Legendary Games has produced quite a few class-based products, including Legendary Heroes books focused on paladins, rogues, swashbucklers, kineticists, and hybrid classes, as well as an assortment of villainous expansions focused on Antipaladins, Evil Clerics, and Dark Druids, with more products coming soon for fighters, gunslingers, assassins, and more.

However, we are about to start doing something entirely new. We have had our team working on a new book to be entitled Legendary Vigilantes, and given the many layers of complexity and intrigue around this class we really wanted to play around with some different ideas, and we have decided that for the first time Legendary Games is going to open up a public playtest! Stay tuned here for further information as we work to finalize the manuscript and get it into your hands to try out an awesome array of new and exciting options for vigilantes in your game.

Oh man, what kind of heroic and handsome person could be running a playtest like this? I don't know, but there's a good chance that puckish rogue could drop some details on some of the classes soon, as I've heard they're quite forthcoming about their information. Also handsome.

Glad to see people are looking forward to this, I'm guessing it'll be a few more days until this comes out. I've always wanted to run a public playtest, and I'm excited to show the new archetypes and prestige classes that are in this doc as well as a bunch of new things.

I think I'll be making a vigilante character to play in the next few weeks so hopefully I'll have something useful to contribute to the play test.

BYW N. Jolly I picked up the Shinobi recent and really like it solves a problem I was having with a another character build I was working on.

Awesome, here I've been having a lot of fun working on archetypes and other things for this. Here's a list of the archetype names that have been confirmed for this project:

Beast Born
Dragon Champion
Dynamic Striker
Exposed Vigilante
Fortune Thief
Masked Grappler
Noble Soul
Protean Prowler
Sentai Soldier
Shadow Sentinel

Also glad you like it, it'd really help out if you could drop a review for it!

Silver Crusade

Whoops, looks like I was wrong about the archetypes, there's another one that needs to be added.

Arsenal Summoner

The playtest itself should be starting soon, looking forward to seeing what people think of what I've put up already.

Interested. Want to get a look at the mechanics for them though before I get too hyped, god love the vigilante but it has a lot of archetypes that just don't deliver mechanically on their themes like they should.

This is an entirely valid point, which is one of the reasons we've decided to playtest this. Last thing we want is to have another 'Gunmaster' style archetype that feels like someone super glued trashy deeds onto the vigilante chassis.

It's why I want to give you all the chance to critique, playtest, and give your thoughts on things so I can make a more viable set of archetypes for everyone, as well as prestige classes and talents.

How is this going to work? Will you just release a free pdf, or there some form of sign up that needs to happen?

What I plan on doing myself (unless Jason N. has other plans for this) is to release the url for the google doc on which I'm working. That way, people can comment directly onto the doc as well as give feedback through the thread. I know sometimes reading over something I wish I could comment right away, so to me, this seems like the best way of doing things, although Jason N. should be letting me know their plans for this.

I am content to run the playtest cycle via Google Drive, though people can also post their thoughts and comments here. I'd love to be able to host the discussion on the LG website, but we've never been able to gte the messaging and posting function to work without getting an avalanche of spam within a day or two.

Silver Crusade

Awesome, I'll be having it cross posted elsewhere too. Let me know if you want to post the thread for the actual playtest or if I should, as like I said before, I'm good to go whenever.

As a fan of the Vigilante class' mechanics (if not their fluff), I'm definitely interested in seeing what other companies can do in regards to improving a class as versatile and surprisingly-effective as this one. I'll absolutely keep my eyes peeled for this one.

Lol yeah or the wildsoul (bear in particular), brute (cool but gets in the way of doing your hulk out barehands smashing), the magical child (was hyped for some sailor moon and only have something that kind of lets you play card captor sakura maybe), or the agathiel from spymaster's handbook (your vigilante form is just beast shape but with no stat bumps and a hyper limited number of abilities from the spell).

Happy I wasn't the only one who didn't like the gunmaster either.

Anyway we'll get some swashbuckling Zorro options?

I have grown to really enjoy this class, and it is very versatile. At the same time, there's some pretty strict design space here with which I've been toying around, and I think you'll all like the results of it. The playtest itself should be starting sometime this weekend.

Trust me, I straight LOVE the core class, but a lot of the archetypes just...lack impact. Wildsoul is flat for too long, brute is just trash, Magical child lacks synergy (although I have a feat that'll hopefully help with that), gunmaster is...not good, with agathiel lacking versatility (it was close though).

I actually don't have something like that in there yet, although since the playtest will last for 2-3 weeks (depending on how it all goes), I might one up in the meantime, as I have already added Arsenal Summoner while waiting for this thing to go live.

Cool. There's actually been some cool stuff in a thread in the suggestions forum trying to update the Brute and it's had some interesting ideas. Honestly I think if their heavy hands talent just gave them flurry of blows along with Improved Unarmed Strike and some nat armor he'd probably be in business. Hell if they wanted to get a little more technical I'd be down with a hp boost either in HD size or health buff.

Is Exposed Vigilante an archetype with public identity, like Flash III/Fantastic Four? Will it be stackable with Zealot?

I have seen some people trying to fix Brute, I'm wondering if I shoudl try my hand at it too for this project.

That is correct, it's the more relaxed and casual archetype. It actually only replaces dual identity and seamless disguise, so it'll stack with anything that doesn't replace those two abilities. Personally, it should probably stack with things which simply alter dual identity too, I might write a sidebar for that. It's also an archetype that can be gained or lost past 1st level depending on your situation.
