunculus: Good sculpt, you can see the feet, arms, breast muscles, mouth, eyes, ears. 4/5

#6: Cazi Alphelandra: A very tall small mini, same height as the bandits and taller than the Kenku. Also a strange crossbreed between halfling and elf? A medium sized mini with large bow would have been better. 2/5

#7: Crag Ungart: A young dwarf with a greatsword? The pose is pretty useless, the face very undetailed. 1/5

#8: Giant Frog: Love this one, very realistic sculpt. 5/5

#9: Scarecrow: Would have been better if it could substitute for an actual scarecrow too, which isn´t possible easily because of the strange chicken feet. Also the hands should be claws of wooden sticks. 3/5

#10: Kenku (sword): Pretty basic. A little too small maybe. 3/5

#11: Kenku (bow): Same as #10. Very basic painting. 3/10

#12: Yochlol: A very cool sculpt with a good paint job. One of my favorites in this set. 5/5

#13: Hell Hound: Very bland sculpt, bad paint job. A "stinker" 1/5
